I was hit in the neck by a bird.

Third time this has happened in the past two years.

First and Second times, bird flies into the side of my helmet on neighborhood streets.

Third time, bird flies/is blown into me while I'm riding on an overpass in 40mph winds.

This I'm sure has happened to others but at this frequency?

Glad you're okay, it could cause some serious damage if it hit an unprotected part of you.

I've had a bird glance off my arm, but that's about it.

Happened to me once.  A large seagal about 20lb was pecking at something on the road when I approached it.  I figured that it would fly off in time and it honestly tried.  But was too greedy and didn't lift off in time.  I hit it with my faceshield while trying to duck under it.  The bird ended up in my lap knocked out.  It then came to and began thrashing and crapping - Did I mention that it was a large bird?  Well, it was full of crap too.  I needed lots of tissues after I finally stopped.
The seagal flew off, btw w/o any visible damage.
BUT better a bird than a deer.  You need twice as many tissues and some clean undies after a deer.

Every year. Just got thru ordering base plates for EXO-1000 helmet because of bird strike to the shield.

I put some deer whistles on my bike/car and really can't tell if it works for the deer..........

BUT....... They do work for birds.... really well........ probably won't help if bird's out of control though(blown).

Surprised you didn't end up in the ER, I caught a good sized beetle, or what looked liked a beetle at 90.. You'd have thought I got shot in the neck with a paintball gun. I almost fell off the bike.

try riding through a bee swarm. Not much fun.

I've taken a hit in the ankle and shoulder by a robin sized bird before. Both hurt like hell for a while, even with boots and a thick jacket. Both within the same month. Only times it's happened. All comes down to chance.

All near misses here, but the nearest was a large turkey taking flight from the side of the road.  Decided to drink Wild Turkey when I got home as a show of respect/revenge. :beer:

After several near misses I finally took a bird to the chest last year doing about 50 mph.  It hit hard and I saw it hit the asphalt behind the bike and start flapping around in a frenzy.  I felt terrible since all he was trying to do was hear the V4 sound a little better.

I've taken very large, juicy insects on the chest and shoulder. Those things splatter pretty far. I never ride without my jacket so I don't know what it feels like to get pegged on my body at speed.

The bird on the helmet didn't leave any marks or damage (25mph) but the bird in the neck hurt. The wind was about 40 that day and I was going roughly 70. My jacket has a low collar so it got me good. Wonder if I got bird flu.

Been hit several times over the years. Got knocked off a dirt bike when a hawk hit me back in the 70s.

Had a buddy catch a hawk with his wing couple years back.

I wasn't knocked off because the bird was more blown into me than flew into me, but it wasn't fun. I tried to duck (no pun intended) but I failed to evade the avian.

After riding down around the Wichita Wildlife Refuge in SW Oklahoma last fall on my ST1300, when I got home and started to clean up the bike I found a small bird wedged into the lower fairing below the headers.  It was sad but kinda comical how he was stuck in there inverted with just his little head poking out just a few inches above the road surface.  As we were riding along a deserted two lane with high buffalo grasses along the road side these small birds were constantly flying up at us as we startled them cruising by.

... maybe but what about one of these birds ... now that would hurt ... can't work out if this one is an emu or an ostrich ... either way they're strange lookin things and they'd def ruin your day if you hit one on your bike!

Another variation on the bizarre:  A couple of months ago, "some kinda *big* bug" flew in from seemingly nowhere and smacked me in the chin area of my helmet.  Quite a "thwack".  I figure, "oh well, happens".   Many seconds later...I suddenly see all this blurry commotion just below where my visor meets the helmet lip.  I know I'm seeing only part of what's going on, itermittently...and it doesn't seem good.  So I pull over quick and get slow enough to stick my helmet into my right mirror.  What the *HECK*...it's a big bad dragonfly, with his tail stuck in my chin vent, and boy is he mad, flippin' and flappin' and buzzin to beat all.  So by this time I'm stopped, I take my glove and as gently as possible I try to get him out of there with my left hand.  I don't really feel him through the glove, but suddenly he's freebird and hightailing it, flying a rather erratic course.
I ride home feeling great that I saved a bug.  Hey, I have Green Hornet logos laminated into my surfboard.

Happened to me once. It was hot and I had my visor opened up all the way and was wearing sunglasses to protect my eyes. A house martin, known to be an agile and aerobatic flyer, miscalculated a turn and flew right into my helmet. It's flapping wings obsured my vision for a brief moment but the bird was not hurt and managed to take off again. The bird was kind enough not to take a dump in my helmet and on my fasce during his short stay there.

Here in the mountain desert I catch more rocks than birds.  In fact, to date no birds.  Just rocks.   :dry:

I the past 3 years I've had 2 strick me ,1 in the chest and 1 on the shoulder. Those little birds that are so common here, I want to say finches but I don't think thats correct, hurt like a SOB when hit at anything above 60. had a larger bird glance the side of my helmit and 1 fly into the side of the bike.

So yes it is common.

Years ago my dad and I were riding through some really nice open sweepers near his house at a rather inflated pace and he took what we call a turkey vulcher (not sure if that's "official" or not) on the left shoulder as it tried to lift off from the roadkill it was picking at.  Busted the left mirror off his bike and dislocated his shoulder.  He managed to keep the bike vertical and made it home, pretty remarkable seeing it happen even moreso once i found out he was basically doing it one handed.

I could have used some tissues afterwards...and some new shorts.

To be fair to our avian friends, technically, you hit the bird, not the other way 'round... :tongue:
