FINALLY got the center stand re-installed on my 01 VFR... Mind you, this is one that I purchased from another member, not one that was originally on my bike.
I haven't installed the spring and the horse shoe shaped clip yet, but I see that when I rotate the stand up to the stored position, it hits the chain! Something tells me that this is bad... :-)
Is there something that the PO of my bike may have removed? Some sort of stop or something? I've got the bike up on the center stand now. It is properly installed. But obviously I won't be riding it until I get this issue resolved.
Thanks!
There should be a stopped on the right which stops the stand from going further up...well atleast on the 98, there is one on the Baffle.
As Anik indicated there should be a rubber pad on the bottom of the muffler that stops the center stand at a certain point.

As I sit here at work and think about what you're saying, a light is coming on! To get the center stand on, I removed the muffler and the pipe to it from the cat, and I think there was a rubber bumper on there! Since I haven't put it all back together yet, I'll have to check that out when I get home.
I hope you're right, but I'll bet thats it!
Will post pics tonight.
Or your chain is loose? But if the muffler is missing, yeah that's a big problem...
If the chain is really loose or worn and the bike is on both wheels (not on the c-stand), the c-stand may touch the chain without a rider on it. Sit on the bike and it will pull the chain up to clear the c-stand. Still, the chain needs some attention in this situation, assuming you put the pipe and bump pad back on and it's still touching the chain.
Duh... That was it. There's a bumper on the pipe.
Damn. There's no appropriate smilie for how stupid I feel... Oh well.
