Hi everybody this is my first post here on VFRD . I recently snagged a 5th Gen 2001 VFR 800 with only 1400 (yes that's a one, four, zero, zero) miles on it from the original owner. :bliss: He had only put 80 miles on it since 2008. The guy is a true gearhead and was VERY meticulous about how he cared for this bike. It had 4 oil changes during the 1400 miles it had been ridden. I am curious to see what anyone else would have paid for this nearly showroom new bike. He even included 2 color-matched Shoei Helmets in the deal.
Let me just say I feel like I found a time capsule on wheels and am very pleased with the whole deal.

Hey, another Asheville guy! Welcome! I'm just down the road in Hendersonville. Great to have another local, we don't hve enough VFR's around here. A bike is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, but that being said, I'm sure there are plenty of people willing to give somewhere in the area of $6k-$7500 for a bike like that.
I picked up my extremely-clean '98 in February last year from the original owner with just 6.2k miles on the odo for $4k. Also received a few farkles in the deal including a high-mount TBR exhaust, Dow motorcycle cover, Yuasa battery charger/maintainer, etc..
I haven't regretted the purchase although since then I've read where others have scored a few showroom-condition 5th-generations with even lower miles for less $$. Still, it's hard to believe there could be very many more spotless, low-mileage, 5th-generations hidden in garages across the country.

1400 miles? Holy ...... - -If I really wanted it, I might go ~ $4200 --- I have bought quite a few cars/bikes with extreem low miles. I am usually kinda paranoid to put to many miles on it and take the depreciation. In near every case I end up riding or driving it for a minimum amount of miles, and then selling it for just a bit more than I bought it.
I bought my '97 in '02 with less than 2k on her, similar to your find. I got a tank bag, saddle bags, a cover, and some other small extras for $5600 and have never regreted it. My engine is still hot from a ride today - just an R/R replacement in TEN YEARS of ownership as of next month!

Those numbers might be a tad high. I think 5k would be the absolute most Id go. As time goes on, less and less minty examples are gonna be on the road. I might pay more for a minty 01 in 2012, than I would in 2008. I bought mine with 18k on it for $4000 .It was showroom when I bought it, and it still is now.
For me I would pay 10 percent more than high book tops. Mainly because I don't want a Gen 5 THAT bad. Still, there are those where that is the one and only bike for them and the cost becomes less of an issue.
I normally own a stable of motorcyles, anywhere from 3-7 at a time, so for me I consider the cost since I am planning to continue adding motorcycles to my collection.
You could flip it and use the profit to pay cash for a clean one with higher miles. That means a free motorcycle for you.

Yeah, that is high. But that doesn't mean somebody won't pay that. He was asking what it could be worth, not what a bunch of cheapskate VFR owners would offer for it. I'm in the business of buying and selling bikes and cars, and I would definitely price that bike at $7k, and I guarantee I would get $6k too.

Maybe, but what you didn't say was what you would have bought the bike for. My guess, 4-5k. Dealerships can always get a bit more for bikes due to financing and some type of warranty. I don't see a private party getting anywhere near 6k, but anything is possible
I, just last week, bought a clean 01 with 14,500 miles on her. She had some farkles, unrestricted power commander, holeshot can, lobster's mirror extenders, peg lowering blocks, European style front signals, Tom Tom 2 gps and a great ram mount, battery tender, arai helmet with 2 Cardo Bluetooth units, really nice Firstgear heavy leather armored jacket ( and liner ) , Joe Rocket mesh armored jacket, upgraded reg/rec, an a Lockhart Phillips tank bra. Also has fresh oil and PR 2 s in/on her. I felt I got a smoking deal for $2750. I looked for quite some time for a reasonably priced, clean 5 th generation, only to give up and buy an 09 Triumph Sprint ST 1050. ( think VCR on steroids ) This one falls in my lap, and now I have two great bikes. My 18 year old son isn't ashamed to be seen on either one. The V 4 sound is still the sweetest, though. I paid $2800 for a very clean 98 with 27k miles on it 2 years ago. It had TB high mount and touring wind screen. Since then added sargent seat, heated grips and Givi bags. Just a few days ago had a collision with a minivan that was out of my control. After putting another 23k miles on it, the insuance company gave me $3650 for the bike and $2000 for my farkles. Made out fine, but big problem is finding a replacent. So far I only have one to choose from without going on a long road trip! It's an 01 with 25k on it for $4600 asking price. It is very clean with a few farkles. I got him down some but I'm still trying for more. Planning on going to look a 6th gen today. an 07 RWB, I've always loved them since they came out! But so hard to part from the gear drive!

Glad you're ok Bob..................good luck in your search for another VFR. $5,650 might get you two VFR's if you're patient!
OK... I will let the cat out of the bag now. I found this awesome, pristine specimen of 5th gen VFR while searching Craig's list. I was able to grab it for $4600 even and I have another $500 tied up in shipping. It will probably be at the house within the week but it really wont matter since I'm working out of the country (Southern Iraq) and wont be able to ride it for some time to come. I hope my wife will enjoy seeing it everyday. Now all I have to do is figure out how to divide my time at home between my wife, kids and the new Lady-In-Red living in he garage. :tour:
