Feed back from shifter

When shifting from 1st to 2nd I feel a little kick back as the bike goes into gear. Anyone else get that? I'm using mobile 1 bike oil btw.

I used to have that issue but it went away after changing my oil a bit ago

Wear a sturdier boot, I bet it goes away. :smile:

Mobil 1 15w-50 is showing back up in various Walmart stores.  It always slicks up my shifting.

Take the shifter pedal off and remount it 0ne more click down.

I bled the clutch but never checked to see if it had full travel. Bike as 17,000. It just feels like the shifter is pushing down as I "snick" it into gear. I'm wearing Sidi boots. No problems going into the higher gears.

there seems to be two versions of a consensus on this topic:

1- various transmissions like particular oil

2-Sunstar Shift Kit.

I used to have a problem going from 5th to 6th, but after some oil changes and getting into the habbit of shifting like I meant it, and I never notice it now.

Agreed.  The VFR wants a very positive shift to second.  A slow shift will result in a kickback.

Having owned a lot of Hondas, the 1-2 shift has always been a little "sticky" for me.

I make it a point to "pre-load" the shifter, then just complete the shift when I pull in the clutch.
Works for me.

When i first got the VFR I was dealing with this every few shifts, thinking that something might be wrong or worn in there. Lot of first to second shifts ending up in neutral. After a while, I adjusted my shifting technique a bit.. and it became super smooth with barely a click every single time.

Works for me.
Plus one .... on preload ......... and the same goes for the clutch, and all gears, and they'll all just slip right in without jamming them. the less clutch the better as well........more time spent with the clutch in, the more time the motor/gears/drive train have to get out of sync................
