As mentioned in a previous thread, VF1000RS and I have collaborated to create a replica of the Winning Run speedometer brackets. He has used these on his bikes to replace the front wheel-driven factory speedometer drive by relocating the drive to the countershaft sprocket area.

The brackets replace the countershaft cover and also serve as a mounting location for a VFR750/RC30 speedometer drive which is driven by the countershaft sprocket mounting bolt, as on newer VFRs.

This is a very neat set of parts to have for a few very good reasons:

1. This bracket set allows an owner to retain the functionality of the oem speedometer when the front drive unit is not used with a new fork set.

2. The oem drive cable mount is easily broken when removing/installing the mounting bolt that attaches it to the front drive, especially when aged. This occurs during wheel removal when changing tires or performing fork maintenance. Installing this bracket set greatly reduces the need to replace the drive cable.

3. They look damn cool!

We are to the point where we need to generate interest to go ahead with the first production run. The first run will be 6 sets, 3 of these sets are already spoken for and 3 are available, which brings me to the point of this thread...

We need interested parties to commit to purchasing the remaining 3 sets so we can go ahead with the first run. The parts will be blanked by a shop I use, and I will be cleaning them up and making the necessary spacers and bushings needed.

Each kit will consist of the bracket parts, all necessary hardware and spacers, and mounting instructions. The speedo drive and speedo cable will not be provided, however, part numbers will be provided for these items.

This is exactly what Winning Run was providing, and it costs about $250 to source their kit from Japan.

The 3 kits currently being offered will be sold for $135/ea, USPS Priority Mail in the lower 48 of the USA is included. I will ship anywhere at buyer's expense.

Please post here if you are interested in committing to a purchase of 1 or more bracket sets.

*These parts may also fit the VF700F/VF750F, I will know for sure once I get the parts in hand again and trial fit them on my bike.

Sold, put me down for one.

Will the R cable not reach to the countershaft location? (probably not I suspect) Without looking it up, what's the ballpark price of the 750 cable and drive? (I may have a 750 drive in the part bin, got to check...)

Either way, count me in, need one for a 1KR.

For the time being, I will defer questions regarding the drive and cable to Tom.

And thanks for being #1.

Damn!!!  That does look nice and functional!!!  SEB and VF1000RS collaborating on part creation?  Genius!!!

Next up,  how about a kit for VF1000RS exhaust on his 1000R!

Sold! You can sign me up, but also a question - I assume this provides mounting for the clutch slave cylinder and also allows clearance for a 'spaced out' counter shaft sprocket?  what is the largest clearance, 9mm?
Thanks guys!

Ooh! That's a good question!

Tom is running 5.5" rear wheels on both his F and R, so I assume it will work. If for some reason it doesn't, I know how I can modify the parts to make it work.

I guess it will depend on the sprocket itself. I have the same question but I suspect it will work with this type setup?

Hi guys. Seb has done quite a bit(all) of the leg work on these which is essential to actually getting the parts produced. I'll try and answer some of the questions raised.

As far as the VFR750 speedo cable I am not 100% sure although I am fairly certain it will work as it is used for a stock speedo pickup at the countershaft.

A VF1000R or VF1000F speedo cable being used they are just not long enough or have the correct end to run from a countershaft pickup.

I have had custom cables made up by Motion Pro for my bikes and I will post the number when I get home sometime this weekend. I'll also post the part number for the speedo pickup from the RC30 I have used or if anyone has access to online fiche feel free. I am limited to posting with my phone at the moment and it's a little of a PITA to look it up at the moment(I know, first world problems, right? : ) ).

As far as what countershaft sprocket will work, the stock sprocket of course and I have been using the offset sprockets from Krueger Junginger(sp?). I have a 5mm offset on my VF1000F and I think a 7mm offset on the Mutant.
Again, I'll check when I get home, but I think you may be able to get a 9mm offset sprocket in there and still have clearance.

What makes these offset sprockets work with this bracket setup is the fact that the center of the countershaft sprocket is the same thickness as a stock countershaft sprocket. A great example of this can be seen in VFRCAPN'S picture above.
As you can see the center around the countershaft sprocket bolt is still only as thick as stock, whereas the outside/teeth area(the offset) is what has been moved away from the engine.

Any other configuration will require modifications of some type.

Hope that helps any questions. Please post any/all questions and will try to answer all.

Thanks for posting up Tom.

Looks like we need to cross reference the RC30 and VFR speedo drive part numbers and see if they match. Someone like JZH might know off the top of their head... Paging jezzah... :-)

Here they are, I think. The drive numbers look to be the same, the cables are different. Prices are from Dillon Brothers, powersportspro.com, 22% off these prices this weekend.

1990-93 VFR750
44800-MR7-003  BOX ASSY., SPEEDOMETER GEAR  $75.73
44830-MR7-000  CABLE ASSY., SPEEDOMETER $22.67 (RC30)
44830-KR5-P00  CABLE ASSY., SPEEDOMETER $13.14

I've put an offset sprocket on a CB that was significantly dished so the retaining bolt was inset below the teeth. I think the Kruger sprockets will work, I'll be using the 9mm.

Thanks to both of you for pulling this together. :fing02:

Another thought, is the F3 wheel a possible replacement to the F2? Question for those more familiar with the dimensional differences between the two.

Might be better off capturing this in another thread, but are you talking front or rear? Fronts are dimensionally the same, rotor config is different (solid vs floating). Rears are the same, except the F2 = 4.5" wide, F3 = 5.0" wide. (160 vs 170)

Was thinking of the front and swapping out to the F3 with floating rotors. Specifically with the wheel spacers, rotor offset, etc.?

I'll start a new thread when I get in to this but my assumption is that this upgrade is to facilitate the mounting of the newer F3/VFR750 front wheel (or some mutant UPD front end). No point in mounting the old F2/1KR wheel with speedo drive. Just thinking a few steps ahead....

Has my bracket shipped yet?

Nice work guys! Should help some folks who like a speedo.

With any real miles ridden, how gummed up does that area get? When ever I take off that cover, it's coated with gunk from the chain mixed with fine gravel. Seems like it would be all over the shifter, speedo drive, etc. That's the dirtiest part of the whole drive line.  No?
#15
Kel, are you running without a speedo right now?
#16
I haven't had a speedo since 1986 and that's no joke.

I generally go as fast as I like and can tell by feel and rpm roughly how fast I'm going if a policeman is kind enough to follow me.

I know most aren't comfortable with out a speedo so this is a good alternative to a speed pickup on the wheel or having to adapt the stock cover to accept the drive.

A little late but here is the Motion Pro cable part number: 02-0126

This is 8" longer than the cable I based it off, a 1994-1995 CB1000F(Big One) cable(Honda part number: 44830-MZ1-000 in case Motion Pro doesn't have it for some reason)

Just to be clear, the CB1000F cable is too short.

VFRCAPN have the right number for the speedo pickup: 44800-MR7-003

I'll post up some pictures a little later.

Some pics of the original brackets so you can see cable routing using the Motion Pro cable, etc.

Depends on what chain lube and how much I guess.

The pics of the F above has a few hundred miles on a clean/lube and the R doesn`t really have many since i recently changed it over to this bracket setup.

Nice looking mod for sure.  Very cool that you are fabricating these.

If I could ask, is there a potential issue with the heat in the kitchen?  The speedo cable looks a bit close to the cylinder head.

Shouldn't be an issue but I can look into providing a foot or so of insulating sleeving with the kits.

We need just one more person so we can start collecting $$ and ordering parts...

Who will be the last lucky VF'r?

I have had absolutely zero heat issue with the cable there. There is approximately 1/2" or more between the head and the cable.

My CB1100F has a similar speedometer bracket and cable. That cable goes up between carbs 1 and 2. It touches the head and has been on there for quite a few miles without issue.

Sorry to address this so late. I read this awhile back and thought I had replied.

I'd really to get one more person involved here... But if we hit the end of the week without more interest, I think I can get these going anyway. Don't want to keep the rest of you waiting too much longer.
