retrofiting a CBR steering dampener

these CBR1000 OEM dampeners are cheap as chips on fleabay, anyone try and work one onto our 5th gens? I am not familiar with the CBR1000 they come from so no idea how they are attached

I dunno, but most VFR owners do not feel the need for steering dampers on a bike that has a very tame front end geometry....
I think steering dampers on a VFR will more likely be just dead, useless weight on the bike at most.....
Save your money and put it towards improvements on the shock and fork instead....

The damper you showed is an electronic unit controlled by the bike's ecu - it will not work very well if at all on a different bike.

Sebspeed is correct. No ecu signal, no function.

I have a Scott's dampener. I use it on the highway to help stiffen up the steering.

Steering damper will help in case of troubles. To me it happened to have a failure of the front tire valve. I was running with 140 km/h and experienced a sudden & heavy handlebar shake/tank slapper. Luckily I paid attention on Keith Code book & movie & I didn't fight it. I've raised myself on the feet, slowly reduced the speed by engine (I did not dare to touch the brakes to load more the front) and only lightly tried to give a general direction to the side of the road. The shake stopped only when the bike stopped. Took me few minutes to calm myself & to realize how lucky I was not to crash - the front tire was almost out of air/pressure. With a steering damper probably the shake would have been less violent and the bike more easy to control.
I intent to get myself one as well in the future but they are so expensive for VFRs.
