This is a slither PSA for 5th gens (and three hard bags if that makes a difference):

Cruising above 100 mph for an entire tank may result in the engine being rather thirsty, and drinking 5.1 gallons in 131 miles(~25 mpg).  Nothing like seeing the blinking bar when you are unknown miles away from seeing so much as a building, much less a gas station.

...

Or so my friend says.  :goofy:

Lowest MPG I've seen road riding is upper 20s. Track days are typically in that range.

The rider may have flirted on-and-off with 135 on a new sexy wide-open, underutilized road here in TX.

It was an out-and-back trip, and the run back had some vicious wind as well.  Wide open country, no hills to speak of to block the wind.

I think I'd mark the throttle and handlebar with small paint lines to indicate 0%/25%/50%/75%100% throttle positions to find out just how close to WFO it takes to run that fast.  Heard that from an avid off-roader who spent a lot of time in sandy areas, and as a result consumed a lot more fuel than he should have based on the odo.  That helped him keep track of engine load rather than just miles.

Running WFO makes your fuel disappear fast. When Honda did their 24 hour world speed record using the 1986 VFR750, they had to pit in less than 30 mins or run out of fuel.

where is the rest of the article?  only 3 pages with a cliff hanger..

Oh sorry, I don't know. Maybe someone else can find the whole thing. I just posted the first link I came across.
