Pretty sure it's a prop to hold the fuel tank up when changing air filter.

You are right about the spanner/ext bar combo recommended for a tank prop.  Mmmmm...may have to think about one

I've had my 5th gen since new and it's never had anything like that supplied by Honda.  My guess is that it was placed there by a previous owner for a purpose known only to him.   Maybe he didn't have, or had lost the spanner for holding the tank up and used that instead - or who knows what.

previous owner prolly put it in there.  I use a 2x4, but I dont keep it under my seat.

That center plastic hook molded in to the undertray is for the large rubber holder to secure the toolkit/owners manual, not for that bar.

I never got one of those with my bike. Seems handy for a prop rod though.

My rubber band for holding the toolkit broke, so I went out and bought a beefy Viton O-ring the right length and used that. Just couldn't kill it.
