10 Days Mid July Il To Ar

First, I'm new to VFRD. have been riding a 2000 Honda Shadow for 13 years and just joined the viffer club.

now for the trip. Leaving mid July from Chicagoland suburbs. I (we?) have 10 days max. The goal is to explore some good Arkansas motorbike roads. My old college roommate and I have done a summer trip together since 2001. He might have to bail on me this year. I am a low budget trip planner. I plan the destination, pack all my food, and camp when I get tired. Two items:

1. Anyone interested?
2. Any suggestions on good roads or nice camping spots.

WELCOME  but  if  you were  coming  to East Tennessee  or  Western  North  Carolina  I  would  have  alot  of  suggestions.

As far as your route to get to AR, that's for someone else to help you with.  When you have firm dates, let me know and we can arrage a meet up, and I will show you the best roads I know...maybe member Gloryracing will help too.  Bring some mesh gear because it wil be hot and humid most likely...If you want to explore by yourself, there are the well-known routes like AR 7, AR 23, and AR 21.  We do have secret roads that are our favorites... :wink:

The Harrison area is fantastic.  Gloryracing says it best, "Pull out of the hotel, turn left and You're In It."

Literally, he's right.  The northwest quadrant of the state is wonderful.  Southern Missouri around Branson and Table Rock isn't too bad either.

Yokel, read through your trip reports. Really detailed. I'll attempt to do them justice and write one of my own after my trip. I highlighted all of your recommendations in my map and now I understand what you mean by Gloryracing's quote. Researched the HUB. Sounds like a really nice spot and the owners seem like great people. How busy is their camping mid July? I am more of a drop in kind of guy, I usually don't make reservations. I prefer to bounce around and not be tied down to specific dates.

FYI... camping at the HUB is only $10 bucks a night and you get access to a motel room to change and shower in (shared by all campers).

I think the other campground is about $16 per night tent camping without electric.  You do get access to showers and the bonus is a pool!

Also, just so you aren't surprised, camping at the HUB isn't normal camping.  Your site is not private in the least.  It's just a big grassy area next to the motel that is more like a group campsite.  There is usually a big fire at night to sit around and swap lies!  Bonus is an onsite restaurant that serves 3 meals a day...
