So I did around 300 miles on Sunday, and I had noticed before a few times that the FI light faintly blinks in time with the turn signals...and on Sunday it would come on full force anytime I grabbed the front brake lever. What gives?
Fi Light Blinks With Turn Signal...
forum suggests its a bad ground issue, specifically with the orange ground connection found in the wiring harness close to where the battery resides.
my temporary fix was to cut it free of the harness tape, take top cap off, clean and grease connections, and finaly spread out all the green wires and get them as close to the cowl vent as possible.
seems to worked for now.
I'll second KC5555's advise. My brother just had the same issue with his '99 and the connector was half melted. Jimmy rigged up a new ground for everything and problem gone. If you do a forum search you will see some pretty crispy pictures.
Good luck
Hey tailgunn,
Did you ever get the problem solved?
I totally forgot I even posted this, actually. I will have a look at it tonight possibly.
On an unrelated note, went to a bike night at the Ducati/Guzzi/KtM shop in St. Louis the other night, and there were some sweet rides...but nothing I would give up the 5th gen for...although the Aprilia RSV4 with motogp style exhaust cause some drooling when it pulled up. My GF killed that though when she pointed out the passenger seat. Big as a half of a kleenex.
I wish I knew about the bike night... I could of road over and hung out!
Never too many 5th gens at one location!!!!
Is this at idle or also when running 4000rpm?
As at idle the stator doesn't produce full power, as such the lights can blink faintly.
I have seen it on many bikes.
However, it should not happen at higher rpm then idle.
