I think this is an answer to a question nobody asked.
Instant adventure bike adv tire on a duc 1199
A nice dirt bike for the price of those Italian super duper fairings....
Is all.
That's cool, I like it. That color alone adds 10% more off-road capability ;-)
That rider has good skill too.
That is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
Just because you CAN do it, doesn't mean you SHOULD do it.
I've seen you riding your VFR knee-deep in a creek. Just sayin'.
I just watched the video with my 19mo old son & the while time he's saying dada & making vroom noises!!! :)) While I think it looks really cool it's not something I'd do to my vfr
We did something close to it in Carskillz 2 years ago. Street tires and all.
I'm open to new experiences as long as it doesn't cost me a fortune if/when things go wrong :491:

Having never ridden on dirt the gravel we experienced this year was more than enough for me on street tires
& yes, I agree on the adventure part ;)

There's just no way. Can you imagine a bunch of Honda CR's and Yamaha YZ's just eatin your friggin lunch.
Anybody try these on a VFR yet? Im thinking of getting a set ready to go just so I can shut up the GS contingent on the next adventure ride they decide to plan over flooded and washed out roads.
Take a min and watch the video, it looks like a surprising amount of fun for a superbike on dirt.

Saw this in AntiHero's new RR on ADV. Like it a lot, but useless beyond fire roads -- no suspension travel and no ground clearance.
Had a while where I was thinking of throwing TKC80's on the 7th gen (yes, they make the right sizes) and heading up to Alaska. Scrapped it based on the reasons above.
i dunno, local motor-cop riding buddies get their big pig BMW RTs into the hills pretty regularly for accidents and drug busts, and they are the same height and far more weight than a VFR, not to mention on regular street tires.
Limited travel and clearance to be sure but not much less than my old low pipe CR (god rest its zombie bones)
I just really want to pass this one particular guy with a 1200 gs in a hail of rocks, sand, and gear driven fury!
Its a friendly thing i assure you

But they did do it, and they ended up having a blast and bragging rights. One of those things that you do once just to do it.
Would you peel an Apple with a Samurai sword?

I'd take better care of that Panigale.
CF frame off-road???
Ohlins Superbike suspension off-road?
May as well run a 458 Italia in the Baja 1000.
I generally like to use the right tool for the job at hand...other folks like the fact that they can make one tool do many jobs. Each to his own...
This MIGHT make sense for the Dalton Highway if you're headed to Alaska, but sport bikes on trails? I think not.
I like the way it looks. Maybe I am just twisted that way.

LOL Buss-ted.
A few years ago I did the Alaska run from Chicago. The off road portion from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay was fun for about 2 hours and then reality sets in; I was putting a square peg in a round hole. It was fine but would have been significantly more enjoyable on a KLR 650 or something like that.
The Ducati in the woods idea was entertaining, but I would be nervous to bang into a tree or wreck the plastics or something like that, and the day would not have been nearly as fun as riding a 125 enduro that has only 80 moving parts, that I could straighten by hand once they got bent (And lets face it, something would get bent during a day of fun).
Yeah, who needs knobbies for travelling off road: R1 Sjaak :biggrin:That is the dumbest thing I've ever seen.
Somewhere between the full blown knobbies and a street tire with good blacktop adhesion ..there must be a tire for the VFR that allows good handling over long stretches of gravel ..as in what one regularly finds on trips to Dawson YT and beyond. I know for sure that Mich. Road 2's are not good on loose gravel..as proven by the brown streaks in my shorts from riding over a hundred miles or so of various road resurfacing projects on the Alcan (BC97) and Yukons Klondike hiway June.2014.
Any (tire choice) suggestions from the mob ??
I have no experience with them, but the PR4 Trails may be worth a view. Heck, it has "Trail" right there in the title! The PR4 street is pretty nice, maybe this one is too?
From how crazy fast my friends with GS1200s seem to go Id say the big knob contis seem to work well. Dunlop had that semi tread tire that came on the buell Ulysses for a while but I don't know if you can still get them. My hawk gt is being seriously considered for some knobish tires when I finish the rebuild. The roads around here aren't getting any better, mulholand is starting to feel like a gravel rally stage.
The conti tkc80s are the best of the semi knobby big dual sport tires.
All of the other dual sport tires, scorpion, tourance, anakee, road trail, with the wider than normal grooves or whatever are better than sport touring tires but don't compare to the tkc's on gravel, dirt, etc.
The tkc's are a better on road than the others are off.
But if you have a small bike, a real knobby works better, but then you're not trying to muscle 500+ pounds around.
p.s. I'll ride your panigale like that, but not mine. And that was slow for an XR650R.
I can see why someone would put Contis TCK80´s on a Crossrunner (I would try them), but why a real sport bike........Well someone did ride a R1 thro Sahara desert so...... :wheel:
Well, you do have to consider that this was done by a Ducati shop, and no ink is bad ink, so they get their name out there and word of mouth is always to good thing.
To my mind longer bars for better control are as important as different tires. Trying to keep the front end going where you want it when the going gets really rutted could be a real trick with semi-clipons.
