Are there any inexpensive Honda parts bin rearsets that will fit a 6th gen lower engine cushion? I.e. CBR 929/954/1000 RC51 etc.
I'm trying to build a 5th gen track bike and I'm considering a 6th gen cushion to allow me some options with the rear sets. I want to go 1 up, 5 down on the shift pattern.
No Honda ones I'm aware of but I may be able to get you some made by a German mob which are on longer in production. Real nice. I have a set installed on my 6th gen. Thurn I think is the brand.
My guess is 61mm.
I measured 69mm top to bottom, bolt is 8mm, 4mm off the top, 4mm off the bottom to find the centers.
Seb told me he hadn't found any that bolt on. RC51 is like 82-83. Trace measured for me, but I forget what he said.
I'm pretty sure 929-954 are the same.
Either stock 6g, or make some kind of adapter, i.e. what BR did, or drill and tap a hole in the stock 5g for a linkage.

I've asked Kayla at Projection Components if she'd be interested in making some adaptor plates, I think the CBR600F4i rearset will work (same brake m/c mounts, has a gear shift linkage)

Please confirm bolt spacing on this! Anyone have an F4i sitting around? Different rear sets was half the reason I did the 6 gen mod. I was just looking at some F4i pics and even if the bolt spacing is correct the geometry of the pedals might be out. On the 6 gen the rear set mounting bolts are straight up vertical. On the F4i the top bolt is angled behind the lower mounting bolt. As such if they did fit, the rear set would be rotated forward and put the brake and shift levers lower in relation to where they are now. One might be able to adjust the levers to bring them back up, the question would be if there is enough adjustment available, particularly on the brake M/C side of the equation.

I don't think the F4i's bolt on, I'm talking about adapter plates so you can use other rearsets. VFR one side, whatever you want (CBR600F4i in this case) on the other.
These are designed to move the standard pegs up & back, but there's no reason you couldn't move the holes closer for less spacing/rise, then adapt them to whatever rearset you would like to use.
The F4i rearsets look like they should work with the other VFR (6th gen) hardware, but with enough time & effort, you make pretty much anything work.
Edit: Read the rest of your post, I haven't had a good look at the VFR rear MC, but the clevis should be adjustable for brake lever height.

You can't simply find a set with the same bolt spacing and bolt them on. Inevitably, the peg will be in the wrong position, as the set will have come from a frame with a different mounting angle, or the triangulation of the set mount holes and peg position will be off.

Good point... my goal is to switch to a GP shift pattern (1 up, 5 down) for a 5th gen track bike at minimum cost... any suggestions would be appreciated :)
Same here. I was looking at the new 800 and it is suppose to have a quick shifter option which I would "think" would be a moto gp pattern.................I may wait until the parts are out for that and just buy the new parts for the left rear set and go that route if it works out. I believe I saw something in the new 800 pics that looked like a different set up from the stock 6 gen stuff which is what it has normally.

Not sure if you mean me or the OP, but my goal is to avoid spending $600 on Sato rearsets for my trackbike :goofy:
F4i peg mounts are around 15 off vertical (tilted back) vs VFRs basically straight up & down - with adjustable rearsets you should be able to get pretty close to stock, or really high & back if you want. You could even add in the angle to the spacer to keep the original F4i peg geometry...
Like I said, it's just a theory at this point, but the F4i uses the same rear m/c, so that will bolt up & most rear sets for it have the lever swivelling around the peg & a linkage for the gear selection, which will also open up race shift if you want it.
If the spacers aren't too expensive, I'll order a set & a cheap set of Dan Moto rearsets to experiment with.

It is not the same spacing. I just recently tried fitting this 929RR Sato rearset to my VTEC. It is close, but it will not bolt on.
If the spacers aren't too expensive, I'll order a set & a cheap set of Dan Moto rearsets to experiment with.
This is your best bet - buy the rearset kit at the best price you can find (or you are comfortable with) and fit them to your bike with custom adapters.

I kinda glossed over the obvious when I initially read this. Several of the people interested in this mod are building track bikes. I think the obvious answer was overlooked and perhaps those building track bikes need the CBR part instead of the VFR! Plentiful CBR rearsets out there with reversible linkages, OEM and aftermarket.
Looks like I'm the guinea pig on this one. I'll let y'all know in 7-10 days... :rolleyes:

Outside of GP shift, no. More weight and more slop. Direct attachment gives more positive feel.

More adjustbility on where the shift lever is, other than that...
The 2014/15 VFR800 rearsets will do the trick, all you have to do is find them.

I thought I had seen a picture! Thanks BR. I think I will wait and get OE parts. If my spacial reasoning is accurate, they are keeping the same shift pattern with the "quick shifter" though. Easy enough to switch.
I mentioned that I was getting a CBR954 rear cushion to try out as a track bike or no center stand option, but it just occurred to me that the pivot bolt may be a larger diameter. I have no idea yet, but I did ask one seller who has one. I hope not, cause I already sprung for the cushion. :unsure:
If the rearsets aren't a direct bolt on, then knowing the triangulation of the footpeg isn't really important. If you are going to use ones that don't bolt up directly with an adapter plate, you can adjust the footpeg triangulation some with the adapter plate, no?
Well if you're going to do that, then what the heck does it matter if the spacing is right for the frame???
For me the point is to find a Honda (or other) bike to reference for sourcing aftermarket rear sets that will bolt to the stock 6G cushion and allow for adjustable footpeg mounting.
Therefore the triangulation of the footpeg in relation to the two mounting holes is moot as I will be moving the pegs to suit me anyway.
Also, Ouch Baby! Very Ouch!. lol
You can be a stickler for reproducing stock numbers and still be searching for the perfect set of USD fork triples with the exact offset of the VFR three years later. Some compromise is inenevitable. Maybe the end result is better for it. But this is just a jumping off point. Besides, if a popular sport bike has the same bolt pattern that means plenty of aftermarket support, and likely adjustable mounts anyway.
The idea isn't foreign to me. I have a set of aftermarket CBR900RR rearsets on my 4th gen.

I finally got an answer after asking 4 different ebay sellers about the CBR Pivot bolt. It is the same 25mm diameter as the VFR. It's a different part# than the 6G, but looks to be a similar design. It may be more compatible with 5G swingarm, as the nut looks shorter. Like the cut down version that yycviffer did, perhaps.
I expect my CBR cushion to arrive by Saturday, and I'll try bolting it up then. That should give those building track bikes, or simply don't want a center stand, a larger choice of rearsets from 929-954. Adjustability, reverse pattern, different look, etc.

I got the idea from Mohawk. He was saying he thought the 6G and CBR were the same, apart from c-stand. They do have different rearset bolt spacing, but that gave me the idea to try the CBR cushion on the VFR. I'll be trying it on my 5G.
I didn't think to measure both sides of the VFR cushion for spacing. I measured the right side only and got 69mm top to bottom and subtracted 8mm for the two radii. (8mm diameter bolt, 4mm off the top and 4mm off the bottom for the center)
I spent some time on parts fiche and the only thing I could come up with in the different part# between 929 and 954 is color.

Waaaay too skinny at the mounting points to fit onto the back of the VFR engine. Not even close. Sorry Mohawk, not only are the rearset mounts not the same, the cushion won't fit at all.
Looks like the 5-6 are interchangeable only, and not a lot of aftermarket support for rearsets on the 6G. Shoot, I was really hoping for that one. Mostly to recoup the $40 I spent on it... :angry:

Apologies for the duff info. I know some people have put 6th gen swing arms on 929's & others have put 929 swingarms on 5/6th gens ! Thus I assumed they must be a close fit.
Of all the stuff the Chinese copy but not rear set's ?
I am checking on Chinese knock-offs of the Sato right now. I am trying to make my 6th Gen a better track bike. The stock footrests touch down way too easily and gave me a few rude shocks while I was in full lean. :wacko:
Let us know what you find, I'd be interested. My Danmoto CBR600 F4i rearsets turned up yesterday, looks like they can be made to work on the VFR with a little effort.
Ironically, it looks like they will bolt straight on to my TRX :491:
I hear that. I mainly did it for the installation of the quick shifter, but it is nice not having to worry about the pegs touching down and GP shift is just tits.

No, they definitely do not fit the VFR, I had adaptor plates made to make them work. Gear linkage will work & the brake MC bolts straight on, so it's a pretty easy thing to make fit though.
that plate didn't look difficult to make though. but hey. it's better value than a 500 dollar sato set. as nice as they are.... lol

If you are looking to facilitate the addition of the quickshifter on your bike, I am putting my bike under the knife maybe next weekend when I take delivery of my RBR Quickshift setup later on this coming week. Ill let you folks know how that goes in a seperate thread. In short, I am tapping the gear lever, and tapping either the frame, or the sprocket cover to facilitate a similar linear linkage to engage the speedshift with the lever, as if it Had linkage.
that illustrates the General gist of what's in store for me. Not too tough. Some patience a ruler, a cordless drill and the patience to tune the engagement point.
