Hi Gang,
Im a huge fan of what Apex Andy did with his bike, and am using that as inspiration in some ways.
Ive been racking his brains at times, and he has been great with his feedback and advice.
A good friend of mine is doing most/all of the work (he builds bikes and was really keen to help me out)...
The first thing I wanted was to expose the swingarm completely.
So, I got this Jardine pipe off a mate who owns a bike-wreckers and that's where we began.
I would really love a header system like some of the other guys have - but they dont seem to be readily available for this model.
Anyway.
Now I know how to download photos ( :goofy: ) I wanted to share this update with you.
We have a long way to go I know, but the rear end is the main focus at this stage.
Cheers - and thanks again to Andy.

That is a good start, tucked up tight...keep posting pics as you go and welcome aboard!
Thanks - my mate doing the work lives a couple of hours away, so I need to get up the coast to see him about the next move in regards to styling for the tail-light, indicators and the dreaded number plate...... and some ideas he has about a few things for the rear-end.
WHY DO WE EVEN NEED PLATES ANYWAY !!! lol
Welcome to the site and keep posting up the pics. The chosen exhaust looks really good and the location is excellent. Nice Work. Not sure what else you have planned for the rear end of the bike but I'm sure that between you and a few others there will be a solution for the license plate.
Having met Apex in person and seen his bike in real life, I can honestly say that it looks even better in person than it shows in the pictures. Apex is a great guy to talk with and a great guy to ride with as well.
All the best with your project and have fun.
Well, Im an Aussie - so a ride with Andy wont be taking unless I take off abroad to Canuck'Land (which is on the bucket list, mind you)
Thanks.
Im not sure whats next with the rear end, until I see it in the flesh - crack a few beers with my mate, and mull it over.
I really like the bare'bones look of Andy's before it was finished.
I'm not sure how Andy fabbed the tail light/turn signal in to his rear cowl, but the LED strip he did was really cool. He also made up a really cool bracket to hold his plate. Not sure how large the license plates are in Australia but the ones we have here are relatively small.
Perhaps a custom made bracket that wraps around edges of the exhaust at the back making it look as though the pipe exits through the body work with a built in flap (for lack of a better word) to hold the plate. I'm with you on the theory of the license plates though. I wish we could just get rid of the things, or at least make the damned things smaller so that don't detract from the lines of the bike.
I was looking at the. VFRW site earlier today and saw a photo up on the site of a Street Fighter build from another 4th gen. Can't say I'm overly fond of the front headlight fairing but the tail section and rear wheel especially looked kind of cool. Maybe some food for thought to help get the creative juices flowing.

That front mask won't last at all... First time the forks compress it is toast.
That thing is not my style at all.
Bummer .
I dont have permission to see that pic.
Ive tried to register there, but there seems to be a problem with my email...
Screengrab it and whack it in here so I can see what it is!

Well... the word unique definitely comes to mind when I look at that pic zoomzoom... but I'm going to side with Seb on this one.
In other news, I'm glad to hear my build is inspiring others to take on the challenge of stripping the fairings off the 4th gen and build it into a good looking naked bike :) It really is a great base. Keep up the good work Grasshopperman! You're going to love riding that machine when it's done! And feel free to keep picking my brain, I'll help if I can. I did my fair share of messaging others during the build.
Cheers zoom-zoom - I can see good things about this bike....
But Im not sure the headlight cover or letterbox thing is one of them! lol
The rear / seat / guard has an MX look about it
Thanks for posting it mate.
:wheel:
As I mentioned guys, it was merely food for thought. I don't like the look of the front headlight fairing much at all. I do kind of like the rear wheel. When it comes to the tail end of the bike, I think it looks a tad unfinished. Please don't get me wrong, I think Apex has created THE best looking street fighter design I have ever seen, and frankly I've was never really a big fan of them until I saw Apex's bike.
I think the sharp upward cut behind the Honda logo on the tail section would look far better IMO if it were to carry a more gradual slope upward toward the back end and more of a curved profile around the rear as opposed to the angular nature of the rear cowl as shown.
I personally dont like the sharp upward tail (and pipes) on some street-fighters - it just doesnt look right to me.
As for that white bike .
I do like a few things about it, and Im pretty sure it would turn heads - which is what he might have wanted.
Its all personal opinion I guess which is the great thing about life.
If we were all the same - Earth would be pretty shit !
"If we were all the same - Earth would be pretty shit !"
Earth is shit for a significant portion of its population..... We are the lucky few...... :-)
Well, Im heading up to my mates place this weekend to get a close up look at whats going on and to discuss the next move.
I will take some more photos of where its at.
Ok, I went up there on the weekend to have a closer look and find out where my mate is at.
Some pics.
He has a set idea on how the rear will flow (body work) and how the number plate and lights etc will look.
I probably wouldnt mind seeing it taper (or be narrower) as it hits the back, but its the number plate and lights that need to be clear to be legal.
Im a bit anxious about it - but he is very good at turning his vision/concepts in to reality.
Anyway.
If you have any suggestions or thoughts , please share as Id love to hear them.
Cheers.
*Trumpy pic is just a bonus for you to check out.

Cheers Hyo !
Greasy Seatings to you and yours, mate.
Have a good one.
hey.. a friend of mine saw my bike on google images so I had to check it out for my self... as for the front mask I made it my self I don't like looking like other people. I put 2000 r1 front fronts on it and had to lower the front fender an inch. the bike was lowered. the scoops by the header is off a 2004 636. there rear tail is a 2004 r1. carbon fiber clip-ons the rim is a 17x7.5 rock star. I will be getting it painted as soon as im done with the fiber glass also made a fiber glass rear cowl. I didn't like the r1. if you guys have any questions feel free. I love my vfr turns heads no stop.
she was still in the making I post some pic for you guys...page3

Rut Row, the Boyz have found the viffer............ Was bound to happen since nothing sounds sweeter.
Some nice touches, and at least it's not Flat Black Bobber Hacksaw style.
I have never been a "hard core" purist, and love to mod stuff. That said, some of the "creations" may have me shedding a tear......
Welcome LAT to VFRD from across the pond
another USD on a 4th Gen..... I now need to chant that mantra again....
"My redslut does not need an USD, My redslut does not need an USD, My redslut does not need an USD, My redslut does not need an USD...."
Rockstar rear wheel that's awesome ...
Man, this bike is sick!
I dont like street fighters much, but this thing is soo cooool
:wheel:thanks guys. Im hoping to put a 18 inch wheel on the back. I love the 210 50 17r tire but they no longer make it. they do make the 210 in a 18inch tho wheel im hoping it will work. I don't know if it will fit yet. but I will keep posting pics as I go.

Don't jack the man's thread now guys
Agreed. Erbilabuc, if you don't already have a build topic for that beauty, post one up!
I don't think he is started a build thread in the middle of LAT's...I think he is viewing LAT's work and asking for more of the same in a little side job.
No harm no foul.
My bad...looks like LAT jumped into the middle of Grasshoppermans thread...
Hi Gang,
I havent been active - my good friend who is doing the hard work on my project has had a few issues at home and the project took a back seat for a couple of months.
Anyway.
He has managed to get the rear-end a bit closer to something we are happy with.
Remembering that paint and upholstery of the seat will and can create some flow and lines for the bike - Im pretty happy with how it looks.
We couldnt see a way of coming up with such a minimalist look at the rear (like Andy's) and it being legal.
Plus, the pipe being under the seat was my main want for the rear end.
Thought I would share this photo and show you where its at.
Cheers,

Hey LAT - sorry , Ive havent been active for a while.
This is a Jardine Pipe off a CBR-600 I think.
A mate of mine owns a wreckers and gave it to me to try.
Not much different to previous photo. .. (coolant receptacle and tank junction)
We caught up recently to discuss chain-guard, pegs (rider and pillion) and handlebars ...
Ive been checking out these Rizoma bars ... and really like their styling.
Might fashion something up to look similar.
