Out of curiosity, is that a slider of some kind on the exhaust?

Very nice.  Thanks for the pics.   Lots of us here have a soft spot for 5th gens -  me included.   Here's an idea for Christmas . . .    :idea3:   buy 'er a set of mirrors for a 2000/2001.   You'll have one happy bike (no more mirror condoms)!

That's a fine example of a 5th gen... I admit I'm partial, but Man I love these bikes!!!

The slider on the exhaust I made myself from some colored radiator hose & a large hose clip , I got the idea from a supermoto site & had some left over when I did my sm so used it on my vfr

I'm from your side of the pond " England " no fun riding a bike in winter tho :)

Red cock-ring thing will come off instantly should the bike get horizontal and the rider get airborne.  The forces at work in a crash are huge, and I'm always surprised how riders who have never been down fool themselves into some sort of "soft landing" scenario.  It. Does. Not. Happen.  Ever.

But other than that....nice bike and good luck!

The violence of an "off" is unprecedented.  All the sliders in the world add up to nothing when the bike finds a curb, a drainage ditch, a guardrail, soft shoulders (FLIP!!!), an oncoming car.....anything other than not-so-smooth pavement.  Actually, the best anyone can hope for is pavement.  And last I checked, pavement is really hard and really abrasive....

Best you can hope for is you have leathers on and not shorts and a shirt as protection and if you come off you don't hit anything solid and immovable as that's what hurts.

You echo my point hoping not to hit anything solid like curbs, fences, poles, etc., and leathers and ballistic protection isn't "hope", it's a choice.  And whether or not you're geared up or in shorts and a teeshirt, it's pretty unrealistic to "hope" for a cornfield.  If that were the case, we'd all "hope" for a soybean or cotton field, cuz they're softer than corn stalks! :happy:

Proper gear on the rider is crucial.  Sliders on the bike?  Not so much....  :sad2:

But we've been discussing the usefulness of sliders here for years, so I'll hush up now.

Nice find, seems like more and more 5 Gens are being "recirculated" lately, I bought myself one earlier this year and found it to be one great machine, then again I think my 6 Gen is too. If/when we ride your way, we'll be sure and let you know maybe you can come join us for a ride.
