Bummer. I seem to recall though that's the way the bike itself was brought to the states - a continually pushed back ETA. We had a white one with bags at the Oregon Trail meet this summer - it is a looker with 'em on. It will be worth the wait!

Wow, that's just weird! I know that the new VFR is NOT available in blue from the factory in any part of the world, so they must have painted them....but why???!!! Although if you're into blue bikes, I bet it would look pretty good if they painted the whole bike that color.
The side bags are the same of VFR 1200 and probably these ones were installed on a blue 1200.
Interesting, I didn't know they were the same as the 1200. That would certainly explain it, as the 2012 VFR1200 ONLY came in blue (in the US).

UPDATE: Still no bags from Honda. They've pushed the backorder back to some time in February. Apparently there was a dispute with the vendor. I'm stick of waiting!
I'm going with the other option and getting GIVI bags. They're larger by 5 litres IIRC. They will definitely hold a full face helmet each and thus I will manage to fit a full grocery cart worth of groceries in them.
ISSUE: I'll have to get the top case frame for stabilization as the specific part for that for our model is also on backorder. With that backordered piece I could get the bags, frames, and a touring windscreen for the price of the Honda bags.
DOWNSIDE of aftermarket bags: The down side is of course that I'll have a separate key. For me it's worth it for the added space. I was willing to put up with the space issue in order to avoid the need for a frame and a second key, but I'm through waiting.
FWIW, I am disappointed with how small the bags are. The cutouts in the front to accommodate the passengers calves really makes the bags useless for holding a helmet or much gear.
The Givi V35s are nice bags. We have a couple of sets of them that migrate between two VStroms and a GSX650F. They do hold a FF helmet and are nice quality.

I would guess that the Givis won't be quite as well integrated as the stock bags. When you remove the stock bags, the look of the bike is very clean. The Givi bags need a rack, but there is a quick release model that is pretty clean.

I ordered the white bags yesterday, but no word on if they're still backordered. I really don't want aftermarket bags, so I'll have to wait for the Honda ones. I'm really missing having panniers. My last bike had soft Givis, and I'm totally dependent on them. Carrying a large backpack sucks.
My red bags came right away, but took a week to get the lock tumblers for them.
I believe that Switchblade is referencing the fact that it still has standard forks with a funky adapter to give it radial mounted calipers. Aside from the calipers, the suspension is pretty much unchanged from the 6th gen. Honda should have really upgraded the suspension.

VFR's have never been huge sellers for Honda in the U.S. and yet they continue to ship them here year after year, decade after decade. I wouldn't fret about seeing a few 8th gens sitting on dealers floors, I scored my new leftover '07 6th gen in 2009.
...and I had picked up (one of the last if not the last) leftover 4th Gens in 1999. Not unusual it seems.

Sorry for the delayed response. I haven't been running the bags for awhile, but I just happened to put them back on this weekend, so I measured the width for you.
I measured 38-inches with the cases mounted when checking from the rear and then double-checking from the top; this was eyeballing where the cases bulged out the furthest in the middle. In comparison, I measured the width of the stock mirrors from tip-to-tip and got 35-inches, so the K33Ns are sticking out roughly 1.5 inches beyond the mirrors.
I'm not sure what the V35 mounted measurements are on this model of VFR and it seems no one can agree on the dimensions of the cases either as most of the retail info I see online is conflicting, but as best I can tell, the K33Ns are slightly smaller (and by slightly, I mean less than an inch) in all dimensions when compared to the V35s. Much smaller in price, though; at the time I bought mine, I was able to get them for almost $200 less than a pair of V35s, and the only differences seem to be -2 liters and no reflectors; the quality is top notch and I've had no issues with them (uses exact same locking mechanisms, etc; if you don't know, Kappa is Givi's non-bling line of luggage).
