As per the the title..
I bought a wreck in bits a while back ( 1991) and have just discovered that the ignition key I have doesnt appear to fit either the fuel cap or the igniton.
I know I can replace both with fleabay specials but i just wanted to ask, before I do....
Is it possible to get spares for with reg, frame & VIN numbers,from Honda....?

In the US, they stamp a 3 digit number on the locks and keys. If you can get the number off the lock, you should be able to get a replacement. I did it once, but I also had a buddy in the parts dept at the time, Don't know how much that influenced the results.

My key, ignition and filler cap, all have different numbers to one another....
The key carries only three digits , whilst the filler cap carries 6 ( only the last 3 digits are a match to the key- but anyway, it doesnt open the cap) The ignition barrel carries 6 digits also, none of the numbers ( or letters) are a match to the key....
The lock numbers appear to be 3 numbers, 3 letters..
I guess it's speak to Honda time. What significance do we attach to the numbers or letters, or both in conjunction exactly...if any ?

All the dealer outlets locally said "No!".
I decided to go a new barrel with keys, and a new filler cap with keys . (Different keys, of course !)

Whats a fleabay special. I sell full locksets, ignition, fuel cap and helmet lock and genuine Honda keys on Ebay, whats wrong with that?
