I'm due for new tires on my 97 Gen 4 VFR. I have a $50.00 coupon for Dunlop's but I was wondering what others have been riding with. I've had Pirelli's and Michelin's but never Dunlops.
Any opinions?

They call them dunflops for a reason ,some people have good results with their tires and some have terrible problems with these tires . I would buy a set just to see how the work for you .
The Q3 are pretty good.
Have you swapped out your rear wheel for a 5th/6th gen wheel yet?
The 180/55-17 is a better option for the 4th gen.
I am wearing Pilot Powers on my 4th gen.
My 5th gen has Roadsmart II and they are holding up great.
The Bridgestone T30 is a decent tire also. When the Powers die, I will go to the T30.

Not exactly. The 5 Gen wheel has a flat back side where it mates to the hub. The hub has nuts that protrude on the mating side that will not allow the wheel to sit completely flush against the hub. For the 5 gen wheel to work on your bike, you would need to grind notches into the back of the wheel in the locations of the protruding nuts. The 3 gen (8 Spoke) wheel, will fit no modification necessary and looks great to boot!The 5th Gen rear wheel fits my 4th Gen? Without mods?!

I'm going to disagree with this. I think it's just a personal preference and not a 'must do' item. Can still get some tires in 170. The ST has a 160, and that thing goes side to side just fine.
I was running Diablo Rosso's on my last 4th gen and liked them. Plenty of tire options out there with no right one. The Q3s seem to be liked by most people who ran them. I had dunlops on the 4th gen and on the other ST. Meh. I don't remember what they were, but think more touring than sport tires. Both cupped really bad.
Ironically my Duc has a 170 tire specified on a 5.5" width wheel. When I had the Dunlop Q2s on it, I had a 170, the new Q3s however don't come in that size, so I would have to run a 160 or 180. I wasn't sure about the Q3 when it first came out and although the grip on the Q2 was great, they didn't last more than 3k, so I went with the Michelin PP3 set w/180 rear. I got at least 5k out of a set on the 01, so what the heck right.
However, I was actually contemplating going back to the Dunlops on the Duc to see if the Q3 is better as everyone I talked to who ran the Q2 prior says they are. With the $50 off and a price less than $250 delivered for a set, it's hard to say no to.

As someone who runs all brands of tires, both sport and sport touring bikes, I've never been much of a fan of Dunlop's or Michelin Pilot Powers overall. However, the Q3's seem to be a departure from the ways of past and deliver good confidence and mileage when ridden aggressively, I've been very impressed.
