Would it be possible to flash the ECU of the VFR800F?

And if so, what would you like to have changed/optimized? After all the miles I've driven, the major thing I dislike is the low rev speeds in 1st and 2nd gear. The bike isn't that responsive in a smooth way...

Yesterday I found there is a Powercommander V available for the 2014 VFR. Is it worth considering?

Are you referring to taking off from low speed? I've noticed that it can be sluggish when you're being smooth but the front lifts if you just whack the throttle back and make it angry. I'm happy with that. It does use more fuel in town than on the motorway though, would be nice if it could cut 2 cylinders when idling or just cruising along. If only power commanders could do that I'd get one. :)

It's not about taking off. it's about driving at low speed in town where it lacks precision in my opinion. I'm driving in first or second with "slipping clutch" to get it smooth, but that means more fuel consumption like you mentioned.

I'm quite sure you won't be able to get it running on 2 cyl. just by putting a PC.

Yeah the 2 cylinder thing was a joke by the way. I ride through the city and filter at sub walking pace when needed, I would say that this bike is the best balanced at low speeds and has good pull without being snatchy when in 1st or 2nd gear. I'm talking completely off the throttle and in 1st or 2nd,it just pulls along and I use the clutch to go slower than idle allows if needed. What's your idle speed? Could that be the problem?

I find the VFR way smoother at low speed than my previous bike, a Suzuki Bandit.

The only time my Vfr behaves strange at low speed is right after taking off after a cold start. I have a number of speed bumps I need to pass when I leave my house. Then we are talking jumpy and twitchy throttle response!

But after a minute or two, when temp is above about 50 degC I find that the behavior is very smooth.

I have the impression that the fuel map is optimized for low emissions and lower fuel consumption. There are a few times when I feel like I find it comparing unfavorably to the power curve of my 6th gen. On the other hand it's getting 12-15% better MPG and the suspension is far better.

I would consider settling for a few MPG less for more high end power, it that were possible. I suspect it would take more than a re flash, however.

At very low speeds with the engine warmed up I find my 2014 VFR800F very easy and responsive to ride, far better than the CBR600 I had, it was no fun at all to ride in traffic, stop and go, especially around walking speeds.

I agree, check your idle speed when warmed up. Mine was too high when I got the bike, after the first oil change I set it to 1200 rpms and it was much easier to ride at low speeds and pull out from a stop.

I have the same idea about idle speed when cold, last week I changed it to about 1500rpm when hot. Might try to get it a bit lower today.

On my break in service I told the shop idle was a bit high att 1800 hot.  They droppped it to 1000 rpm hot, 2000 rpm cold.  The cold idel is almost too fast to go down my driveway in the morning.
