Hel Brake & Clutch Lines....problem

I purchased the complete set of brake and clutch lines for my '97 VFR; went to install the rear brake line and found that the angle of the fittings do not match-up with the OEM lines.  The OEM lines are angled upwards at both master and caliper, but the HEL line has one up, one down.

I tried to install with the up angle at the master and down at the caliper but could not get the caliper end to seal as the line was against the caliper body.

Anyone have experience with HEL lines....are they just junk or what??

Have not tried the clutch or front lines yet.....wonder if I am going to run into the same problem......

From my experience with two HEL line installs, they are not junk, but I did have a similar issue with one of my rear brake lines for my 6 Gen, but it wasn't detrimental to the install. I probably should have inquired with HEL, but as mentioned, it didn't prevent it from being installed, there is just a slight twist in the line. Maybe send HEL an email and see what they have to say. I know that some Spiegler lines the banjos can be rotated so they align up better, don't think this is the case with the HEL lines, but maybe I'm wrong.

Update: emails with daghose supply where I purchased them from and who made them; I was told that I could rotate the banjo at the caliper end so that it will be the same as OEM.  I think the banjo was hitting the caliper and thus not sealing when it was opposite to that of the OEM.  Had the banjo had a 30° bend instead of a 20° it would not have hit the caliper...and would have looked better...in my opinion.

So I rotated the banjo to be the same alignment as the OEM...very easy to do.  I have not been able to see if it will work as I am out of new copper washers.

Duc2V4: you should be able to rotate the banjo to take the twist out of the line.

That's one of the reasons I went with HEL, as they also come with Stainless Steel banjo bolts. However, if you go with colored banjo bolts, those are aluminum.

I got the stainless steel banjos and clear lines.  Have not got any new copper washers yet to try again after rotating the banjo; hopefully soon.

order a bunch on mcmaster. Might even be able to find them at a hardware store. I have a small bin full of them now.

+1 on McMaster Carr. I ordered some one morning and I got them the same day after lunch time! It was delivered by a local courier. I assume this was because they have a local delivery service for orders within a certain delivery radius? I was surprised to hear a knock on the door and realize it was my crush washers!

I happened to have four copper crush washers in my bin; although they were about 2x as thick as the ones that came with HEL lines.  Anyways put them on and no leaks, so is good on the rear brake now.  I should get additional copper washers before I do the clutch and front brakes though.
