Ram-Mount Stem Ball

I have tried everything. now bolts, washers, rubber, different sizes, different hardnesses, and I STILL cannot get my RAM-mount stem ball to securely tighten in the stem without turning and twisting....

does anyone have a solution that worked for them, or at this point, an alternative? I want it on the stem, not the handlebars, but this is getting very frustrating. I expected more from such a well-respected company...

Contact member huntingguns.  Not sure if he still does but awhile back he was making a really nice replacement that solved that very issue.

I went this route, to secure it in the stem I simply took a 1.5" piece rubber same diameter as I.D. of stem and ran a screw threw the mount and the rubber "plug" sandwiched by two washers and nut.

When you tighten the screw it compresses the rubber for a nice tight solid fit.

I borrowed an idea from another VFRD member.  I bought a top yoke nut from Pro Bolt and a Ram ball and bolted them together with a little Loctite and a lock washer.  Works great! http://www.vfrdiscus...m-ball-why-not/

Completely out right now, will order some more mounts on Monday. All the extra ones I had were given up at sum sum.

The reason I went with the drilling and tapping option was to eliminate (I hope) any tendency for rotation.  Without it, you're relying much more on the friction between the RAM ball and the yoke nut than I am.

The new design that I am sending out will not rotate, period. Just got some components in so can fab up a few. I took 10 units to sum sum and they were gone pretty fast. I hope the members that picked one up will chime in with their opinions soon.

Months of procrastination later... the final product. Threaded RAM ball and ProBolt drilled top nut. I'm pleased.   [image: RAM Mount]

I should mention that I had to modify my design to keep it from rotating.  I had to pin it in place.

I have one of those ram steering stem mounts and did not even try to use the rubber plug they supplied but used a short piece of automotive power steering hose which is just the right size and available most auto parts stores, works a treat.
