So I did wounder why the 3rd gen (as 4th gen) only has low beam in one side (aside Italy that only has one H4 bulb) and the more as there is 2 H4 bulbs, its "possible" to run low beam in both.
So first question is how does the "other" low beam look like. And as I have the opertunity to test it, I did.
So left side looks like this:

and high beam like this:

and then the right side. High beam

Looks much alike the left side.
So then I did shift the wire sockels and the right side has a low beam like this

So also very much like the left side, a nice low beam pattern.
I adjusted the height to the same level, was not the fact but as adjusted separately no problem.
So the next thing I did do was to get a cable set like this:

whit it I will use the left side H4 plug as the controller, it plugs just in, and then it take power from the battery to the relays and to both bulbs and give both low and high beam in both sides! still not mounted, but have this cable set at home already.
Hopefully will get higher light output not just by the additional bulb, but also whit higher voltage in the bulbs.

dutch regulation states that a motorcycle can only have one headlight "unless 2 lights appear as one".
Thus I believe there are 3rd gen front fairings without the bit of vertical plastic "separating" the lights (it is as you know 1 unit)
since new in 1997, I had both light on (hooked up the other one + relay) and never ever had any comment from the police (neither on my LEDs)

Single most ridiculous thing I've ever read, what good reason could their possibly be for this?! I know some new bikes in the UK have the opposing headlight lit rather than both sides. I personally don't like this as at night time the bike appears to be further over to the opposing side of the road than it actually is, which can be very dangerous in many situations.
Well politics and strong law makers has made their marks in the laws of many country, and it don`t serve all time well. It made the CBX750F as VF1000R have a single light setup here in Finland, but did change so the RC30 had a 2 round setup unlike the Swiss bikes. But still could only have low beam in one of the lights. I recall there was a note in the registration documents that "low beam only in left side". It did change in the late 90´s, so the 5th gen has a both low beams working. I believe the one headlight rule come from that you could differ a motorcycle from a car whit 2 headlights., silly as a motorcycle will always have the lights closer together, but then back in time the cars where smaller, and some rules/laws are just old and hang in there. One other law that did change was that the rear mudguard don`t have to cover the wheel to middle of axle....you got a ticket for a cut rear fender still 15 years ago where I live....
Well, the only reason where we don't have dual headlights over here was for one reason.. A car's headlights are seperated wide apart.. But a farmers tractor headlights are seperated not by far, mostly about the size where a dual headlight for a motorycle would be.. A tractor doesn't travel at the same speed as a motorcycle.. And most accidents occured when cars were overtaking slow speed vehicles and did expect a tractor coming towards them.. Too bad it was a motorcycle doing triple the speed of a tractor coming towards them..
I never could figure out why some countries require both headlights do not light up on low beam.
If thus is not required for cars, why did they require it for bikes?? Plus it just looks lopsided fugly when only one light is on when you are riding the bike! My VFR has both lights lit on low and high beams. I think in the early 2000's some bikes started coming into the US with the one sided lighted headlights. not sure if the trend stuck as I don't remember seeing too many bikes with such lately on the roads.
Tractors riding at night are a safety hazard for having their 2 headlights close together.
On a dark road, the headlighs on a car (much wider apart) appear to be close together when a car approaching you is far away. So when your brain sees 2 headlights close together, you think "I can still overtake, move in the other lane for that car is still far away" And in most cases you can. Until the day it turns out the be a tractor.....

Or at least a light that is somewhere on top of the vehicle. It happened to me once when I was sporttouring at night on a narrow dyke road when I saw a car coming the other way. Suddenly its headlights disappeared and I got off the throttle immediately. Turns out there was a tracktor riding in front of the car with the bucket obscuring the tracktor's headlights. If it wasn't for the car riding behind that tracktor this could have ended in me (or half of me) ending up in that bucket.
I spliced in a new wire for the right side low beam between the headlight socket and also added a relais so the headlight switch does not have to cope with the constant 10A of current. I think only German 3rd gens came with a low beam relais from the factory.
