Have had my '97 for almost a year now, installed steel braided brake/clutch lines, chain & sprockets and had DMR rebuild the forks and rear shock.....and now I come across a 2007 with 9300 miles on it for just a bit more than what I paid for the '97....figures right!
I think I know the answer to this...but will any of the new parts I installed swap over to the '07?
As someone who rode my '97 for ten years and then swapped to my current '07, Keep the '97 as long as everything is in good condition. I love my '07 but, MAN do I miss that sound of the gear driven cams. The braided lines definitely helped with the feel on the brakes on hard stops on mine too. I also think the V-tec is a bit gimmicky and seems to need tinkering to get the throttle control to be smooth. Check my gallery for pics of both.
Back to your question....I really don't know for sure about parts being interchangeable.
Nothing suspension-wise will swap over. Brake lines won't either (standard vs linked brakes).
I wouldn't get rid of the '97 unless you had an issue with it or really want a 6th gen. With the suspension upgrades, it will probably ride better than the stock 6th gen, so consider the cost of similar upgrades.
The formula for the correct number of bikes in your garage is the current number +1. You've done the best mod on the '97 already - having Jamie re-work the suspension. You WILL kick yourself later if you sell it. So pick up the '07 and ride 'em both!
Yeah...I pretty much knew that nothing would swap over between the two....was just hoping.
My '97 is in really good condition but the plastics are showing their age and is my main concern. If the '97 even just falls over the plastics are going to break and then the problem of repairing or replacing, repainting.....you guys know...
I have not even ridden the '07.....for sale at a repair shop 4 hrs drive roundtrip and only Mon - Fri....so getting there is a bit difficult. Asking price is $3300 plus sales tax.....so not bad at all.
As far as having two bikes.....seems like the perfect number to me....just not to the wife....and too expensive to...well...better stop that on that topic!
And yeah there is the cost of doing the mods to the '07 like i have to the '97. I really doubt that I could recover any of the $$$ if I were to sell the '97...so appears the '07 will have to find a new owner elsewhere.....oh well....it was fun to think about.

Good to hear...but I remain worried about the plastics. I have JB Weld the areas around the backside of all the mounting points in hopes of keeping cracking at bay for awhile....has worked on car interiors plastics.
"The mailman" - the '07 I was looking at is the dark red like yours....really like that color for some reason. My '97 is of course "Honda Red"....which is nice, but that '07 dark red and the undertail exhaust......just "speaks" to me.....come buy me......good thing it is a 2hr drive away; if it was 30 minutes away I would have it.
Oh well...I think I hear my '97 calling me....it is 84° outside....it wants to go ride.........
If you're really worried about the plastics, there are a couple of CBR body conversions on here that have come out very nice.
Plenty of 4th Gen Plastic's available just keep your eye out, when you see them pick them up.... I did have a problem....

When I painted mine white, I wanted to be able to change back to red, if I wanted to :unsure: Love the White! Now I am focusing my attention on my 5th Gen.
Yeah I have looked at the airtech fairings....would require a bit of effort to work as they are for race bikes...but do'able.
I keep looking for plastics, but have not seen much...but I always keep an eye out.
NOW a new question: have found a 2000 VFR.....same original question as in #1....would any of the upgrades I have done to my '97 swap over to the "00?

Forks are of larger diameter, so you'd have to swap the triples too (bolt-in) - then sort out the linked brakes, as in de-link them.
The shock will probably go straight in to a 2000.
As a data point - 5th Gen 800 shares rear sprocket mounting dimensions with 3rd and 4th Gen 750, but 6th Gen 800 has different rear sprocket PCD.
I am finding out the same thing with the 99 I am putting together, 5th and the 4th are completely different bikes....so much for all the fourth gen parts, now its time to start collecting fifth gen parts :comp13:
