Are the delux options worth it? The abs sounds acceptable but reviews on the traction control & turn signal cancellation not so much. Heated grips are a plus but sound like a big expense when its time to replace the grips?
Anyone regret buying a dlx?

your questions.... Abs is good. Never kicked in even though under hard braking when I took it to the track recently. Ditto the traction control which I left on. Not kick in even under hard acceleration in second and when rear tyre began to slide a little in the afternoon. But the abs sure worked well when I attended riding school and made to brake hard from 100kmh. The drive to my house is gravel based and never been bothered by abs of tc.
heated grips .... If they go bust, replace with aftermarket ones. Indicators ... Once you get used to them, they work fine. Wouldn't do without them. Overtaking, it lasts 150 meters. More than adequate to overtake. I turn it on and forget about them, allowing me to watch where I'm going and what's approaching.
you also get adjustable suspension which in stock form, new, are pretty good. I had a fifth gen with ohlins shock and much more adjustable, but got no complaints about this in the eight gen.
No regrets here either. I wanted the deluxe specifically for the abs as I had it kick in a few times on my last bike, one time when it definitely saved me from going over.
ABS has only kicked in a couple times very briefly on the VFR and times that wouldn't surprise me. Same with TCS, while I'd love some options to "tune it" to the conditions I want, honestly, it's been fine for me. The signals could be more consistent, but usually I find they turn off earlier than I want. I've still happy to have them. It's nice to not have to worry to turn them off constantly. Heated grips have been great, even if they were expensive to replace, I'm hoping they last quite a while and I don't think they'd be much worse them having to add them aftermarket (and at least we get the nice integration with them). The additional suspension tuning options are useful too.
NO...I don't regret it at all..
I never considered a base and I haven't looked back. Heated grips, center stand and ABS alone are worth the cost & I like that you get a free rear cowl. I don't use the self canceling indicators. The TCS activated once when I kicked it in the ass from a stop light that had light sand I didn't see. Came in handy there.
No regrets on getting the DLX.
The auto cancelling turn signals weren't important to me.
ABS - works well enough for panic braking straight up.
Traction Control - not great.
Heated grips - very nice to have
Pre wired for gear/accessories - very nice to have
Adjustable forks - very nice to have for a sporty rider like myself
Rear Remote pre-load adjuster - very nice to have. I have passengers sometimes and it makes a difference
Center stand - very nice to have. Makes lubing the chain a breeze.
I suspect there are a lot more people who would regret the base model than the other way 'round.

I think so, too. Everyone knows the 8th gen has been a slow seller in the US, but stopping in two local dealers regularly for the last couple years tells me that almost no one wanted the standard. One of those dealers claims to be the largest in the US. A year ago there were several 14's, with a few DLX. I think I got the last 14 DLX in town last August, while ALL those 14 standards are still there as far as I can tell. Maybe the latest round of discounts will finally clear them.
And the dealers apparently got the message: I never saw one 15 standard for sale, but I have seen a few 15 DLX, and I've seen some apparently sell in the last year. I'd guess they simply did not order any standards at all for 15.
I have a '14 standard because I didn't want the things the Deluxe offered except for the center stand which the dealer put on at his expense in order to make the deal. I guess that makes me "almost no one." That's OK. Perhaps VFR's aren't selling because most of what's on the floor is the Deluxe model with a Deluxe price. No point in arguing that because there's no way to find out. As another thread is about, VFR's aren't selling well. They never have. That's OK too.
Whenever I get my '07 Anniversary sold, I'm looking at a '14 standard. I don't really want anything except the hand warmers and Centerstand, the later of which I'll just buy used off of ebay for $30 of of a 6th gen. It would be nice to have rebound adjustment on the forks though. Why don't they just have nice adjustable forks for what Honda asks for a price for these?
