Browsing ebay this evening turns up a new 2014 (1 mile) for Buy It Now $6,500. Incredible! I paid $8,500 for my '99 5th gen when new. Using an inflation calculator, in today's prices that would be $12,317. Inflation calculator That makes this 8th gen about 1/2 the price of my 5th gen in constant Dollars. I can only wonder what that kind of pricing says about the US market and whether Honda will continue to sell it here. :unsure:

The Deluxe is well worth the extra money IMHO. You get adjustable front/rear suspension, ABS, TCS, heated grips and center stand - the standard model has none of these.

No disagreement here with that at all - I would also go for the DLX if shopping. The point was the relative weakness in prices for new units be they DLX or not.
Great bike and a great deal, quick grab it.
I almost want to total mine and go get that one. Hell, that's less than I paid for a leftover 599 in 2007.

That could be part of Honda's (and all the manufacturer's) trouble - a shrinking demographic and plenty of high quality, low mile used bikes around, or like me riders that are perfectly happy with what they have. I was thrilled to see Honda introduce the 8th gen - but I fear for its longevity - at least in the N.A. market.
Pretty confident I'll end up with one in my garage within 3 months. It will probably be kept on a tender and not ridden for several years... my 6th has too much life left to retire it.

Crikey, I know it's different pricing from Sweden but I paid around those figures for my 2006 VFR this summer which has some 12k miles on it. It did come with a Leovince skb slipon and hard luggage but nowhere near any of the fittings needed to put them on the bike :) (I bought nuts and bolds for $40 the other day and need more to get the things on there)

I agree. The 8th gen is nicely refined, but it isn't significantly different from the 6th gen. Not enough there to make me want to make the leap.
That's what I paid for my leftover 07 with ABS in 2009.
I like the 8th gen, it's definitely a refined 6th gen, unlike the 7th that was completely different. (That's not to say I don't like the 7th gen. A friend has one and he absolutely loves it, as much as I love my 6th gen.) If I were in the market for a new bike, I would most likely get an 8th gen, unless I found a screaming deal on a 7th.

The real problem is Honda doesn't market their motorcycles at all. Look at how many cars they sell. They market their cars. What a revelation.....
The car market is much, much bigger than the motorcycle market. In the MC market, you really have to target your audience and be very specific. Websites such as this and others like it should be their first go-to for advertising the VFR800. They should be more aggressive in offering road test reviews posted on YouTube MC related sites. More pretty pictures in Cycle World and other publications would help. But then again, they've got a CBR1000RR that they're focused on at the moment. Between that and the Africa Twin, there is no room for the slow selling VFR800 in the advertising budget. LOL!
OK, I never felt this way, but now I must admit this is pushing me to hate the USA.... 6k euro for a new 8th gen....

It's now showing up under "Completed listings" rather than "Sold listings". They could have sold it locally in the dealership and pulled the ebay listing.

I live in NY and I found a leftover 2014 8 Gen in WI for $6,700. The problem was I had to buy it in WI and the travel/hotel/transport costs put it over $8800. My local dealer matched the $8800 & I brought it home the same day. A great price is only relative to how close you are to the dealer.

I didn't spend 1/4th of that to drive from TN to TX and pick up a CB500X that my son had bought, deliver it to him in Willits, CA and pick up his electrically challenged 6G that had him in a Nissan rental car for two weeks and return to TN.
Not saying that it is free to pick up a smoking deal on a vehicle several (or more) states away but it can be done without spending 1/3rd the cost of the newly acquired vehicle.
Plus some people like the adventure of going places and meeting new people.
You forgot to add in the cost of "live entertainment" while at the hotels when calculating the $2100 bill for the trip ;)

Motorcycle sales are about half of what they were annually in the 2005-2006 timeframe. Motorcycles are bought with disposable income for the most part and people just don't have it as in the past. I don't think much of it is a generational thing. Maybe draining the swamp will help bring back normalcy which most people have forgotten IMO. We are paying for too much govt. and not enough of what we want. Over and out.

I agree and it can be difficult to quantify the cost of government waste and mis-management. For example, are you and I paying more for pork and beef because our government determined to subsidize some farmers and we are putting 10% corn into our petroleum products? Hard to say.
I do know that when I travel to Washington DC for work I am always pissed off because I am the old guy walking around turning lights off in my home and I see every government building with lights ablaze and the collective "us" unable to flip the switch and save some bucks.
We need term limits and congress needs to live under the laws that they pass for the rest of us without being able to exempt themselves.
And congress should ride VFRs. :wink:

Thats really on the cheap and a great deal. I'm in California but I checked a couple other states close by also and I selected the best deal I could find for my '14 Deluxe at $10,300 otd for it all. I'm ok with the deal although maybe could have done better, not many incentives by Honda at the moment.

Good shopping. There is a std now at coleman's near me but it has some miles and seems like the dlx is the best way to go in my view.

Yea. It had 9 miles on it. I looked for about 3 months before I found it. And this was OTD, before TTT. I bought it in MD and live in VA. They mailed me the title and I paid the registration, taxes, and title, about another 350 or so.

Good work, you got a superb deal! Taxes must be really low for you, it's about 9% where I live. I think I paid $8,400 for the bike, $1k for setup and delivery (bs I know) and $750 for taxes plus $150 for registration. It didn't matter much to me how they wrote it up I was only focused on total OTD pricing. In Northern California where I live, the lowest was approx. $1,800 more OTD and I looked for ~3 months also. Even in the LA area this was the best I could find among the dealers there. But...nothing is cheap in California.

Ok new here but how about the 2014 CTX1300 I bought end of last year for $7,999 when it was over priced at $15,999 in 2014 , they did not market the bike and still have a bunch being sold at half price and it was a one year wonder. The way honda does things I would never pay the full retail on a new bike, just wait a year or two and save a fortune.
I'm about to pull trigger on a 2014 VFR800 DLX for $8,499 which if I have done my research is about $4K off the price from 2014.

I think it's great that people are getting good deals but at what point do we no longer consider a leftover 2014 model "new". I mean, if we fast forward 3 more years to the year 2020 and see a Honda dealer trying to sell a leftover "new" 2014 model for $1,599 are we really gonna be surprised and say "holy smokes I had to pay 8 times that price when I bought mine new"? As soon as someone rides off the lot with their "new" 2014 model it is instantly just another 3 year old used bike, albeit one with very low miles and a warranty. I'm reminded of when I bought a leftover "new" 2004 Mustang Cobra Convertible in the summer of 2006. Dealers had been sitting on those cars forever because they were the coveted model in their eyes and they were trying to inflate the prices over sticker. But then the prices plummeted because the all new body style had now been out for 2 years and the 2007's were right around the corner. All of a sudden they were selling them for dirt cheap!

Glad to see you're stepping up to the Deluxe. Worth the extra cost, in my opinion. But that's still a great price.

the 8th gen is a great looking and handling bike. i just wish honda would drop a 7th gen motor in it with chain drive, call it new, put usd forks on it, promote it as wonderful (did anyone hear the words super sport??) and watch the orders come in. And to those that say its too hard to do this....i say they created a 7th gen ... surely they can mod a couple of things on the 8th gen and make it work.

Since the 2014 is identical to the 2017, if it's new in the crate with zero miles and full warranty, it's new in my book. While it's true you leave the lot with a three year old bike, anyone that's buying any motorcycle considering resale value is making a mistake to start with. To your point Gator - if the current model is "improved" or has more desirable features, then one could argue that the non current model is "new", but it's not the same bike.

Things got so bad in 2009 Honda did a permanent price reduction on several models. Very few people were buying toys back then and bikes that were traditionally slow sellers were serious showroom anchors.

I didn't on my CTX1300 and regretted it, I would have paid the extra just to get the center stand installed, After doing that center stand install I was cussing at myself, what a PIA that was. SO far I am in love with my interceptor. I traded in my 2010 Street Triple R for the CTX1300 and found out you can't lean a CTX anywhere near as far as I tried, my
bruising is fading and I am never going to get another cruiser/touring bike again. Only up side is this 500 pound bike feels like a feather to me after that 725 pound pig.

I see your point and it would perhaps be more applicable for folks living in countries where Honda is actually offering the slightly tweaked '17 model - only a true VFR nut would notice any changes. But in the USA Honda appears to have no interest in offering the '17 model. My point wasn't so much about resale value. My point was that while it's great people are getting ostensibly "new" bikes for way less than the initial or even downwardly revised MSRP, they are simply getting the bikes at a price that reflects what the law of supply and demand dictates a new bike with 3 years worth of dust on it is worth.
That said, personally I think my '14 VFR looks just as up to date and modern as some of the all new for '17 models such as the '17 CBR 1000RR and Ducati SuperSport. Yes the VFR is missing some of the higher tech electronics of these new bikes but it does have LED headlights, ABS, and traction control - things not even offered on the 1000RR in the USA until this new for '17 model (yeah technically ABS was offered previously on the 1000RR but good luck actually finding one). And who knows, maybe the '17 Ducati SuperSport will reinvigorate interest in the sports-touring market for the USA and result in new old stock VFRs selling out and convince Honda to release the '17 (or '18) VFR in the USA?
