Im beginning to think that there really could be a new VFR in 2009

Yep Ive seen that one too. The facts are starting to come together... Looks like its guna be a 1000cc V5... VFR / Blackbird replacment. Both of those sorces are reputable. And raise some vaild points bout the 60th Anniversary etc...

All I gotta say is bye bye Busa and 01 VFR if this comes together perfectly!

Top Ten Reasons Not to Buy the 2009 VFR 1000

10. It's too complicated.
9. It's too expensive.
8. It's not red. Therefore, it loses 10MPH of top end speed.
7. The seat is uncomfortable.
6. Snatchy throttle
5. Flat spot in the power band between 4500-4525 RPM
4. It only produces 150hp and the 2009 Ninjabusa produces 153hp.
3. The rear shock spring rate is spec'ed out for a Japanese test rider weighing 125 lbs.
2. Harley riders still won't wave back.

I just can't believe they'll go with a V5... any other manufacturar used a V5 for a street bike?

If they are going to up the ponies, why up the kilos as well?

The sources seem more reputable but could just as easily be based on the patents registered by Honda, which doesn't mean they'll be "etched in metal"...

5 cylinders is far from necessary... you can get the output figures with 4 no probs, and keep her trim...

In whatever shape and form it finally does come out, assuming it comes out and isn't discontinued, I'll be waiting a few years for the teething problems to be ironed out.

Bugger that, I am a proud owner of a 2002 VFR, built in February of that year. Yes she has a snatchy throttle sometimes, but other than that she has done me no wrong!

After six years though, I'm gagging for a new bike so if there really is a new 2009 VFR....stand aside and let me have one of the first!

So is Vista and Mac Tiger, yet people seem to be buying it.

Who really needs to save for retirement?

It will still be fast enough to warrant a ticket in just about any area of the world. Besides, who said it wasn't red?

Hello, Sargeant . . .

Hello, gearshift . . .

I doubt you'll notice the difference if you don't put a Goldwing trailer behind it.

That's because their chaps are too tight.

So is the idea that I ride my VFR to save gas.

[/snip]

If they did do a 5 cylinder, I'm sure it would be more for marketing purposes as opposed to actual performance benefits. Ducati is master of this with their desmo valves and trellis frames (barring the carbon framed GP9). As far as keeping it trim, with the old RC211V the front 3 cylinders sat just in front of where the frame attached to the motor, so I think they kept the bike pretty slim. The actual width between the legs came from the rear two cylinders. However, I'll agree with you that a V5 is unlikely to be placed in this hypothetical 09' VFR.

Personally, i would not like to see the VFR become a liter bike. No solid reason, other than personal preference. Indifferent to the V5, but don't think its necessary, or going to happen for that matter. But two thoughts come to mind.

1. If they do bring it back as repsol envisions, is this going to affect any of the racing leagues? Don't think so, but I don't know much about that realm.

2. Combining the VFR with the Blackbird isn't a bad idea. If you could mate the power of the XX with the handling and comfort of the VFR, you wouldn't need to produce both bikes, which would make manufacturing cheaper and easier. Can they actually do it though?

Wake me up when it's over...................

just seems to me, though, that throughout the history of motorcycle manufacturers and especially auto manufacturers, if a new model of a particular vehicle is slated for changeup, you usually see "prototypes" and expos and whatnot... they put an '07 in the pic. SOMEBODY would have had a peek by now...

though I am interested, though....

If its not an official Honda press release, then its all lies.

We have been seen these same rumors every year, for many years now. The frameless V5 thing was from a patent application from a few years ago, and gets brought up every year in the rumor stories. I'm expecting BOLD new graphics, or it being finally discontinued.
#27
Since I'm not in the market for a new bike, and won't be anytime soon, all the 'new VFR' rumors are mildly interesting, but still very inconsequential to me. We should hear some legitimate news on the VFR's future in September. Until then it's just speculation.

I do agree with Auspanol, however...If and when a new VFR is introduced, I'll likely wait a couple years to let them de-bug it before buying one. Of course, we all know it takes longer than a couple model years to de-bug some bikes. Since Honda just got around to the wiring harness recall on the '02-'05 VFRs, it's hard to have much faith that a new model would be 100% sorted out even after a couple years.

Yet one more reason to stay with my '04 I guess - it's 100% sorted out now. ;)

NEW SUPER SECRET SPY FOOTAGE OF 2009 VFR:
#30
I just bought a mint 2005 K1200S...so I want this to be LIES!!!! BUT, repsol is a Honda factory team partner....they are in the know. Plus, I refuse to believe Honda would kill both the VFR and the Blackbird without replacing them with at least ONE bike. That is too huge of a segment of the market, especially in Europe, to just give it away. There will be a new bike. I just don't know if it will be called a VFR. Honda may ditch the historic name to distant the bike from it's old guy reputation, and the marketing monkeys may give it an exciting new name to attract squids. (Squids love to buy new bikes...especially if they are expensive.) Maybe they'll call it the Inter-bird.....or the Black-o-ceptor.

Note the text at the bottom of the last "photo" [A simulated rendering of the 2009 Honda VFR1000] SO, once again we have nothing but ideas of what the idea may look like! When I see it at my dealer I may buy one. Till then I will continue to ride my VF1000's. Just my $.02
