Don't you mean "This Month's" new VFR from MCN...??
#6
can anyone scan the "full story, Page 2" ?
#7
Wow, if this is true I am sold !!!!

Best looking photchop I've seen. If Honda builds that bike, my debt-to-income ratio is so screwed...
#10
ewwww. shaft drive ala the dn-01. don't think I like that...
#11
what a joke-look at the under bike exhaust-then look for the mid pipe that goes to the tail section-the front end is cbr1000( I would know) and the rear tail is also 1000 material.

very good photochop but if you make the picture big they forgot to erase part of the old exaust mid pipe
sorry no seeie with my eye no believie
#13
opps I was alittle slow tippman bet me to it.
#15
I'll believe it when I see it from Honda but in all the years we've been talking about the next VFR this is the first version/photochop/article (what ever you want to call it) that kind of sparks a bit of interest with me.
#17
Push button gear change, variable cylinder technology, brake by wire.

Sounds good but do we really want all this tech on a bike? Just seems like its just more stuff to go wrong and have to pay to have it fixed.
#18
The article makes no mistake about saying this is a photoshop job, but they supposedly got this info from "an inside source" that was involved or around the testing of it. So yes, if it makes it to market it may look a bit different, but this is probably pretty close (if it really happens).

I like it mostly, but I didn't like reading the following:

Variable cylinder technology (i.e. runs on less than 5 cylinders, depending on "how you're riding")
chain-driven cams
push-button "semi-automatic" transmission
shaft drive (although I like and dislike this simultaneously)

Time will tell :comp13:

Damn!, they go gift us with another cylinder, but take it away again with "variable cyclinder" crap! I don't want to carry an air pump on my bike! That stuff is for Gold wings to inflate their tires with! But I guess we could see it coming anyway....VTEC was issued, but no real horsepower gains......I bet those upsidownies would have zero adjustability too.....Shaft drive will be the last nail in the coffin for me and the VFR. Blehhhhh!!!

I heard the exact same thing about ABS years back.

I go back a little farther...I heard the same about:

Disc brakes
Aluminum frames
water cooling
plastic gas tanks
alloy wheels
.....enough for now, but the general idea...............
#22
variable cylinders, brake by wire, push button trans, shaft drive

OR

air cooled ...........

I think I'll keep my fifth gen and buy the CB1100R!!!!!!

It's cool also that this board has enough weight to attract attention from MCN.

How long will it be before enthusiast sites like VFRD get the real inside scoop from manufacturers? Only a matter of time...

I hereby volunteer to be VFRD's first official investigative reporter

That's cool, but I think it'd be neat if the bike could keep the battery charged while you ride it around, that, or mount the R/R in a convenient disposable cartridge.

I really want to see this happen. Skuut,I think you pinned the first time around. Just can't see Honda dumping and I mean dumping cash into this project. It seems that the only way Honda will do this is if they plan on racing it. Where who knows,I just think with the current state of economy...it just doesn't add up.

If it does happen:

For Sale....HARDly used '07 ....

my money is on a new V4

the V5 will be saved for a more serious bike, like a new blackbird, RC61, or MotoGP replica
#32
Honestly though, the engine (even if it could use more power) is the soul of the bike. The sound of that V4 howling through the Cherohala Skyway or up 129 makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Hats off to Remus for getting a beautiful tune out of it. I just turned 43K on my 03 and it seems to run just as good as it did when I got it with 10K on it.
It's gonna take a really sweet new VFR to get mine from me though. If it's half assed, there is no need.

Does anyone at Honda pay attention to customers? The VFR rider is notoriously loyal and most likely more able to afford a top of the line high speed tourer. IMO, Honda needs to come up with their version of the Concourse ZX-14. Sorry but the ST1300 is just not going to cut it.
#33
Head, you hit it on the hea... you got that right. Remus and the V4 sounds just awesome.

95 VFR

Excuse my ignorance, please educate me.
What are the negative properties of shaft drive?

Beck,

A few things on the negative side; and they may not be a concern for you.
There is sometimes an unsprung weight penalty.
There is very little chance of changing gearing.
If you need repairs it will likely require factory tools, gauges and you likely won't DIY.
Every time a drive train makes a right angle turn the gearing sux up a few hp. *
* With the current VFR engine configuration there would be 2 turns for a shaft drive.

Good fortune,

Good fortune,

dont forget how the rear end of a shaft drive bike will stand up under hard acceleration.
thats why kawi came up with that complicated linkage on the C14

Would you please reveal your reliable sources, so that we may beat them vigorously about the head and shoulders with our dashed hopes?!?

Always hopefull, but as every other year, managing my expectations, yet again.

Today is October 7. and I'll have to agree on the insanity assertion. Here is a link to the official 2009 models from Honda: 2009 Honda models

However, at the Intermot fair in Cologne, Honda will reveal a new concept bike with a V4 engine, later today.

Shoot me if I missed something but the 2009 VFR is already announced, came out first on the US site, it's exactly the same... (blackened out frame, fork cartridges and SSSA) or are we talking 2010 now?

Interesting comments on shaft drive, I use to have one on a GT750 Kawasaki, absolutely loved it. Did about 30,000 km the first year I owned her and you really get spoilt, never having to do chain maintenance in all those kilometers...

Also interesting comments on the Concours owner... I'm 6'4" and seriously looking at the ZX-12R... secondhand of course as it had a very short production run... the Blackbird is just too "nice", I like "naughty" hehehe... still, what with the "economic crisis" no-one's even looking sideways at buying either of my VFRs... and then again, sometimes it's better the devil you know...

That is the new color for (at least) the US. No idea what the 2009 VFR will be like over here. The Honda website still has the 2008 colors: silver black & red (no blacked out frame or forks). Same for Honda Espaa.
We (Europe, Canada, OZ, NZ) will get the 7th gen revealed later this year (today at Intermot, or EICMA in november). As with the DN-01, the 7th gen VFR will be available in the US a year later. hehe, just messing with you all :-)

@Tob: Thanks for the link, interesting website apart from the survey based on that 'sculpture'.
#44
Perhaps the current model VFR800 will continue on in its current form for years to come given it's fairly modern design but be replaced by an all-new larger displacement "VFR" for 2009. This would be kind of what Honda did to the CBR600F4i. We all know Honda is LONG overdue with a new sport-touring bike and I'm thinking 2009 may be the year. Why do I think this?... The VFR is now only available in one color, and other than the DN-01 and some new ABS systems on their spersport bikes, Honda has not made any significant announcments yet on their 50th year anniversary. Hmmmm.... In a few more hours, we shall see if anything is revealed at Intermot.

How jealous us Americans would be if Europe got a new VFR and we didn't?

Interesting thought there. Honda could do what Kawasaki did with the Concours 14 - introduce it as a model due two years from now but release it earlier than the next year's models usually arrive. (Ex: Intro the '10 VFR that would arrive late summer '09.) IIRC that's exactly what Kawi did with the Connie. Stirred up a huge amount of interest, too.

Hey, we can always dream, right?

damn, a couple of years! i've been waiting for 3 years now........i guess i put my project on hold till i heard more.

Mag Drive Rear wheel. how cool would that be.

please take the survey. and for displacement select 1400cc. that way if they do build it, it could have the potential of the ZX14/Busa.

Oh and didnt i say we would see a new V4?

Love the wallpaper of the 82 Sabre. I have that exact bike.

WTF is that site ON ABOUT?! I just checked it out and it's nothing more than....fluff!

It sounds like somebody at Honda Europe told Honda Japan that they needed to "produce something" and this is what they came up with.

I see one of two things happening. Either there is a new bike coming soon and this site is the placeholder for it, or they are just scratching their asses. Either way, the site is stupid!

Now we know. Honda has annonunced the new color scheme, at least for Europe:

I think I prefer the all black US color scheme.
