Rather than spend a whole bunch of time (which I dont have) and money (which I dont have either), I'm going to purchase one of the ebay fairing kits from Hong Kong. Does anybody have any reviews or advice as to if any kits or sellers are better than others?

That kit looks pretty good! I liked the other REPSOL kit but it didn't come with a tank cover and you would have had to paint the wheels orange to look good. If you go for it post up how the kit looks and how the install went. Good Luck!
I like the Repsol as well. Tank cover would be cool if it was nice and flush. Probably have to use double sided tape. Paint looks pretty good. Amazing what prison labor can do if "motivated" properly.
It would be nice if they sold unpainted sets at a further discount... painting it any color I want would be best for me... maybe they'd do it if requested?
Also check out nicecycle.com. Any of the kits available can
be ordered for the VFR as well. When you check out, you
give them the kit number you want for the VFR fairings.
A guy at bike night has one on his 1000RR and loves it. I checked it out and the fitment is spot-on. I'm still a little skeptical becuase it is Ebay, but I'm thinking about it as a track set.

Ok, this is new for me.. to these panels replace the fairing or just coever it by going over the fairing and using the same mounting pints ? (I know that the tank will just be covered)
Most of these look cheap at first glance till you look at the shipping costs. They still might be much cheaper than OEM parts though. hardest part is you do not see in person what you are buying. I'm surprised these guys dont set up distribution in this country. Could it be patent complications from Honda and other bike companies?? I guess someone could just take a vacation in HK and get a good look at them and buy them to take back.

Also brings to mind another thought, plastic for 20 year old bikes is still kind of available through companies like Maier... I wonder if we'll have that kind of representation in 20 years for parts like this from these Hong Kong companies?

Maybe Meier or other companies like them could tie up with these HK outfits and sell their wares as their own "street line" fairing replacement products. At least the distribution system, contacts and advertising leads are already set up. I guess, someone's gotta start talking with someone first. A resourceful business major type (preferrably with HK connections already) can make this happen pretty quickly. Lots of riders out there will eventually need an alternative (cheaper) fairing replacement source, specially with the recent boom in bike sales, used and new. the possible high volume sales in this country can eventually lower the cost of the fairings too!
I still do see some copyright and patent issues with the racing replica fairings. those race sponsor companies would want a piece of the action for sure. JMOs

Now thats a very cool Idea!!!!! Clear panels you could paint from the inside like model RC cars. It would be pretty easy for the average person to paint any color you want.

They do and they will if you request it. I saw an unpainted set a few weeks back for 510 shipped.
Thanks for all the replies! I'll take before and after pics. I'm not sure which kit I'm gonna go with. The movistar set is very attractive but I might see if they can make something basic like black with red decals.

They have for track bikes. Sorry, I don't recall who it is but you can paint them from the inside with even cheap, rattle can paint and it'd look pretty damn good since it would appear to have 10 coats of clear from the outside view.

I saw a couple sets a few weeks ago in plain white and black...I will probably pick up a set to have as spare's..I thought it might be cool to have a color swapable bike....One color on week swap over to the other color for a change.

I read they discontinued them so if any are interested, u might try and contact them to see if you can get ahold of a set.

Yes I agree, please let us know how this goes for you! I just registered as a member on here yesterday and have already got lots of great info! I bought a 2004 asphalt that had been layed down real lightly, but I have been tossing around the idea of buying one of these sets of plastics since I bought the bike three weeks ago. I'm just a little nervous right now about the shipping and of course the quality of the fairings/Paint. The price sure is good though. Let me know how this whole process goes if you wouldn't mind, I may be slapping one of these sets on my new to me VFR yet!
They make them for tons of bikes. I have the Repsol set for my 600RR. I like them. I know several people what have ebay fairings and its hit or miss but generally auctmarts will do their best to help.

No pics just yet. I can't find my cord. I do have somewhat of an update though. The paint looks good. Just a few small bubbles here and there, hardly noticeable, I couldn't get them to show up in the camera.
I've run into a problem though. On the tail fairing, the mounting tab threads that hold the brake assembly to the tail fairing are too small. The factory screws don't fit so I'm going to have to find new screws.
For the front fairing that holds the headlights, blinkers, etc., I cracked a small piece close to the corner of the headlights, I was trying to bring everything together, tightening up everything and the right headlight pushed down too hard and made a little crack. I've decided to stop installation and take the bike to the shop I originally planned on taking it to. I'm a big DIY-er and thought i could do all this but I'm second guessing myself. Hopefully they can fix the small crack and color match the grab handle covers (currently red) as well.
So for now, this project is on hold til I can find a truck to haul the bike or re-essemble my old front fairing and drive the bike down to the shop.
Good news though, the side fairings will mount up, the holes line up, everything looks good. But who knows how difficult it will be to bring it all together. The tank cover will fit as well. I (or the shop) will have to dremmel the mounting holes just a little bit bigger to provide enough clearance for the bolts.
I'll try and find my cord and upload some pics this afternoon.

This pic is of the rear tail piece. The screw holes in the new kit are tabs built in and already threaded, but are smaller than the OEM holes, so like i said earlier, I'll need smaller screws to make the brake light assembly fit, but it appears everything lines up.
Sorry guys for no updates recently. I've been absolutely swamped and haven't made any progress. I just graduated from Texas Tech University (get ur guns up!) and am job hunting so funds are pretty tight right now.
I have more pics on another storage card somewhere downstairs, but they're all pretty much the same as this one. Like i said earlier, there are some small bubbles and swirl marks here and there if you look really closely.
Hopefully I'll be able to get the bike into the shop within a week or two to get everything put on. But as of right now, the giant box just sits in my living room taking up space.

Yes I did. The tank cover fits well. Just needs to be dremmeled a bit to make the holes on the front line up right. Lemme go through my email and I'll PM you his ebay ID and email account. He may or may not get back to you accordingly, but he will sooner or later.

You won't be disappointed with the sound in the least. I bought the round can a while back for $400 and love 'em.
Hey everybody! I just wanted to give an update on the ebay fairing kits. I saw someone on ebay selling a few plastics from one of the kits so I decided to send him a message to ask him how his install went.
Here's my message to the seller:
How was overall fitment with the kit? I've got a kit too sitting in a box in my garage. I'm tryin to find a shop to put it on. Did you run into problems with screw holes in the front and rear fairings? In my kit there are holes for the screws in the front and rear fairings but they aren't threaded.
Here's what he sent back:
Hi Chris,
Basically my kit was complete junk!!!
The front cowl was warped, you would never tell until you try putting the lights in. The headlights wouldnt line up and the signal lights, well one wouldnt even fit. As for the bolt holes they were threaded but wrong size, and forget about buying threaded screws at the hardware store because there odd sizes. Hardware store is like 4 6 8mm and these are like 5mm had to buy screws from honda shop. anyway i broke the front cowl trying to fit it.
Side cowls, when you looked at them sraight on again looked warped. and was very hard to fit the left side on.
After fitting the sides on i tried to put the piece that goes on in front of the mufflers and ties them together, well none of the bolt holes would line up. I compared the front piece to the original and it is fine the problem is with the side cowls.
The rear cowl. Bolt holes are angled wrong and in wrong location. the kit was complete garbage.
As for your bike if it is like mine, many of the holes are not threaded, some parts have these little rubber gromets with threaded metal center, you put this in behind before putting your bold through, As you tighten the bolt, the threaded part pulls forward in the gromet and locks it in place.
Hope this information helps anyone out there thinking about buying a kit. I experienced the same problem with my front cowl. The headlights were so tight that they caused a small crack in the cowl. I thought it was my fault but it makes sense now.
A little update on my bike. I decided to sell it. The honda dealership pulled the forks and told me they're slightly bent at the top near the triple tree. Talk about a headache that I didn't want to dive into! I already found a buyer and if all goes well, the bike should have a happy new home at the end of March. Hopefully the new owner will be able to provide further information about the kit. Thanks everyone for all of the valuable information provided here. As for a new bike.....I'm leaning towards a slightly used triumph sprint st or another vfr.
Do the 6th gen's have plastic tank covers from the factory?
Got a guy from another forum buy a kit for his gsxr and he got a "test" kit when AuctMarts switched from plastic molds to ABS molds not too long ago and he said his fit perfect. So maybe they're better now. Probably still hit or miss but if people would contact them if theirs fits and lets them know then they know they are doing a good job.

Honda will never sell their molds to anyone, these Hong Kong and Chinese fairing company make a mold off of actual oem fairings, since its not based off the original mold set (like making a copy from a copy) thats why they fit like ass.
