Where Should I Buy Tires?

I need a rear skin and I am not real picky. I am thinking a sport touring tire from Bridgestone, Michelin, Conti, or Pirelli. Also is it ok to run a super sport tire in the front with a sport touring tire in the back. I have been reading a bit about a few guys doing that and it interest me as I don't slide the back tire but it does seem to wear quickly, and I think the quicker turn in in the front would be a desirable behavior. And who is cheapest as a rule? I looked at Dennis Kirk and they claim to beat anyones price by a buck, anyone know if this is true? Thanks.

Got my PR2's @ ridedirect.com last month for 289.90 shipped, no tax. But I though I read there is a shortage of rears right now.

Check out this thread. It would be worth making a 5 minute phone call to Dave Lusk @ Mosites Motorsports to get a quote. I know he sells OEM parts pretty much as cheap as they come, and he also claims to be unbeatable on tires...

these guys have good prices and outstanding service and free shipping on a set of tires have used them many times tires show up one day later(they are in MI and I'm in IL.). They even called me to tell an item was out of stock but would ship me an upgraded part at the same price as the part I ordered so I wouldn't have to wait that's above and beyond if you ask me.

I have been using Pirelli Diablos, but haven't paid more than 120 for a rear and 89 for a front. But I also have yet to buy a tire from the same place twice. I always search several places, many listed above, and others. just do a yahoo search for (insert desired brand and size here) and start at the top. One thing I have noticed, though, is the online places I've ordered from before - and susequently put on their email lists - send me a "monthly deals" email and every once and a while the deal of the month or whatever will be tires.. got my Diablo Strada rear for my Hawk (160/60 17) for $90 and $5 shipping. You just gotta keep looking around. Same thing with installation if you're not going to do it yourself. The local Honda dealership will charge $55 and tell you that it'll be at least a week to two weeks before they get to it. So I take it up to the Suzuki dealership and they charge me $25 and usually have it done same day or next day (I always take the wheel off the bike and just take the wheel in). Good luck though.

I called durby cycles which I believe to be the cheapest around for a front/rear tire combo at under 260.00 bucks.Then I called dennis kirk and then dk called durby to varify the price.DK beat them by 1.00 each tire so I got a f/r combo michelin PR2's for 258.00 shipped to my door.I believe the girl at D/K was to lazy because she didn't charge me shipping.I told D/K that the price durby gave me was to my door.I would do the same if I was you.Shop around for the tires you want and make sure d/k can varify with them the price and they will beat them. 2 bucks is still 2 buckS.Now I can go to happy hour and get a free labatts with the money I just saved :biggrin:

But as stated it depends on the tire your looking for. Even with shipping for a bridgestone and a Metzler M3 they were the cheapest at the time.

This will be my third set of Diablos. I got a little over 4k on the last set with one full trackday (eight sessions and the front still had a lot left but I was leaving for a big trip) and I'm at about 4k on this set and I think I can get another 1k.
I love these tires and they have made me Pirelli fans. Note that I'm on bike that eats tires more than a Viffer.
Anyone tried the Corsa IIIs or Rossos?

I've been waiting & checking their site often for this sale again! I've used up 5 sets of these now, and so far, they're my favorite tire ever. Haven't tried the newer Corsas yet. The mileage on these tires isn't very good, but the performance & feedback is excellent and the price makes up for the mileage.

Told myself I'd do the Michelin PR2 rear/Power front combo next, & still will, but I'm getting a set of these too!! :fing02:

Darn it! That Cycle Gear special is SWEET! I'm replacing tires on my 4th gen, but they are 170 on the rear. I guess the deal won't apply :(

Check your local dealer also. R&S honda here in ABQ sells tires at 1/2 MSPR. They also try and hook you on mount and balence but have I mine put on at Cyclegear.

Have to say that the standard Diablo's are still one of my all time fav tires, for me as well as what Seb said the feedback is incredible from these tires and grip both wet & dry is very good.
The only reasons I'm not still on them are two fold, they don't last very long(think I avg. 1800 miles from a rear) and the front would start to lose it's profile shortly after a rear was wore out and handling would start to fade. Again most people would not have this issue or even feel it, but I do and that's when I found the Pilot Power and I have been on them since. At least the front, now I discovered the Pilot Road 2 for the rear. It has increased my rear tire life by over 50% with no loss of grip, so I run PP/PR 2 sets now. :cool:
Not the cheapest, but the best grip(wet/dry) longest lasting set-up I've ever run in the last 100k miles of rippen twisties! :wub: (*)
Hard to beat the Diablos at $179, but I would have to buy two rears to get the same wear as my PP/PR 2 set and I pay around $270-280 for the PP/PR 2 to my door. :biggrin:
Corsa III's are also great tires, I bought a set for track days and finished them off on the VFR so I have no idea how long they last. Pirelli makes great products for sure!!! :fing02:

(*) I have had a issue with the PP front after about 2000-2500 miles when running a PR 2 rear, for whatever reason the front also starts to lose it's good feedback and the last 500-1000 miles on it are no where near as good/fun as when new. The PP/PR 2 sets wear out at the same rate (3000-3500 miles), but I do lose confidence in the front after about 2/3'rds tread life. Working on that issue now!
