has anyone used the top part of the cbr1000rr triple trees? it is relatively flat all the way across and makes for a ncie surface to mount my renthal MX bar to it. but with enough space for my scotts steering damper.
any thoughts? i was assuming they all had the same offset, but i could be way wrong.

im no putting the whole front end on my bike, im using 954 lower triple and wanting to use a 1000rr upper triple. im only concerned about offset, being as i dont have one handy to measure.

No. The offset on the 1000RR (04-07) is 25mm. For 2008, the offset was increased to 27.5mm.
The fork offset on the 929/954/RC51 is 30mm. For comparison, the offset on the 6th Gen is 40mm.
To mount your Renthals mounted, you'll need to use an RC51-SP1 (00-01) top triple. Or, you can buy a new top triple from Spiegler for an arm and a leg.

Yes, the stem is larger on the SP2.
If you get your hands on an SP2 upper triple, I don't see why you couldn't make a spacer to make up the difference. I think it should work just fine. :goofy:

Ok, time to resurrect this old thread. Does anyone know if CBR 1000RR Forks will fit in CBR 954 Upper and Lower triple clamps? I was having my mechanic swap out the fork bottoms from CBR 1000RR forksto my CBR 954 forks, but he said that they won't fit, as the 1000RR fork tubes are 45mm, and the 954 tubes are 43mm. So I pretty much have all the parts except for good forks now. I don't necessarily want to get a whole new/complete set-up if I don't have to. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

I actually plan on going up ther e this Saturday to see what it's current state is, if I don't hear back from him by then. I'm not really sure what the problem is, as everything should have fit. I'm getting rather frustrated, as the weather has been quite nice, and I am without a ride!!!
It sounds like the problem (as described by your mechanic--I have not checked) is that the later CBR1000RR forks (2008-on) fit a 48mm ID top clamp, whilst all of the other usual Honda USDs (929/954/RC51 SP1) fit a 50mm ID top clamp. So the top tube is narrower at the top than the older CBR1000RR (and the other Honda forks). However, as we now know, the stanchion tubes are all 43mm OD.
So the question is, what have you asked your mechanic to do? He shouldn't be messing with the top of the forks at all, should he? I had thought you had asked him to swap the fork bottoms (presumably so you could get radial brakes)? The fork bottoms attach to the fork stanchions, which are both 43mm OD, so unless the mounting method has changed, and unless the compression adjusters are incompatible, they should be swappable. I had actually considered doing the same thing, to get radials on my RC51 SP1 forks, but after looking at the respective parts decided that the CBR stuff was not of the same quality as the SP1 components.
Ok, I went up to my mechanic's today, and he showed me what was wrong. I ordered CBR 1000RR forks off of ebay, but what I got was Kawasaki or GSXR forks. The outer fork tubes were black, and the fork bottoms were too small for the Honda forks. Sometimes it's really good to go talk to the individual, and see what they're talking about! So now I have to re-order CBR forks, he wasn't wrong, I just got the wrong parts, simple as that...
