I know it's in there somewhere...but can someone clarify for me exactly what functions will be available on the new dashboard???
#2
I am still trying to figure out why they switched the horn and turn signal switches?
#3
New is the gear indicator, not sure what the function is of the two buttons below the dash, one will at least be a reset button for the trip meter, maybe both for adjusting the clock.

I'm sure one will change the gauge from KMH / MPH and C/F deg and the other trip odem/ reset

Thanks for the close-up. Does that mean that it will have a proper trip computer with instant fuel consumption, distance to empty, etc? Gear position indicator (I know it's a neutral light, but does it perform that function as well?)
#6
I'm putting $5 down that the right button changes from air temp to coolant temp and the left one is the trip reset button.

Pay up.

One of the gripes that I have read from reviewers is that it does not have the trip computer/fuel consumption/distance to empty info.

My God, why? Those things are so damn inaccurate in cars, it would be all over the place with a bikes fuel constantly being sloshed, leaned, etc... Can't tell you how many times we've had to rescue people in their Audis with gas, and they're complaining that the computer said they had 20 miles before empty... The gas hand is below empty for God's sake, stop and put gas in it!!! :comp13:

As a side note: the ability to afford a luxury car is in no way a reflection of common (or any other) sense. :goofy:

You owe me $5... the coolant temp is analogue, on le left edge of the right LCD screen... and the air temp is digital in the right lower corner of the same RHS screen...

The gear indicator is where you can see the grey "dash" or hyphen... between the two temp readouts... the dash would be neutral...

What's that switch for in the middle of the triple clamps???

In that dash picture the temp gauge and the engine temp goes off into the plastic surround, I hope it's aligned properly on the real thing

Parallax error!

I like it! I'm glad they kept the tack big and centered (and analog). I never pay any attention to speed, anyway. :goofy:
That one says HISS on it. They bringing that Stateside?

Same here, nothing worse than a horrid LED rev counter. But why didn't Honda adopt the white surround like on the 06+VTECs ... something is telling me Honda are doing that on purpose for a pointless 'upgrade' in a few years time (along with the bigger tank)for extra sales

Ours will probably say "HERS"

I like how the "check engine" light symbol appears to be an old-timey small-block with a pulley-driven fan. I suppose that has indeed developed as an international symbol for "engine," but it's weird on a modern motorcycle, if you think about it.

They should have had a little V4 pictogram.

Maybe a dollar sign would be more appropriate.

Wait wait. The left button is so when you get pulled over you can push it and it'll show what speed you were going minus 10.

Noticed you used the word "thought" in there. :)

Having to operate the indicators with the throttle hand is quite possibly the most ridiculous idea ever thought of, as anyone that's had to endure BMW's execrable switchgear will tell you.

My favorite is the ABS Inop light... you don't want to hit the brakes without first checking to see which ABS mode to use... Mental or Mechanical...
#29
Wish tach was white with orange needle ala 5th gen. Also could have used a volt meter, especially after the weak electrics of the 6th gen.

Let's take 2 CBR1000RRs, one with ABS and one without and we'll do a panic stop in the rain from 100mph. We'll do it twice each, once on each bike. If you can stop faster on the non-ABS one I will buy you a beer.

I guess I'm drinking water... back to the question of whether a rider
can stop more quickly with or without ABS, the point is moot to me in
most cases. The real question is: How much time are you allowing
yourself to stop or slow down? This relates to following distances,
speed in blind corners or any other factor in how much time it would
take you to adjust your speed downward by the necessary amount. It's
a lot like dealing with vehicles that have different braking
capabilities. They're not all created equal. If you alternate
between riding a 450lb VFR and a 610lb VFR you'd better leave more
cushion when you're on the heavier one. You set your speed and
following distances appropriately.
#32
What VFR is 450 lbs? Oh you must mean your obsolete RC45.

All I know is every test I've read with PROFESSIONAL riders the ABS bike wins EVERY TIME! If they can't stop faster on a non-ABS bike, then I don't have a shot in hell... :comp13:

BSL, I gotta hand it to you man. You have got to have the thickest skin of any human being on the interwebz, I see you on about 4-5 different forums getting the lunch stomped out of you and you never give up. You give a whole new meaning to the phrase "love is blind".

ABS isn't for helping out with those situations. It's for the ones where you DO set your speed, distance, and riding style correctly, and somebody STILL manages to catch you out, AND you just hit a patch of diesel, or gravel, or whatever else slimey spooge is on the road surface you didn't see even though you were looking.

If that saves my own ass just once, ABS is worth every penny, and every gram.

I'm human... I don't have any thicker skin that anyone one else... I
just treat everyone the same on the net as I do in person... I keep a
happy heart... I multiply the positive and divide the negative... let
them fling poo... I'll fling back information with a smile...

Whos blind??? Mr.Honda's race bred V4s are not obsolete... the RC30 /
RC45 are still the standard that others aspired too... if anything is
obsolete its the big ponderous V2 and the old cammy hit I4... two
engine architectures that are no longer a part of Honda's race plans
whereas V4 still is... lets not forget that one of the purposes of the
expensive exotic RC45 was to sell cheap pedestrian I4s... and a lot of
buyers were fooled into thinking the CBR Motor of Death was just as
good as a true race bred V4... but if you are every lucky enough to
test hop both... you'll understand the difference by the only meter
that matters... the seat of your pants...

yeah, love the rc30/45. I'm seriously looking at the RSV4-R, mainly coz honda isn;t building a sports V4.

But if I could find some mexican guy who didn't know the value of the RC45 he was selling then.... :) :fing02: :goofy:

I really enjoy reading most of your posts, but to argue against the benefits of an ABS system on a street bike is just silly. :3:

Honda's maybe "competing" with Aprilia. That's the one thing that I frequently get wrong between the 2 bikes. The horn and turn signal switch positions are reversed. No I didn't mean to honk, I was trying to signal a turn.
