First off, I'm fine, just some minor scrapes, light bruising, and a whole lot of sore muscles.
Came over a slight hill on a road I ride every day to/from work only to be met by a buck running down the road with me. Before I could grasp what was going on he turned hard left and slammed into the right side of the nose of the bike. Send me tumbling down the street while the bike just slid, and slid, and slid. The damage is not all THAT severe, all things considered, but due to the age of the bike and the price of replacement plastics, the insurance company totaled it. Here's a couple photos:
I haven't been around here all that much lately, but I wanted to come back and thank everyone who's helped me keep her running over the last 3 years. I had a great time with that bike, even on the few occasions when she left me stranded in the middle of nowhere with a smoking R/R. You guys are all great, and this whole site is a wonderful wealth of information.
The silver lining to slamming into a deer at 45mph? Progressive is giving me enough to buy an early 6th gen and still have enough left over to farkle with! :beer: I've got my eyes on a few different VTEC bikes in the area, let's just hope whichever one I get doesn't bring with it the electrical demons that the '98 had. :happy:
Hey, that bike is in much better shape than my bike when I got it and it only cost me like 400 bucks to get it back on the road. What does the company say about buying it back?

I could keep it for a little over half of what they'll give me if I don't. I REALLY like that bike, but she's got some persistent electrical gremlins, and I don't really have the space or time to put a lot of work into getting her back on the road. If things on my end were a bit different I'd be a lot more willing to keep it, but as it stands it makes more sense for me to move on and let them do whatever they're going to do with her.
of course this is your business and I have no platform to talk from, but as a suggestion, you could buy it back (my guess is for 2000 bucks) and offer it for sale here for 1 or 2 hundred more. I am almost certain you will sell it in a new york minute, and you get 200 hundred bones for free.
If I were anywhere near texas, I'd give you 22 for it tomorrow.
anyway, the main though is that you are not hurt and anyway it goes, enjoy the new one and dont forget to give a comparison.
I've already looked to see how far San Marcos is from Kansas City. It would be tempting to hop in the pick-up and go get it.....Shoot me a PM if you don't want to put $$ figures out for everyone to see, but I might be interested.

You're in the ballpark. I get what you're saying and I don't mind it being said. Frankly having sold 2 bikes in the past, out here, it's a PITA sometimes. Right now it's one that I just don't want to have to put up with, and since they're going to give me a pretty decent sum for it then letting them have it is worthwhile to me. However a post with what Hondalover posted changes the game a little. We'll have to see how it unfolds in the next couple of days.
As for the buck... There was a witness who saw the whole thing from a bicycle going the other direction. First thing I asked him when I realized I could move and nothing seemed to be broken was "Where the **** did that ****ing deer go!?" He told me that it just kept running across the road and into the woods. Neither of us think he was hurt. There's no blood or hair or anything on the bike, and I'm pretty sure he came up and basically headbutted the nose. I know humans can be at a disadvantage against an angry buck during rutting season, but I'd think a 500lb bike would help even it out! Guess not. :dry:

Trinith, hate to see your bike in that condition but better it than you. I just got through reading about a 2000 model that tore a deer in half down in the hillcountry but didn't look so good.

That bike has your name all over it. The flat black is even peeking through already in anticipation of your touch.
Glad you came out of it well, thats #2 NFR Hooligan bike to hit a deer in the last 2 months. Ethan killed a 6 point buck with his....to bad the bike landed on him and broke his shoulder.
He decided on a 2010 CBR 100RR for the replacement, I'm breaking it in for him now :cheerleader: :cheerleader: :cheerleader:

I want to build a track only 5th gen so I had a momentary impulse to ask about the bike but Texas and my current underemployment won't allow that yet. I'd turn any interested party on to the insurance company. They'll give them a better deal and you can just name a finders fee from the successful buyer. Unless someone sends you cash sight unseen I would'nt commit to repurchase it your self.
Deer season is open right now. Seeing hunters in the hills where I ride dirt bikes lately.
