There's an ad I read. It states:

I'd like to see the documents supporting that it can be bored out that big. Something about having a lot of custom motor work done without a premium price hints fake.

even if i could be bored over that much i would imagine it now has some serious overheating issues

You would need to bore the cylinders to 85.4mm (a 13.4mm increase) to make this work. I'm calling B.S. on this one. If it's true I'd love to see how it was done.

Even someone like me, with no mechanical skills whatsoever, is wondering why Mother Honda didn't do it if it seemed possible with that motor!!!   :unsure: I, too, call bs on this one!!!! :angry: Sooooo, why is he missing the front fender again?

So "undertail kit" is code for "I cut the fender"????

Bored out probably means a big gaping hole from a crash, or has his front fender vanished from when he was waxing the bike :biggrin:

#1 Previously the ads section in the the fourms had to be deleted manually - the classifieds section is specifically built for them and is timed automatically all ads = use the classifides section.

#2 A few years back a member posted a link to an ebay ad that was not his, several vfrd members contacted this guy after he already sold the thing for months after, cause well I did not know about it and then I get a nasty gram from him complaining to stop the emails! So no ads that are not yours! PERIOD its in the rules...

So.....how much CAN you bore a say...800 fifth gen motor?  And are there a makers of oversize pistons or do you have to get them made by a custom guy?  Just curious, not really in need of more displacement, but in a maybe 20-30 thousand more miles, my 65k motor may be in need of new insides, and more displacement couldn't hurt, could it? (while you're in there...)

Just guessing, but probably somewhere in the range of 40-80cc total. But I doubt that your engine will ever need new internals. Unless you're running the bike on sewer water.

The big bore kits for the vfr750s are 840cc and the ones for 800s are 870cc

TTS makes the piston kits IIRC.

quite possible. i know of 3 V max that have been bored to over 1800 cc   right into the water jackets.... pressed in new sleeves :huh:

As for the original post, 1100 cc's?  That's an increase of over 40%.  No way.

I have another explanation for this low price: as some people have pointed out, it is possible that this inexperienced mechanic has (over) bored the original motor to get to 1100, but the motor may heat up, which would require a new motor, hence the low price. Does this make any sense?   :goofy:

Dynamo Humm from Canada used to offer the 870 kit, Not sure who made the pistons, I think it was JE.

It would boost the VFR's output from 100 HP to 120 HP at the rear wheel.

I don't think you can get them anymore.

120 rwhp also seems a little high.

Every dyno chart I've seen for a stock 5th gen. VFR has rwhp between 97-99.  At 99 rwhp, that's .12676 hp per cc (using 781 as the denominator).

Applying this ratio to 870 cc's would yield 110 rwhp.  If somebody got 120, they must have been running catless headers, aftermarket exhaust cans, a freer flowing air filter and a PC3.

I still say 870 cc's is too much.  Big bore kits typically increase displacement about 8%.  At 8%, this would bump displacement to 843 cc's.

I couldn't remember at first, but 840 for the 750 and 870 for the 800 sounds right.
Just who would pay for an overbore kit and keep the original cat con, muffler, air filter, and not bother with a PC?
Back to the original "1100" I just wonder if he bought it as an overbore 1100 or if he's trying to pull one over?

I agree with you.  The stock headers and exhaust cans would choke the engine.  What I was doing was comparing apples to apples.

The problem with a big bore kit is it requires the engine to be completely disassembled.  For optimum performance, you'd also have to do other things, too (port and polish the heads, for example.)  You're looking at BIG BUCKS (not to mention finding someone capable of doing the job right.)  This is precisely why I've been saying for years that you're better off buying a bike that can do what you want it to do instead of turning a bike into something it isn't.

So I have rented an ultralight and will be flying down to view this one off piece of VFR history in the making before some squid buys this jewel to stunt.

he who procrastinates loses and I just missed out on a 911 when in Nuke school in the Navy and this dentist's wife was selling her husbands car because he had run off to Barbados with his hygeniest and asked her to sell the car and send him half the money..car was worth $25,000 and she was asking $3k....i missed it by maybe twenty minutes so that is why I am renting an ultralight for this trip to FL to get this most awesomest VFR eeeeevvvvvvaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh instead of driving down.

some of have caused me to think about the potential cooling issues mentioned in this thread so I am working on a total loss NOS system just to cool this 1100cc beast...more to follow in Gen 5.5 tech article...

5th gen has catless headers on the first two years. Aftermarket exhausts are almost the norm now for the 5th gens I've seen. Freer flowing airfilter is anything other than stock. PC3 would be a requirement for having engine work if you wanted it to actually work.

And your math for HP. It doesn't work like that. Well, it might, if you assumed that the bore and stroke ratio remained the same. Since you're increasing the bore, you are mostly increasing HP. So 120 HP still sounds reasonable.
