I haven't spent much time on VFRD lately. I'm down to one 5th gen from the two I had a few years ago. I also bought a few Moto Guzzi's, and have been doing most of my riding on them. But now I find myself back riding the VFR more and more. I still like the Guzzi's, but they just aren't as versatile and as dependable as the interceptor. I do lots of long distance touring with my wife, and our Moto Guzzi Norge has been great for that purpose. However, I just don't have as much confidence in the reliability of the Norge as I do in the VFR; it's also not as much fun in the twisties.
Before we bought the Norge, we took a few week-long 2-up rides on the VFR, equipped with a Givi topcase and soft saddlebags. The system never worked out well in terms of seating comfort for the passenger. I want to improve the 2-up touring capabilities of the VFR by buying some basic but effective side cases. 30L volume for each case would be fine, but the main consideration would be 2-up comfort. We are not large people; combined weight of 270 lbs.
Any suggestions? What has worked well for you?
BTW, I have read that the GIVI side-case mounting hardware requires prior mounting of the topcase hardware, which I obviously have on my VFR.
There are two racks, PL161 and FZ/PL 257. Both by Givi. The 161 is for side cases only and was discontinued because the two sides weren't tied together and, overloaded, they failed. Givi makes a linking piece that strengthens the setup and that's what I use with givi 21 l sidecases. I could use big 45 l if desired. I *believe* the FZ257 is for the top case and that is the rack you likely have. As you probably know, Twisted Throttle offers PL257 side racks for that toprack -- http://www.twistedth...terceptor-98-01 In your place, that's what I'd use.
I have the E45's on my wingrack II and like it. I don't have the link bar, but plan on making one for it, as it does make a huge difference. My passenger hasn't found that they get in the way and actually prefers them on. Maybe just makes her feel safer.
I use a pair of Pelican 1550s mounted to the giving side rackwith an e52 givi on the back. It's relatively inexpensive and the pelicans are indestructible, making them great as crash guards. This setup is also quite narrow compared to e35s and such with almost the same capacity.
On long two-up trips, I strap a pair of dry bags to the pelicans which works great for camping gear.

I have used the crap out of my Givi cases this summer -- great capacity, waterproof (tested numerous times) and sturdy enough for the excessive amount of gear I stuff into them. Best of all they come off and carry/flip open like regular luggage. I believe these are called the E360's? Not quite big enough for a full face helmet, though.

Only issue is that the 52 liter top case is a bit too wide for the two dry bags so I use a third bag instead if it.
Are you using the Givi PL257 side rack kit in this pic ? It looks like your aftermarket muffler is a bit smaller in diameter than stock, You think there is enough clearance for the stock muffler? thanks
I got a full three case WingRack on my '99 with the same side cases as jaydj above, and one of the big 'ens for the top case. Probably an E45 like Yoshi's. Definitely fits my X Twelve, and more importantly my overnight bag for work. Which is why it's on my ST1300 now.
Actually I found that they kill my gas mileage and I went 3000 miles over 9 days to NY from GA and back with only a large tank bag and a tail bag. :idea3:
Travis (Y2kVFR) does have a high mount with GIVI's on his. Took some slight modifications, not too bad, iirc. I believe he wrote it up here, so a search may reveal his posting.

I've run a high mount with the older Givi tubular rack, modified, can post pics if needed.

The E360's will fit a full face helmet, I use mine all the time. BUT, what are the details on your bicycle mount?? Looking to do something similar.
