Spent the last week on the road, ended up in West Lebanon, NH for the VFR based, We Don't Give A Hoot rally.

In the hotel parking lot Friday night:

Cool! Congrats on the milestone.

Woot! Congrats! That is a nice feather in the cap. The bike still looks good, too. Nice work!

Nice!  That's some serious riding.   Well done.

#5

I just put 1/10th of that on my 6 Gen! Hoping to get at least that amount someday.

Cheers!

#6

Congrats!  Lots of great memories on that bike for sure.  Although I have a 6th gen, I've always been partial to the 4th gens.

#7

That's impressive. Used to have a 4th gen and loved the thing. Sold it. Wonder where it is now?

#9

NACA's are the best!

apart from parts that wear (tires, brakes etc) did you have to replace anything engine wise?  Still got the oem brake lines?

#10

Congrats

How about a list of things that you replaced and some maintenance you did to keep it going strong.

Thanks

#11

Congrats... that's a real milestone... pun intended!

#12

I love seeing my generation viffer climb the mileage ladder like that. Congrats!

#13

I  gotta  ask  what  kind  of  oil  did  you  use ?  Just  kiddin.   Great  up kept.

Other than regular tune ups/valve adjustments, nothing was done to the engine.

Major maintenance items:

clutch plates and springs at 100k - I should have only done the springs.

water pump at 100 and 170k

stator at 160 or 170k

r/rs at 80, 90, 160*

brake rotors at 100 and 180k

All four vacuum pistons (carb diaphragms). Just done, the carbs still need sorted out, I've got high rpm fueling issues.

chain/sprockets at approximately 33, 48, 60, 100, 150, 185k

I proactively replaced the exhaust plumbing at 175k - didn't want to be on the road with a leak/crack from pitting/age.

Lots of suspension work,

Lots and lots of tires and pads

* the last go round with the r/rs wasn't the r/r's fault. The replacement at 160 wasn't really needed, the stator was the issue, but it failed soon due to connectors melting, so the one I put on at 90 is back on there going strong)

ss brake lines were put on early

I'm leaving this morning for a week of work in MD, so I'll follow up with more maintenance details when I get a chance to sit down with my records.

Only 160K out of a VFR stator? Hope you didn't replace it with the OEM crap!

Nice work on the miles and good luck going forward. Wish I had kept my 4th gen street fighter. It was a peach. The only VFR The Girl liked to ride.

Excellent.  West Leb is only a few minutes from my humble abode.  Rode through there this morning 0430am.  Congrats on the miles.  And all the riding to get to 200k.

So a member since 2009 with only 30 odd posts and over 200k miles...should be a lesson to all of us that have more posts than the miles we ride in a month...

Congrats on your mileage...I'm assuming no accidents in all those miles as well?

#19

nice!  i rescued a barely ridden 95 eariler this summer with 5500 miles.  po said "your gonna put some miles on her, aren't you?" I replied "yep!" low mileage bikes are so over rated...lol.  tried selling (almost giving it away imho) my 06 with only 73k on the clock.  all i heard was too many miles when i was thinking,  it's a honda and is barely broken in. guess i have a little v4 collection started in my garage!

life is good!

i agree but it is sure hard to put some miles on the bike when sitting in a cube all day.  wonder how many miles riding in my chair cruzin vfrd?  :goofy:

I hear ya man...I've got a fairly sweet government job now, but the 65 hours a week (counting my 200 mile per day commute), 5 days a week is killing my riding time!

EDIT:  before anyone says it, no it's not worth commuting on the bike...straight flat, boring roads that do nothing but wear out tires and oil...

It was great to see it turn over in the parking lot at the Fireside.  Something you don't see that often in bikes, if at all.  Original owner, you've owned other bikes as well--so all the miles weren't on the VFR...you deserve at least a piece of cake!

Think on that one folks--man rides his bike for fun and some commuting...

Put another 1600 mile this weekend on mine and it is now up to 78K...but it will be quite a while  before I make it to 200K if at all!

Go for 300K Greg!

Thanks Matt.

Just to clarify, during the same time I logged about 32k on an 03 SV650N and 3K on a 2000 KLR650. If that bike had been easier on my wrist, I'd still be shy of the 200k mark. :tour:

Thanks all for the good vibes.

To the earlier question, I've had no accidents while moving on it. Soft asphault accounted for a tip over to the left, and the rain boot slipping off the centerstand tang acounted for a nap on it's right side.

Great milestone, congrats!

High mileage usually deducts from the value but I think at a certain point (like 200k!) that would just be cool to own even if they weren't all your miles. Your value just went UP!

That's an interesting log on chain life - low of about 12k and another at 15k, a high of about 50k and other at 40k.  Is there anything that you might attribute that to . . . brand, maintenance practices, rain, adjustment, etc or luck of the draw?  Just curious . . .

Just curious, did you use oem or some aftermarket system?

No luck of the draw at all. You get what you pay for.

The 2 short lived ones were due to getting chain/sprocket combinations. Decent quality chains (RK I think) but piece of shite cheap steel sprockets. It's not that I didn't learn the lesson with the first set, but it's rapid demise occurred while I was in Alaska (on my long trip) and the only reasonably quick fix was to order another chain sprocket combo.

Since then I've always used OEM sprockets and DID x ring chains. The 50K (actually 52K) was the top line DID chain. The next time around the price difference between it and the next down (vm vs vmx2 or some such mix of designators) was close to a hundred dollars, more than the mileage gain was worth.

A Scott Oiler really helps if you're not conscientious about lubing your chain.

Aftermarket - Delkavic I think (as mentioned earlier, I'm away from home and my maintenance records this week).

Still using the stock muffler. I had a Yosh slip on for about 30k, but its packing wore out and I still haven't gotten around to repacking it.

Care to make an offer? :warranty:

200 K and counting - way to go!  That's why we own Hondas.  I've owned five of 'em, beginning with a 125cc CB 92 Benly that I regularly flogged on Highway 1 in Marin County back in the dark ages.  Ended up burning valves due to running straight megaphones, but It survived and thankfully, so did I.

Megaphones  your  neighbors  hated  you.

Kept the rpms low until I got out of town.  Hard to do with only 15 hp!

Congratulations. That is truly an accomplishment.

I love these kind of threads. Bike just keeps going and going and going and going.....

That is fabulous. My 5th gen was half-way there when she ate a deer. A premature death for sure.
