Frame Sliders For 8Th Gen

What are your opinions on the frame sliders available for the 8th gen?  Have you installed them? I hope not, but have you had to use them?  Please share any info you may have. TIA

Not sure that helps but I bought the ebay costly frame sliders.

I've only seen R&G ones

From T-REX, seems to be a US company. At least they shipped from the US.

They are indeed, in Texas. As it happens I also ordered these a few days ago but they've not arrived yet, not surprisingly. More expensive than R&Gs but no 28mm holes needed in the side fairings either.

I too have the T-Rex installed. (Pricey) Definitely sturdy I hope I never have to test them. Fit and finish was spot on. A few picks; you don't have to strip the bike this naked to install I was installing my center stand (Amazing how much I had to dismantle the bike for 1 bolt)

I have the R&G frame slider..you have to cut the fairing making a 20 mm hole
i have also mounted the front ale slider by R&G

the frame on the 6 gen has a slightly different bolt pattern i take it? thus the t-rex wouldn't fit?

They make cut and no-cut sliders for 6th gens too. I think the plastics are the difference.

I  did install my TREX frame sliders today.

THey don't look sturdy they are really sturdy.

Mounting was a piece a cake. Only challenge was to remove the fairing..

I actually didn't remove fully the fairing. I just unscrewed all screws and that's all.

I did take a bit late. It was too dark to take reasonnable pics. Will do that tomorrow.

It took me a little more than 1 hour.  I didn't remove the fairing fully. I do think that it could be much faster if you are used to remove the fairing.

I rode the bike today and I must say that those sliders are not as well designed as I expected.

The spacers for the bracket are too long. Due to that,  the boots hit the bracket when I change gear or when I brake... not as happy with that product as I expected...

I may get used to that... I'll see and report.

THis design issue is really a pitty because that product is really of rather good quality.

I´ve fitted the GSG sliders. No need to cut the fairing. Nice finish. Greetings Jens

The base plate is bolted to the frame. There`s a adapter brace bolted to the base plate. This adapter fits into the vent of the side fairing an can be easily removed (f.e. to remove the fairing). The base plate remains bolted to the frame. The adapter is for energy absorption. Bolted to the adapter is a slider which can be easily removed and renewed in case of a minor damage. See pics.

I don't know if the 8th Gen is different in different countries or not but in the USA, the TREX install and works beautifully with zero shift issues.  My fiancé and I both have the Gen 8 VFR800 with the TREX sliders and have never experienced any shift issues.

For me, your statement is rather strange.

Do you manage to grad and fold easily the side stand when you are on the bike ?

Could you confirm that your shin does not hit the slider bracket when trying to up-shift ?

My shin shoot the braket at the very location where you put something which may be an electric cable. Prevent from shifting properly where i wear boots, and is pretty painful when I don't.

How tall are you ? I'm 6'1"

I'm 5'8 and have no problem.  The cable is for my heated vest, kind of cold these days.

update from T-REX.

They did some re-design of the kit. They are going to ship one set today.

I should receive the sliders within, say, 1 week...

Got around to fitting mine today and can report that I don't find the same problem that sdouble has posted about above. However, as you can see in the pic there's not a great deal of clearance between leg and bracket but at 5'10" I'm 3" shorter than he is and if my legs were longer and my knees further forward my shin might well be in contact like his.

As you see, to keep the winter at bay I've also painted the bolt heads with black metal paint before installing and used Pro-Bolt's black alloy socket cap covers to tidy things up a bit.

Hopefully I won't be testing them.  :wacko:

For sdouble - I rode it in to work this morning, boot does occasionally make contact with bracket as I'm moving about but not when changing up or down. I think the bolts I have were exactly the same but I added these...

Received today the re-designed frame sliders from T-REX.

Basicaly, the spacer are much shorter and the main part (L-shaped bracket) is strongly modified

I'll get that mounted this week end but at first glance, that new design seems to me much more clever.

So they've taken the corner off the puck mount and removed the front section from the back plate? I assume the slider bolts now come from the inside as those bolts can't be seen in your pictures? They certainly look sleeker but I'm not sure how much of an improvement it will be, seeing as the thing your leg makes contact with is the rear corner of the back plate which has to be pretty much in the same place, lined up with the upper bolt. I suppose the sliders have to stick out the same distance to get outside the fairing. Still, if not having the front bolt means the plate doesn't need so much clearance and the spacers can be shorter bringing the corner further in, it might make a difference. Let us know!

Club Racer. You get those new version sliders mounted yet? I would love to see some pictures of how far they stick out versus the old style and get your opinion on if they really are better or not.

No mounting instructions. Obviously they bolt differently than the previous version.

Didn't find a proper way to mount the new sliders onto the bracket.

waiting for an update from T-Rex

I recently installed these and like them for the most part. Only issue I run into is that my shin will hit the bracket when I down shift if my foot is too far forward on the peg. I'm getting used to positioning my foot correctly but if the bracket was slightly forward I probably wouldn't have any issue.

Funny story... I received quicly a new set of sliders... But, they obviously mount differently...

I've been asking for mounting instruction for weeks... no answer....

strange company...

T-rex here, pics in gallery.  Hard to really tell they're there, but would rather have them than not.  Preferred not cutting the fairings, too.  

They do bump my shins every so often but you get used to having them there and can accommodate. :)  I'm 6' FWIW.

Looks like the GSG ones from Germany are the better option.

They have distributors in the USA too.

I have the T-Rex sliders and yes i used them and they performed as advertised. Kept most of the weight off my leg, yes i hung on during the slide.

I have no issues with the shifter with my T-Rex sliders on my 14 VFR 800

did you get any instruction for mounting them properly ?

There are no instructions I asked them and they said they would have to get the engineers onto it, so there are none.
It's not too hard. You can see from pics the 2 bolts to use. Take out one at a time then choose the T. rex bolt that with the spacer is the same length. It's not too hard to figure out which bolt and spacer goes where. Then do them up to the same tightness. No need to cut or remove fairings. They seem very solid and a nice fit.
