I'm just discovering how much better my 5th Gen runs on pure gas vs. ethanol. I can feel the difference in power when accelerating hard. It is truly noticeable. My gas mileage is also about 5-10 percent better. Unfortunately, it is somewhat difficult to find in Indiana, but not impossible. I'm going to invest in some larger gas containers so I can have a supply without riding the bike 20 miles away just for pure gas. Has anyone else had similar experiences? It is a shame we have to deal with ethanol in the US. It is a big scam.

Get something like this. They are pricey, but pure gas doesn't go bad nearly as fast as ethanol. You'll at least have pure gas on the way out of home base.

Rickers has an ethanol free station in Westfield IN. Not sure if you have Rickers by you IG, but I have been as ecstatic as you are running ethanol free gas in my VFRs. they are HAPPY
Check out http://www.pure-gas.org/ to find a station near you. I'm lucky to have a couple close by but you pay at least a 10% premium over regular here in Ontario.
Another benefit is that if the fuel sits for any length of time, there's less likelihood of having water in the fuel - no ethanol to phase-separate out and sink to the bottom as water. The puregas site isn't particularly easy to use (a map based format would be better IMO), but it sure is useful!

Chased a poor idle problem and off idle acceleration problem on my 4th gen. for months. cleaned carbs, pilot screw adjust, sync carbs, changed spark plugs, and checked valve clearance no change. Saw a ethanol free pump at a station and said why not, tried it. Wow!! like magic idle smooth as glass no more problems. told my friend with a VMAX same results wont run anything else. Hate when I'm traveling and can't find a station near me.

I put real gas in mine when I can and it transforms the performance. It everyone used real gas (if it were available) there would be fewer calls for a liter engine. It makes that much difference. Makes it GO when rolling on the throttle. Damned corn welfare!!
Ethanol use came from the "Renewable Fuel Standard Program" passed in 2005. https://www.epa.gov/renewable-fuel-standard-program It doesn't look to be going away any time soon. I'm actually amazed that the non-ethanol variety is even available.
I have a station in my neighborhood that sells the ethanol-free in a mid-grade octane formula (priced same as normal premium).
I use it when filling up the VFR for that last tank before winter season, but after carefully charting my mileage performance with this, vs regular unleaded, and vs premium, I don't see any statistical performance difference.
Can't run it in my CBR, or the Italian Job. Octane is too low.
A few years ago, I was amazed and pleased to find an ethanol-free source here in Hawaii that were not in the traditional locations: the marinas and boat yards.
That one source had a little sign identifying it as being for lawn-mowers and boat engines.
Later, another gas station started selling it with full-blown advertising about using it for all the reasons we know to be true (water, engine seal damage, etc...).
It's still not ubiquitous, but more sources exist.
What's ironic is that Hawaii jumped on the ethanol wagon very early in the game.
They had visions of using sugar cane to produce the ethanol, since sugar beets had replaced cane as the cheapest source for sugar production and lower labor costs in other locations left the Hawaii cane industry all but abandoned.
Their vision would resurrect the cane farms, bringing new jobs and investment to the state.
So they passed legislation in 2006 that mandated all Hawaii gas using at least 10% ethanol.
As usually happens in Hawaii, the legislature forgot to check with reality.
Growing sugar cane was now a small tourist/agricultural research industry and didn't have the capacity to supply anything for ethanol production.
No one born in the last 3 or 4 decades were interested in returning to the bad old days of laboring in the cane fields for The Company.
Much of the land formerly used to grow cane has been developed for housing and resort areas.
They ended up having to import ethanol to satisfy their own mandate.
Last year, they finally passed legislation repealing the mandate.

Ethanol is a welfare program for farmers in simple language. I know a large Iowa farmer and he doesn't hesitate to say he is a government welfare recipient in the form of being paid to not plant and being paid to plant depending on the governments whim at the time. We could feed the entire world but no, let's put the crap in our fuel when, for the first time in a long time, this country is oil and gas self-sufficient. We don't need OPEC any longer but we still buy from them. Vote for leadership, not apologies and give aways. When will the insanity stop? I'm afraid I know the answer. Reject radical people with agendas who don't work hard for a living or don't work at all. That's who is screwing up this country. They can't even ride a VFR.
Bent, you are 100 % correct, Ethanol is crony capitalism or government picking losers (no winners) at the highest level. Ted Cruz gained some respect from me when he was the only candidate to reject the ethanol mandates during the Iowa primaries, and still came out the winner.

Ethanol is actually a higher octane. E-85 is like 110. I use pure gas in all my lawn equipment and dirt bikes.

Agree, alcohol is higher octane but less BTU's per unit of measure than gasoline. My VFR manual says to use 86 or higher octane. All of my VFR's have run better on regular gas than premium. Even better on regular pure gasoline. FWIW.
I really would like for this to be true, but haven't been able to measure any difference. In the absence of supporting data, all we have is opinion. Opinion is not data.

For anyone who's interested, Ravenna Oil on West Lake St. in Ravenna, OH, has pure gas available. It's a bit pricier than normal 87 unleaded everywhere else, maybe 10% more per gallon, but I treat my VFR to a fill-up there once in awhile.
EDITED: I drove by that station in Ravenna last night. I was wrong about the price. It's 90 octane and at the moment it's $1 more per gallon than the normal 87 fuel everyone else sells. Also, that station has limited hours, just in case anyone is in the area and wants to stop there for a fill-up of the good stuff.
All E0 does for me is make my wallet 30% lighter per tank and a negligible 1-2 mpg
