How many motorcycles have you owned?

Well as I have had quit a few lately, I started to count what motorcycles I have had.... Guess I´m ahed of many but suppose same have had more.

I have had, since I started riding motorcycles in 1988, a 125cc to begin whit, I have had 38 different motorcycles! Currently I own 7 of witch 2 I have not ridden one meter whit..... That`s street motorcycles

I have had 18 dirt bikes to....

Of my street motorcycles (including plated dualsports)I have owned some has been projects I never finished and sold on complete or as parts, so never ridden them, 9 in total, the one I owned for longest period is 8 years and that`s my first VFR750F 1987 model, shortest owership has been a few months... of the 38 motorcycles 15 has been Honda, 13 Yamaha, 5 Suzuki, 4 Kawasaki and 1 BMW. 4 motorcycles have been 2 stroke, 2 125cc and 2 250cc. Then there is 2 I have not counted in as mine, even I ridden them as cared of them like mine as they where in former wife`s name.....

The 18 dirt bikes, one has been a parts donor, the rest I have used, some has been plated (as possible here) some prue MX models, 8 KTM, 4 Honda, 2 Kawasaki, 2 Yamaha, 1 Suzuki as 1 Husqvarna, and 2 of them was 4 stroke, the rest 2 strokes!

Some I miss? Yes a few!

1. the 1995 Honda Africa Twin that I had to sale to get money as I did divorce former wife....

2. the 1990 Yamaha FZR600, a project I never finished, sold for same reason as AT

3. the 1986 Yamaha IT200S, a dirtbike that was plated, did a full mechanical restoration on it did run wonderfully, sold for same reason as the 2 above.....

4. the 1996 Honda CR250R, really nice MX bike I sold to cheap to get fund to buy a 4 stroke KTM dirt bike for son.....

5. the 1985 VF500FII I bought from Holland whit help of Dutchy! I should have had patience to sort it out, it was a candy!

In order of appearance: 

'87 ZX600: Got it in '98 partial trade for a '72 Mazda B1600 with a Ford 2.6 V6 swap. Sold it in '09 after I finished the bodywork/paint.

'93 GTS1000. Got in early '09. Crashed it on the track 10/09.

'98 VFR800. CA model. Rode the shit out of it. Multiple long trips, and track days. Eventually retired at 80K due to cracked heads. It had gotten too hot too many times.

'97 VFR750 track bike project bought from a member here. Never finished, and sold with:

'94 VFR750. Bought in 4/'14 as something to ride while I fixed the broken gears in the '98 trans. Had 125K on it when I bought it. Rebuilt the carbs, and the Yoshi muffler. Rode it to Colorado. Zero issues though I did eventually replace the R/R with FH020HH. Sold it with 136K.

'99 VFR800 CA model used to be my girl's bike. She decided it was too much for her to handle anymore. I knew it's history, and had installed all the fancy suspension bits.

'99 VFR800 48 state model. Bought from a Navy guy in San Diego off this site. Had some goodies on it that got transferred to the above bike. Some goodies from the '98 got transferred to this bike.

I kicked off riding in 1982 with a new CB125T, my dad agreed to pay for half so he could limit me to 125cc.

I had other ideas and sold it about 6 months later when he was overseas and bought a CB250RS single, then followed that with a new CB400NC, a second hand CBX400F and then in 84 a new VF500F, which was my first V4. I traded that on a new CBX750F because I obviously needed more power, but sold that when I went back to Uni and bought a VF400F instead. I took a second hand VF750F for an evening "test ride" and crashed that doing stupid stuff and had to buy it, and fixed it up back to new(ish). The camchains and tensioners crapped out and as a poor student I decided that was not to be repeated so I traded on another new VF400F.  In 87 our local importers offered surplus US-spec VFR700Fs for cheap so I bought one and then another about 12 months later. I was young and foolish and hated it when the new wore off...

I bought a new VFR400 NC24 in 89 and kept that for about a couple of years then traded it in 91 for second hand 86 VFR750F. In 96 I needed something new (again) so bought a Suzuki RF900R and kept that all the way through to 2014 due to the arrival of kids. That's one of them on the back below...

In 2014 I bought a well-used and well-loved 99 VFR800, then somehow caught MBD and had to buy a VTR1000F because it was too cheap on the local auction site. In 2016 I did that again and bought a dead 1990 ST1100 and nurtured that back to health and long rides. 2018 my wife thought she wanted to get into scooter riding so we bought a new Vespa 150 Sprint, the feeling passed and she never followed through. In 2019 I fancied a bigger better ST so sold the ST1100 and VFR and bought a 2009 ST1300. In 2020 I fancied another project and bought a terrible wreck of a SilverWing scooter and bodged that back to health and half decent visuals, and sold the Vespa.

Then my best mates got fancy new wheels (Tuono V4 and Z-H2) in 2021 so to keep up I sold the ST1300 and bought a 2017 Yamaha MT10SP which I still have. I also sold on the SilverWing and the VTR1000 at that time. Later that year I missed my Vespa and bought another 150. Then it was project time again so I bought another 86 VFR750F and nursed that back to proper condition, and sold it on in 22 to fund the purchase of my second 99 VFR800, which I still own. Later that year I decided I needed another tourer and bought another ST1300, which I still own.

March last year I decided I needed more Vespa so I sold the 150 and bought a 2020 GTS300 Supertech, which I just sold a couple of weeks back. In July I spotted another "its too cheap" bikes and bought a 2009 VFR800, which I still own. I just bought another project bike, a 2015 VFR1200F which was an insurance write-off but seems to be solid under the scratches. For those paying attention, the 1200 will be my 27th bike owned, and my current fleet is the two 800's, the ST1300, MT-10 and now the VFR. Amazingly, I am still married to my original wife! While depreciation is a terrible thing when you are the first owner, buying and selling used bikes hasn't been financially burdensome at all.

My list is short:

1986 VF-500F red/white/blue, bought new

1986 FZ-750 red/white/blue, bought used around 1990 after someone turned left in front of me on the 500.

2004 VFR800 Italian red, may she rest in pieces.  Lowside into a concrete barrier at ludicrous speed.

2008 VFR800 sword silver (dark grey metallic), still have it

2007 VFR800 Anniversary R/W/B, still have it

There were pics of all of these on VFRD years ago. No clue if any still exist here.

I'm a V-4 addict, though I did enjoy the bigger FZ after having the little 500. Sold it to help pay bills when my first kid was born. 

There's also a TTR-90 in the garage but my kids are grown now.  I've got get it running again for the grandkids.

I think I have only sold 4 bikes?   So...   ~45.

I can get to a dozen, but only if the rules allow my two mini-bikes. One powered by a Tecumseh lawn mower engine, the next a Hodaka 100!    :happy:

Just picked this up a couple weeks ago and still in the brake-in period. '24 Multistrada V4S, 1158cc, 170hp, 91 lb-ft, counter-rotating crank, claimed wet weight without fuel 509 lb, so about 550 lb fully fueled. Front and rear radar, adaptive cruise control and blind spot warning, all can be turned off. 4 riding modes, same as the '15 and up, electronic suspension. Valve check intervals are 37K miles. It just feels more refined than the '20 1260 twin I had before, less raw and feels lighter. And unlike the last one doesn't randomly stall out when you pull in the clutch.

OK, kinda off topic, but...even if you're familiar with terms like PABATCO or Super Rat you might not recognize the bike below. Believe it or not I raced it as a 12-year-old on Friday nights at a 1/4 mile short track in Alstead NH.

I'd say I've had somewhere in the region of 35 bikes over the past 35-years.

Notable good ones, Yamaha Thundercat, Kawasaki Ninja and Versys 1000 and the Triumph Explorer 1200 I have had for a couple of years.

The one I don't miss is the Suzuki GS500.  Awful bike in every way.

There are six in the garage today (bottom of list), but the total over my lifeime? 33 off the top of my XLS. 

OK, my list, which will be much easier than those above since there are only, I'm pretty sure, 11.

-Mini bike--manufacturer long forgotten. Pull start, centrifugal clutch, curved steel plate that rubbed the rear tire, which the manufacturer called a "brake." The most incredible thing I had ever owned in my life up to that point.

-Bonanza mini bike, photo in previous post. 10hp! An inch of front suspension! My introduction to two-stokes.

-Suzuki TS250. Eight months working the fryers at KFC got me a NEW street legal bike at 15. Put 42 miles on it in my dad's parking lot until I turned 16 and got my permit.

-Honda 350 Scrambler. Since I was both young and dumb I was its final owner. Sort of ran for six months.

-Suzuki GS400. Still young and dumb I didn't notice that the forks did.not.move. until I got it home. But I got that resolved and had four great years until the kid that stole it crashed it beyond repair.

-1985 VF700 tariff bike, purchased new in 1986. My one and only bike for 16 years. Kids, mortgage, job...but some incredible trips through New England and the mid-Atlantic.

-2002 6th gen. When you go 16 years between VFR's the new one seems like a revelation!

-2010 7th gen. So different but just a great motorcycle. That motor! Those brakes!

-2003 RC-51 SP-2. I own two bikes at the same time. Whee! Many great track days as well as a memorable 1000 mile weekend in the Sierra with fellow VFRD members.

-2017 Ducati Multistrada S. Still in the garage, sport touring perfection for what I do. A great travel bike that can also really charge.

-2026 Aprilia Tuono 660 Factory. 400lbs! So far it's the perfect replacement for the RC-51--lighter, 100hp, rational seating position.

I may change my mind tomorrow, and I've never owned a 5th gen, but I think my favorite is the 2002 VFR800. Despite a pretty disastrous R/R failure in 2009 (I wasn't so young then, but was still dumb) it's at the top of my list.

anywhere was good... across the Bay Bridge it didn't matter...

just racing at 60 mph was enough of a challenge out of
8HP... it helped to have a tail wind...

poor on landings... taking 3 bounces to settled down...

cottage... our Land Lady wasn't happy with bike parts inside her spot
less rental... so I used  the lamp shade over the frame trick to hide
the fact I was building a  motorcycle... never the less she swore I
was a member of the Hells Angel...

1970... Kawasaki 350 BigHorn... I was asked to perform movie stunt
work for a Air Force Now film but after my wheelie crash the USAF
enlistment board denied my request for enlistment based on their
initial perception that I had "no personal concern for my safety"...
My film director had to set the record straight...

The balance of the camera to one side combined with the weight of the
battery belt around my waist was really strange but I was determined to get
some footage of the front wheel getting air and landing the
jumps... the quicker I rode the more excitement I became  into the riding

Honda factory worker who must have pilfered some extra parts... I
recall that  the Japanese government turned me down 5 times for a
street legal license  plate... So I raced the CR in the black sands of

painted the wheels School Bus yellow and installed a Honda fairing and
tail cowl... It was deemed the Circus Wheeled Kawasaki by the Honda
factory  workers at the Saitama Honda Plant they christened the frame
with a sticker  "Made by Honda Motors LTD"...

1981... While stationed in Wichita Kansas I ordered a new GPz550 from
East Side Honda... 3 days later I was off for a 1500 mile round trip
to New York and back... next summer I rode home to California and
back... I got  the 3 spoke magnesium Dymags direct from Harris
Performance while on a TDY  to England courtesy of the USAF...

1986... XC400 Husqvarna... another Husky I made into a street legal
dirt bike... I mainly rode Little Sahara State Park... the Park
Rangers would check  for your steel whip antenna and orange flag at
the entrance... I didn't mind  the flag but steel whip antenna would
give my helmet a nasty whack every  time I stopped... it got so that
I'd jettisoned the antenna and then ride out of  sight from the
rangers patrolling in their dune buggies...

1984... 84 VF500F Interceptor... my first love affair with the V4
begins...

Well I got to tell you, I have read the story of the RC45 find and the bike life of member ( Busy little shop ) many times and it still puts a smile on my face

What a life centered about motorcycles and to find an RC45 collecting dust in Mexico is just wild. When I read about the RC45 having the very low serial numbers and started thinking about the bikes I have had and their production numbers, I was never below 000010 but it was sure funny looking for 0001. As I read the article I was instantly taken back to around 1996 when I was working about 2 hours from home, in those days I was always driving the back roads looking for the shine of chrome in the open garage door or stopping into every small bike shop I could find. One day I stopped at this little backyard garage to ask if he had any interesting bikes for sale, I roamed around a bit and here off to the side was a banged up 1990 VFR750.

 I always wanted a VFR750 since a demo day with Honda in 1990. I almost fell over when I saw the serial number was 0001, to say I held my excitement would be a lie, of course I asked if the VFR was for sale and got the old, well not sure, it is here for repairs etc etc. I left the shop with the understanding that I was to drop back in a week and he would know more.

A week later I made a special trip to the shop and of course the VFR was gone and the shop owner would not tell me where the bike went, who owned it or anything. I was almost sick from missing that one, and in the past 30 years I have never found old #1. The RC45 article was just like being in that little shop again and I can still see that beautiful banged up VFR sitting there, Thanks for the memory flash

As a side note I think I should add that the 1990 Honda VFR750 #1 I found was no where's near as rare as the RC45 found in Mexico, I believe the RC45 had a very low production run which I think was world wide, the 1990 VFR750 #1 I found however was a Canadian bike and I believe their production run started with 0001 and the United States started with their own 0001, Europe Asia etc all had Honda Production runs starting with 0001, due to the different DOT rules and laws, correct me if I am wrong

rental... she never gave up the notion that I would move the bike
outside and  make room for kids inside... little did she understand
that some of us like  motorcycles better...

1979... While stationed in Japan I bought a CR250R Honda direct from a
Honda factory worker who must have pilfered some extra parts... I
recall that  the Japanese government turned me down 5 times for a
street legal license  plate... So I raced the CR in the black sands of
Fuji MX park...

1981... I'll never forget meeting Hirotoshi Honda #1 son of Soichiro

1980... Z400FX Kawasaki... Japanese 4 unique to the home market... I
painted the wheels School Bus yellow and installed a Honda fairing and
tail cowl... It was deemed the Circus Wheeled Kawasaki by the Honda
factory  workers at the Saitama Honda Plant they christened the frame
with a sticker  "Made by Honda Motors LTD"...

1981... While stationed in Wichita Kansas I ordered a new GPz550 from
East Side Honda... 3 days later I was off for a 1500 mile round trip
to New York and back... next summer I rode home to California and
back... I got  the 3 spoke magnesium Dymags direct from Harris
Performance while on a TDY  to England courtesy of the USAF...

1986... XC400 Husqvarna... another Husky I made into a street legal
dirt bike... I mainly rode Little Sahara State Park... the Park
Rangers would check  for your steel whip antenna and orange flag at
the entrance... I didn't mind  the flag but steel whip antenna would
give my helmet a nasty whack every  time I stopped... it got so that
I'd jettisoned the antenna and then ride out of  sight from the
rangers patrolling in their dune buggies...

1984... 84 VF500F Interceptor... my first love affair with the V4
begins...

1988... 86 VF500F Interceptor from Golden Gate Cycles... I engineered
this into famous Belt-0-Ceptor... I racked up 98,000 trouble free miles...
