Serious accident, Monday afternoon. On my way up the mountain for lunch and I recall (very vaguely) seeing a truck on my side of the road. Next thing I remember is looking up and seeing my upper leg at an angle that God hadn't designed it to be. Helicopter ride to trauma centre and 6 hour operation to screw and plate kneecap, pin and rod in femur, pin in hip, screw and plate in radius, right arm and setting of broken wrist, all successful.
No internal injuries, no spinal/neck injuries.
LONG recuperation ahead and a certain end to my 37 year adventure on two wheels.
LESSON? ATGATT.

#5
let us know if you need anything while you are on the mend. :fing02:
#6
No body bag....no foul! :fing02:

Best of luck with your recovery and don't make any hasty decisions about riding till your in better shape!

Glad you're not any worse, I don't know what the laws are in OZ, but if you can get hold of some "legal" medical pot, that's the best stuff for getting a good nights sleep while you're in recovery. I gone though a few operations for different parts of my body(6 times)... and all those heavy duty hospital drugs don't do squat. And a good nights sleep is the best thing you can do..... Good luck on your recovery.... Sorry to hear about your run in........

Holy Crap! I'll let the OzVFR boys know in case there is something we can do to help.

Thanks guys. When you mix a bike and a cement truck, the truck is always going to win. Thanks, too for letting the ozvfr boys know. I haven't been able to log in there for some reason. FWIW, I'm in St George Hospital in Kogarah. 3West Room 8, bed 1 (not that I'm lonely or anything)

glad you are alive, heel up quick and asd complete as possible :fing02:

Crikey mate - I'm really sorry to read your post but sooooo thankful that you're still drawing breath!

I've really enjoyed reading some of your musings about your 'career' on two wheels (in your website) and I can't believe it'll all end here!!!

Clearly, it's all up to you and your loved ones but you know what they say ... never say never!

So....

.... you killed another VFR?... lucky you are alive or we'd have to kill you ya bastard!

.. anything you need? let me know

 Glad you're still alive and I hope you will fully recover.

I am reminded of the scene in The Princess Bride when Buttercup is about to kill herself and Westley says, "There is shortage of perfect breasts in the world, it would be a shame to damage yours." I do seem to hve depleted the supply of 4th Gens a bit, haven't I?
Mate, I'm so grateful to all my friends for their prayers and support. If any of the lads are nearby, I'd sure appreciate a visit.

Man, if I weren't halfway around the world I'd certainly swing by and see you! Glad you made it out breathing and with your wits still about you! I know this is no consolation, but as Neil Peart said in Ghost Rider: "If something bad happens on my bike, I just don't want it to be my fault!" (paraphrasing) - sounds like this one was certainly not your doing!

Here's to a speedy recovery - and I like Monk's solution to getting a good night's sleep - hell, even if you don't sleep you'd probably be able to laugh about it

And if you're bored just find a cute nurse to harass - it's a rare opportunity to say exactly what you want to say and be able to blame it on 'the meds' - maybe some fun for you to pass the hours...

No good at all mate. Just want to wish you all the best with your recovery. Take it easy and mend quickly !!!
Best wishes,

Best wishes mate. Do your best to put any regrets far from your mind and focus on the healing! Take one day at a time and make the best of it. Now is your opportunity to become the "post ho" you always wanted to be... :goofy:
#18
WOW! Glad you are still with us and posting. Heal quickly and as said before....don't give up on the riding yet!

EXPOSED!!! Now I know the secret to your mellow and measured demeanor!

Sorry to hear, but that you're still alive! Get well and best wishes on a recovery. Maybe you should think about getting a 5 or 6 gen VFR.

Ouch! Well, if you're going to do something do it right!

Glad you made it out of that one alive. Now rest easy and get well. I tried to give up riding after I got hit once but it only lasted a whole month. Either way do what you feel is right for you. :fing02:

I am so sorry to hear about your crash. last thing anyone wants to hear about! glad you will recover. take care.
#26
So glad you'll be OK!
And you realize, of course, that a crash is the PERFECT excuse for starting a whole new love affair with a new bike! Oh, and new gear, and going broke with mods, and sending pictures to VFRD, and...
(Worked for me.)
#27
Cement truck eh... yep, that a mis match! Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
#28
[hi there matey ,best wishes for a speedy recovery, and no you cant borrow my 4th gen.

Very sorry to hear about your crash. Glad you cheated death and are lucid and intact and recoverying. No hurry to get back in the saddle. I took several years off riding when I totalled my CBX. I dig the Aussie understatement but I feel your pain and can use some of your meds to alleviate it. Kidding. Let us know if you need anything.

Glad you made it! Maybe this will cheer you up a bit.

There's the sad story of the poor guy who was in a terrible motorcycle accident. When he came out from under the anaesthetic, the doctor was leaning over him anxiously.

"Son," he said, "I've got some good news and some bad news.

"The bad news is that your were in a very serious accident, and I'm afraid we had to amputate both your feet just above the ankle."

"Jesus," gasped the patient. "What's the good news?"

"The fellow in the next bed over will give you a good price for your boots."

Remember, the glass is always half full!
