hi guys im new to this site :) been told to come over and share my lil project i have on the go by sebspeed on a different forum im on

this is my bike ive been working on since christmas, i know some people are gonna flame me for what ive done but its my bike and now completely unique to anyone else :D so im REAL happy with it so far.

if anyone has any questions ask away and i'll try and help out fellow v4'ers wherever i can

LET ME BRING YOU UP TO SPEED

wasnt actually planning on fightering this lil bargain but an unwated mating experience with a 4x4 has meant this bike is getting a winter makeover :D

bought it as a work hack off of ebay for next to nothing as it need downpipes and putting back together. The idiot who listed it called it a 1996 honda blue?? lol luckily i saw it went and had a look the day he put it on the as he said it all worked and was all there, an he only wanted £250 to end early. went and checked it over all looked fine couldnt hear it running so i took a punt and said £180 and miraculously he said YES!! :party-smiley:

here it is as i got it

[image: 39326_10150243568990274_880775273_14147083_8142925_n.jpg]

after i put all the clothes back on

[image: 40307_10150250710465274_880775273_14366060_619870_n.jpg]

and after mating with the back of a 4x4

[image: 63470_10150354003985274_880775273_16334752_5373035_n.jpg]

was gonna put it back to normal but then i thought screw it im gonna do a project i can complete :fu:

compulsory date pics

[image: 166152_10150359357130274_880775273_16460091_6291050_n.jpg]

[image: 168380_10150359357365274_880775273_16460096_4331514_n.jpg]

took all the broken sh*t off of the front, and dismantled my other project for parts :D

got a 98 r1 front end with 94 gsxr750 triples and clip ons, k1 gsxr1000 subframe and seat unit with a 05 zx6r underseat exhaust. undecided on wat to do with the front yet but it is going to be a front fairing off a sportbike modified to tie it all together, but too many choices

[image: 167382_10150359357630274_880775273_16460102_606424_n.jpg]

WOOHOO time for a big update :D with of course loads more pics

started by taking all the clothes off :), such an ugly beast when its naked!

[image: 164788_10150360266245274_880775273_16476496_5440367_n.jpg]

[image: 168620_10150360266590274_880775273_16476507_4926812_n.jpg]

swapped over the subframes and by a lil miracle the gixxer subframe fitted and only need a 2" metal bracket for the top mounts, easy, done and dusted looks much better, especially with that exhaust tucked up and there

[image: 167518_10150360266965274_880775273_16476517_2039380_n.jpg]

speak of the devil, a rear shot!!

[image: 166510_10150360267335274_880775273_16476529_4782852_n.jpg]

now all that was on decided to tackle the forks

[image: 165175_10150360267685274_880775273_16476535_4264617_n.jpg]

holy bent forks batman, dint realise they were as bent as they were, been riding on them for 3 days, oh well.....

wanna see some magic, then look down. look a magical floating vfr OOOOOOOOOO AAAAAAHHHHHHHH ;)

[image: 165008_10150360268510274_880775273_16476551_8178519_n.jpg]

the bike that lost its lifeline for the time being, looking very sorry for itself :( oh well it'll be worth it when im riding on the viffer (no longer viffer sofa) listening to that killer exhaust note

[image: 163222_10150360268960274_880775273_16476563_3416488_n.jpg]

a better pic of the nice golden r1 front end to be hammered on tomo , got some good condition bluespot calipers as well :D

[image: 167312_10150360269550274_880775273_16476580_8227219_n.jpg]

a closeup of the lower triples, how much meatier the gixxer set is! gonna look soo much better.

and hopefully the stems look like a pretty close match width wise, so hopefully a simple swap *fingers crossed!!*

[image: 167549_10150360269850274_880775273_16476589_7792033_n.jpg]

[image: 167690_10150360269995274_880775273_16476592_6620673_n.jpg]

well thats all for today you bunch of beautiful people ;) haha i kid kid!

hopefully tomo will see another good update!!:

#3

someones been D'ing W! lol

lots more pics but better daytime ones :D

i managed to get the steering stems pressed out. but wasnt that lucky, the stems were 0.2mm different at the bottom so i got some weld layed down around it and gonna get a mate to machine it down to a press fit in the gixxer triples.

first pic is of the stainless battery try i made, everything has a place just all need to be stuck down on it

[image: 166408_10150362914320274_880775273_16540731_2716532_n.jpg]

from the outside it definately looks a hell of a lot neater than the vfr mess!!

[image: 168330_10150362914140274_880775273_16540727_4931991_n.jpg]

a close up on how the exhaust is mounted, welded in a couple of ally tabs between the subframe rails

[image: 163999_10150362913895274_880775273_16540720_7547189_n.jpg]

you get the idea! just needs tidying under there for sure

[image: 168569_10150362913735274_880775273_16540713_5244470_n.jpg]

a nice ass if i dare say so myself, just need to midify the linkpipe to tuck in a bit tighter

[image: 167625_10150362913550274_880775273_16540707_2810452_n.jpg]

not sure if i like it with the belypan, if i do keep it on there its gonna need some cutting to look right. just have to see when i get the gixxer front fairing :D

got the front forks roughly fitted just sow i can move it around until i get the stem machined down.

[image: 165356_10150362913170274_880775273_16540696_6103252_n.jpg]

how it looks without the bellypan need thoughts on this guys what shall i do??

[image: 165746_10150362913005274_880775273_16540691_4724767_n.jpg]

and its gotta be done. a shot to show the seating position :letsride:......... i wish

[image: 164583_10150362913310274_880775273_16540699_8050572_n.jpg]

gotta take the stem and triples to a mate on wednesday and hopefully by the weekend it'll be done and ready to fit the forks proper!! excited much? and fingers crossed i have a headlight a rear fairing and a seat maybe even a front fairing all arriving mid week WOO HOOO

#4

got another one for you gents!!

if you havnt seen the discussion thread heres the paint i'll hopefully be using

[image: 165247_10150363740215274_880775273_16562853_4640854_n.jpg]

with some of this over the top

[image: 166276_10150363740370274_880775273_16562856_6195830_n.jpg]

still confused about the wheel colour needs to be bright, im thinking yellow, orange or gold maybe???

started having a play with the exhaust today :D

had a link pipe made up to fit on the gixxer so i used that and of course in true fighter fashion............... cut it up :LolLolLolLol:

[image: 35625_10150363951755274_880775273_16567838_8107303_n.jpg]

[image: 162726_10150363951995274_880775273_16567841_6507051_n.jpg]

it looks really neat from the side and the back as ive tucked it in close to the footpeg. its basically ready for welding apart from one more cut :party-smiley:

cant wait to get it all plumbed in an have a lil listen :D

tidied up a few of the wiring connectors and tucked them behind the frame and started taking off all the fairing brackets

and unfortuantely thats all she wrote for today people, another day closer to recieving the last of my parts tho WHOOP!!!

#5

today i come bearing the gift of noise!! (sorry nothing else other than that :(

[video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/enB_WcjvUWw?feature=oembed]

heres a video clip of the laser exhaust mocked up on the bike  gotta say i love it!

im nearly ready to start welding up the link pipe just a tiny bit more work to get it to fit properly!

whoo been busy doing work so time for an update me thinks!

my front fairing arrived but sadly still waiting on the headlight :( so cant mount it till that arrives!!!

[image: 163424_10150369624610274_880775273_16680948_1053346_n.jpg]

[image: 166213_10150369625255274_880775273_16680968_1109049_n.jpg]

it needs to be a lil lower and maybe a bit further back so im gonna have to alter the viffer fairing bracket :D

also in the post got a lovely big late pressie from fat santa................ i mean Fat-tony71 :D

[image: 166230_10150371479090274_880775273_16719111_1928844_n.jpg]

big rep needs to go out to this guy! he's a top bloke!!

my jigsaw puzzle of a link pipe i finally figured out what needs to go where WHOO!

[image: 166614_10150371478635274_880775273_16719096_5244395_n.jpg]

so got it all welded together at work and is ready to be put on the bike after a bit of cleaning up

[image: 168520_10150371479335274_880775273_16719120_1276254_n.jpg]

YOU LIKE??? lol

only about my 4th time welding so i dont think i did too bad

[image: 167308_10150371479550274_880775273_16719130_7929043_n.jpg]

[image: 163784_10150371479750274_880775273_16719134_6725507_n.jpg]

no pics of this but ive also cut my fuel pump lined down so that nows fits neatly under the seat in my battery box :D so im definately happy with that!

some of you might of already heard these but heres some sound clips for you as well! turn your speakers up for sure!!

till next time guys! which hopefully wont be another 3 days

#6

I'm very interested in this. I like what you have done. Any more detailed pictures of the front end upgrade would be great as that is one of the things I am looking to do.

#7

Same forks I used, I just used RC51 SP1 triples.

Larry

VFRrider

#8

Welcome to the other side of the moon... lol

Wait till you guys see the finished product, I think you'll like it.

#9

hi what sort of pics / info did you want?

thanks Seb lol gonna post more of the build tomo!

#10

Was the triple etc a straight bolt on? Pics of any sort of mods needed to be made.

That may be a moot point as I found an entire front end off an f4i for $250 usd. Wheel, rotors, tire, calipers, forks, upper and lower triples and possibly the master cylinder too.......

neatens it up a treat!

got my headlight and fairing in the right position by cutting up and welding the fairing brace and also modified the seat unit to hug the tank

[image: 251284_10150661216575274_880775273_19224679_6132979_n.jpg]

coming along nicely. I like what I see. Are you going to let us in on how you extended the rear fairing to meet up with the tank? I'm presuming you canibalized the vfr rear fairings in part.

#14

i like what i see, nice work on the pipes and seat alteration. wish i had access to a welder to make some pipes for myself. will be watching this post to see the final result. Nice work and about time a Brit got in on the action of mods. Good luck

#15

hi guys thanks for the comments and the compliments

as for the rear fairing it was a pain in the a$$ but well worth it, yes i had to cut the end off of the vfr fairings to hug the tank. i could of made a mould and done it that way but i couldnt be bothered! lol its coming along nice a bit more filler and some 3m sticky pads and it will be done. had to plasyic weld the cut up bits onto it after trying to make them symetrical lol.

as for the pipes that was another total pain with one person! welder was at where i worked so i had to try and hold it in place, mark it up and take it to work to weld it, worst bit was knowing if it was slightly out then it would not of fitted lol but thank god it came together good! just needs prettying up :) the seat was pretty easy just kept cutting lil bits off and kept trialling the fit till it was near perfect then some nice ebay vinyl and a cheap b&q staple gun and voila!

ya we definately need more brits doing this sh** to their bike but then mine wont be so unique lol soo maybe not to many!

heres the next instalment guys ENJOY!

"went for a speedfighter approach so took a dive and bought the side panels, suprisingly easy to get them fitted!

[image: 249161_10150616139390274_880775273_18703459_6486933_n.jpg]

next to my other toy! :D

[image: 250139_10150616139835274_880775273_18703466_661569_n.jpg]

[image: 226645_10150618050070274_880775273_18717375_3753352_n.jpg]

but with this came a different problem entirely :(

the rear wheel looked soooooooo smal and out of place............

[image: 225408_10150616139605274_880775273_18703461_273899_n.jpg]

so conquered this by doing my homework :)

a couple of ebay purchases later! and i was half way there lol

[image: 260475_10150654705405274_880775273_19147627_1145947_n.jpg]"

more to follow tomo guys let me know what you think, gotta be more people on this vfr forum with some opinions!! lol

till tomorrow.................... HAPPY READING :)

#16

Few questions for you. But first, I like what you have done with the gixxer fairing.

How is the clearance?

Where are you mounting the rear lights for it to be A; legal and B; pass an MOT?

Will lights affect the new wheel (size wise) depending on position?

and what about the potential for the new wheel and rubber to hit the under-seat pipes?

Body work are you going to fab a piece to fit the gap from the rear sub-frame to the current seat fairing?

#17

hi, thankyou

what clearance do you mean sorry?

the rear lights are already in place would you believe lol. I've drilled holes in the tip of the gixxer fairing and pushed through some red led's :-) I'll get a picture tomo for you.

the new wheel is in place already and theres about an inch between tire and link pipe so its just right. only has a 180 tire at mo but will run a 190 next.

sorry im a bit confused about what you mean with the rear fairing

Dan

#18

Wow, great job. You are really showing off your skills. The part I'm most impressed about is how you Have Suzuki, Honda and Yamaha all working together well on one bike. With the new rear wheel and hub (Ducati?) that'll make 4 manufacturers on one bike. Nice job. Find something Kawasaki to throw on it and you'll have the big four covered!

#19

thanks smackdoogle. really makes all the hard work and hours worth it now im starting to see it all come together :-) an it means alot all the compliments as I've done it all myself with basic tools and no real training or experience.

funny you should say that as the exhaust is a 05 kwak zx6r exhaust lol and the rear wheel assembly is triumph parts from a Dayton t595.

so I've got Honda suzuki yamaha kawasaki and triumph so far :-P

im thinkin of calling it a Bitsa-ViXXer when its done and painted :-)

#20

Please tell me a respray is in the works, right? :comp13:

#21

Kawhonyamzuki?

Honyamzukawi?

Suzkawhonyammy?

Yamahonsuzkaw?

:comp13:

#22

... i can only see like 10% of the pics!!! :computer-noworky: :computer-noworky:

DarkKnight

... i can only see like 10% of the pics!!! :computer-noworky: :computer-noworky:

go do a windows update and probably, you will need to update your version of Java. Oracle.com I believe. If it's linux, you will have to find an rpm to download and untar....sorry, back to the bike.

#25

Looks awesome! Love following your progress..i love the way it looked with fighter belly pan and no side fairings. I think that way,it,was a beautiful mix of sport bike and streetfighter...but my opinion is biased because i love streetfighters. Keep up the great work and originality!

#26

cheers fella's

YES a respray is definately in order dont worry lol gonna be doing that myself as well and no not in rattle cans!

i did like it without the side fairings but just couldnt get it looking complete, with just the headlight fairing always looked like it was missing summin........................

but who knows ive got a new front fairing so i may modify the blue one when its done as its faired state so i could run faired or just the front nose-cone :lobby: we'll see

but i think its about time for the next update / instalment of the story :cheerleader:

"spot the difference?

[image: 254520_10150657258915274_880775273_19172499_6937418_n.jpg]

so i got to d'ing work!!! was a lil cramped to say the least as my bike shed is full of sh** and parts im selling off to fund my next project........ YES IT WILL BE NAKED AND A 2 STROKE :D

[image: 249704_10150657258285274_880775273_19172491_4213006_n.jpg]

got all the spindle and hub on

[image: 263881_10150657259350274_880775273_19172504_8342463_n.jpg]

then onto the wheel! :D heres the clearance....... had loads of room with the 180 tire so next time i do a tire change a 190 is in order :knucks:

[image: 253636_10150657260415274_880775273_19172521_6969730_n.jpg]

it may be a tiny bit off centre, i havnt checked yet but im already riding it and it feels GREAT! no handling issue, just made it better and more stable...........

[image: 263441_10150657260605274_880775273_19172524_1044769_n.jpg]

^^MUCH BETTER!!^^

from the side and a nice fat rear shot!

Wow mate you have done so much in so little time, some others doing modifications around here could take note :)

#32

Awesome what you've showed us so far. Can't wait to see the finish. But I do think my favorite update so far was the Mr Big Swig Bottle!

#33

Looks great, is the wheel from a 955 as well?

Keep up the good work, if you go without the side panels I vote for no bellypan, or at least not the VFR one, looks much too big

#34

were a dieing breed in the UK :-) lol

bike has been under transformation since Christmas but keep adding different ideas lol just gotta get the bodywork done then i can get it ready for painting! the most important part.........

i fell in love with the big swig as soon as i saw it lol

ya the hub and spline and wheel is all triumph Daytona t595.

i think im definitely gonna make it so i can run it either fully faired AND not, get the best of both worlds then

Can you detail what exactly was involved with fitting the Triumph bits? Pics other than the ones already posted?

Hi canuck, ya certainly i can do that what sort of pictures would like and i'll try and get them

heres a pic of all the triumph bits i used except the caliper holder...............

[image: 260475_10150654705405274_880775273_19147627_1145947_n.jpg]

the vfr caliper holder needs a slight mod of drilling the two mount holes further down to sit the caliper on the disc fully but other than that its a straight swap out and i would say theres enuff room for a 190 tire on the rim as well :)

it handles a dream now especially with the cbr shock! i love it!

next up is making it all look factory, reapairing some bodywork and a headlight swap to bi xenon projectors, then onto the paint at some point..................CANT WAIT

#37

LONG OVERDUE UPDATE, sorry my internet had stopped working for a few days.............. BUT im back with LOADS to show for it!! its a big one guys...............an with loadsa piccy's!!

and now for the obligatory arty photo's lol

what do you lot think, even if it has got fairings! lol

my last update to do which brings me up to date to where it currently sits.......

made my own headlight cover from about £3 worth of perspex from good old friend ebay...

removed the headlight

then shove the perspex in the oven for a good few mins till it went really soft and flexible

take it out using glove and lay it over the headlight and push it over the curves to take its shape

heres all the tools i used, a heat gun, oven, cold water spray, andgle grinder and gloves

[image: 253766_10150658948540274_880775273_19194346_5106579_n.jpg]

half way there

[image: 260589_10150658948925274_880775273_19194359_8272525_n.jpg]

fully trimmed down with an angle grinder and a thick grinding disc (DO IT SLOWLY!!) then sanded it 400 grit

[image: 263733_10150658949380274_880775273_19194370_5873865_n.jpg]

then a quick splash of rattle can black till the bike is painted properly.........

[image: 263164_10150658949960274_880775273_19194382_6224323_n.jpg]

and what it looks like on the bike :D

[image: 262081_10150658950390274_880775273_19194395_6645901_n.jpg]

am i happy? too right i am! lol first time ive ever tried it and hadnt even read about it being done and it come out as good as a £20 cover for only £3! cant be bad at all!

so there you go guys an gals thats where my v4 speedfighter sits right now. LETS HEAR WHAT YA GOTTA SAY??

next on the agenda is 2 bi-xenon projector lights with halo/angel eyes :D

F**kinell that looks great!

How's your chain alignment? Did you just stuff the Trumpet bits in there or did you add spacers or anything?

cheers for the compliments mate means alot' date=' as ive done it all myself in a tiny shed with basic tools :D

chain alignment looks spot on. with regards to parts, i used the whole t595 daytona hub-spline/spindle including the adjuster and sprocket carrier and no spacers its came together real easy, you can use the original vfr cush drive/sprocket carrier and adjuster too but the trumpet one was cleaner with better bearings.

you gotta use the vfr caliper holder and caliper and i gotta modify the caliper holder a tiny bit so the caliper fits onto the disc fully........but other than that its golden!!

and the handling is great really alot more stable, i had chicken strips on the 5" 170 and now with the 6" 180 im off the edge of the tire already :D

thankyou guys for all the compliments was really expecting to get flamed! but just couldnt get the look i want, but rest assured the kettle will be fully nekkid!

my aim is to show as lil vfr off as possible lol

i got my next piece of the puzzle in the post today so i cant wait for weekend!!!!! :letsride:

[image: 255656_10150663300430274_880775273_19248507_343188_n.jpg]

funny thing is the way the fairings are mounted (angles etc) if you park it next to the same year gixxer, they look really goofy and not aggressive at all haha

if anyone wants any close up pics of anything give us a shout and i'll help any way i can!

and remember i have parts for sale in my other thread to fund the kettle :D lol

#38

next update for you guys! :D

had some time to get my shock fitted, turned out to be a pain in the ass lol but was worth it :)

i'll let the pics do the talking!

how my garden looked half way through! lol what a bomsite...........

[image: 270239_10150667478165274_880775273_19289039_8368473_n.jpg]

hope you like!

been hard at working repairing body panels and trying to make the side panels match the frame :D will let the pics do most of the talking!!

first job on the list was to finally! relocate my oil cooler out from under my front fairing.....

[image: 264754_10150708796170274_880775273_19661089_8037960_n.jpg]

MUCH BETTER!!

yes my downpipes will be getting replaced! :LolLolLolLol:

now for a picture of my TIDY workspace ;)

[image: 282480_10150708797480274_880775273_19661108_1178643_n.jpg]

DAM the bike looks good naked lol but oh well, gonna hopefully modify the blue fairing so i can run it half naked OR fully faired :)

got my side panel brackets made out of some ally strips, not pretty but you cant see them and they work perfect, and whilst it was apart and cut off the oil cooler bracket from the headlight bracket and gave it a lick of satin black...............

[image: 263842_10150708799070274_880775273_19661123_7741920_n.jpg]

[image: 267709_10150708803225274_880775273_19661202_5754950_n.jpg]

and again yes the screen screws will be replaced :LolLolLolLol: they were just there at the time........... :)

got a nice new toy to help me out hugely with my bodywork!

[image: 263047_10150708800030274_880775273_19661141_690545_n.jpg]

next on the list was to make the side fairings look like they were meant for the bike and fit the shape of the frame better!

BEFORE

AFTER!........

[image: 270422_10150712548420274_880775273_19716161_5380475_n.jpg]

bit of fillering an it'll be good for primer

got the right side done in the same way :D

[image: 270524_10150712548690274_880775273_19716165_4908770_n.jpg]

[image: 268460_10150712548890274_880775273_19716169_5640772_n.jpg]

just a lil more trimming on the right side and it will match perfectly.......... next i gotta complete the fillering and make up some infills for the front fairing

gave the oil cooler and brackets a splash of satin black so now that blends in alot better!

[image: 285426_10150712548195274_880775273_19716157_638644_n.jpg]

thats it for now guys! let me know what your thoughts are!

just ordered a gazebo to use as a pop up paint tent, got my parts for the compressor so thats now working and gonna order a dash but i havnt got a clue which one to use! :( need some opinions guys! around the £80-£180 mark maximum

so what ya gotta say!!??

and that my vfr friends!.............. BRINGS US UP TO DATE :cheerleader: told you it was a long one lol but happy reading!

Good work

I've been really happy with my '98 CBR gauges, should be pretty easy to find. You'll need a speedohealer though, and a CBR temp gauge, but the rest just wires right in

Like what you did with the oil cooler, did you just use some hose clamps on the original stuff?

Hey matt. cheers for reply about clocks, the only problem i have is a VERY DISTINCT lack of space! Where im using gsxr parts i can only fit quite small gauges like a cbr1000rr for example but there real pricey. ive found a nice koso gauge for 85 but ideally didnt want to run a magnet setup but oh well needs must.

For the oil lines, i just cut off the rubber line, cut it to right length and clamped it over the barbed bit :-)........ easy as pie and neatens it up sooooo much. but i think i have a lil oil weep as my line is very rusty and i need to find another one.

Looking good! So what comes next? When will the respray come to bring it all together?

Scott in Penfield NY

#42

Bloody great work there mate. You are pretty resourceful and the bike looks 'right'.

#43

Just a work of warning were you have located your oil cooler, rocks are your enemy & there going to slam into that oil cooler so you might want to think about some protection like alloy mesh as armor.

#44

cheers for the compliments!

as for the respray, ive got my gazebo on the way and it'll be ready for primer very soon! as in a matter of weeks (just gotta finish the filler work etc) then ive gotta get the paint and im good to go..................... :cheerleader: im so excited to paint it lol I CANT WAIT!

im definately gonna make a cover for my oil cooler, just gonna get a sheet of strong mesh and paint it black, nice an easy!

HERES A TASTER FOR THE PAINT COLOURS AND A ROUGH DESIGN! (it wont be as bright and fake looking as this but you get the idea! The black will be slightly different and will have blue metal flake over just the black) lid is getting the paint treatment as well :fing02:

im really glad with how its coming along now and thankfully starting to look like less of a bodge!!!!

At first glance I thought it was gonna look like a beast created by a hack, but I was wrong. Looks damn good, in fact, I even like the primer! If it were me, I'd probably leave it as is. Nice job, mate.

it did look like that at one point lol just alot of HARDWORK later its finally looking like a together bike :fing02: im really happy with how the fairings are fitted now as well!

i kinda like the primer but cant wait to get it painted now

hey seb cheers for the pics im probably gonna do a test piece first but hopefully it'll be more subtle (if thats possible with large flake lol) as i dont want loads on black on it just a nice design to break the blue up a bit.................

got my dash through this morning as well! was really quick only ordered it saturday eve, the quality looks awesome! and was cheap compared to the trailtech vapours and the like, so im impressed with it! is very compact as well lol (small)

cheers for the compliments as well makes the hard work worth it when people can appreciate it :)

The bike looks awesome :fing02:

As for the Koso mounting, you really don't have to use the magnets, at least I think so.

I used a speed sensor from a VFR800 with my Koso RX1. I had to hack the wire of the Koso's magnetic pick up and splice it to the VFR pulse sensor but that wasn't a problem.

My Koso needed 5V pulse signals so I used the Koso's magnet pick ups 5V feed wire to feed the VFR800 sensor but you don't really have to do that since the 4th gen pulse sensors output is already 5V pulses. You just need to splice the signal wire of the current pulse sensor to your Koso. Assuming of course that your Koso needs 5V pulses for the speed also.

Hey

thanks for that bit of info! How would i find out if the koso gauge is a 5v wire? and which wire coming out of the speed sensor is the one i need to use as theres 3

if i use my speed sensor will it still be accurate then?

thanks for any help!

I measured them with a digital multimeter. You need to have the gauge wiring connected for this, at least groung and 12V power.

Then you turn on the gauges and from the gauge's connector measure which wire is ground and which has constant supply voltage (5V in my case). The third wire is the signal.

I then connected the speed sensor connector loosely so I could measure the voltage between the groung and the signal wire while I waved the supplied magnet in front of the speed sensor and the multimeter showed 5V pulses. It may be a little hard but with few tries I managed it. If you have someone to help hold the multimeter probes in place it should be easy.

You can set the accuracy by setting the number of pulses and the tire circumfence. I measured the number of pulses from the speed sensor per revolution of the rear wheel with the multimeter and calculated the circumfence of the tire. I then used a GPS to get my true speed and compared to the gauges reading and adjusted the tire circumfence accordingly. My settings in the gauges are 12 pulses and 1980mm IIRC. My gauge reads within 1 km/h of the GPS so I'm happy with it.

cheers for the write up but sounds quite complicated to me at least lol, i hate electrics with a passion! give me a grinder, sheet of metal or paint anyday :D

got the next update for ya :D hopefully will draw in sum interest :LolLolLolLol:

start with a sheet of stainless, angle grinder and a hammer

#57

Well guys got an update but unfortunately not a good one

writing this one from my hospital bed!

Will cut a long story short for you guys.....

Few weeks back i had my Dr600 stolen from outside work on a Tuesday couldn't claim as my excess was worth more than bikes value so a few days later i went out and bought a bargain fzr600 for £400 the same evenin i then got the Dr back that's the good news

yesterday i was goin to pick up some bits to turn the fzr into a cafe. I was goin along a mile long straight road and slowed down for a junction that goes across it. just as i reached it a bmw pulled out without even looking. t boned me right into my ankle and sent me onto the grass, sky ground sky ground a few times. and the bike stopped on both my feet.

So now im in my hospital bed with a broken ankle writing this

6 weeks in plaster at least and its 26°C outside........

will post up pics went i get out of hospital as just on my phone

forgot to mention this was not on my vfr thankfully as wud probably still be crying about it now if it was!

Hey guys still in hospital waiting for my second op as the bone came through skin so they had to leave it open and will hopefully be closing it up today fingers Crossed!

Lil bit of good news came yesterday tho had a chat with the police officer dealing with it and he said she admitted fault at the scene and once he has my story of events he can peruse her further and hopefully press charges!

Gotta phone insurance company today and give them all the details. hopefully won't take long to go through a claim.......... But u know wat insurance company's are like

#58

Aww man, I know all about that. 5 surgeries in 18 months finishing with total ankle fusion. I feel for ya brother. Sending good vibes your way. Follow all your doctors orders to a tee and don't cheat on the early weight bearing whatsoever.

If doc says 8 weeks, wait 9. Don't do anything silly!!!

#59

Wishing u a full recovery.

[image: 321067_10150777602230274_880775273_20545524_3997869_n.jpg]

and here it is as it was delivered back to me :(

alot of superficial damage to fairings etc but worst damage was to both wheels!

most annoying thing is that i had already bought a complete r6 swingarm and wheel to swap onto it!

[image: 301371_10150828064105274_880775273_20955300_1517301463_n.jpg]

good news is though it still runs even after being barrel rolled and started up straight away, sounded ok too............

so im just waiting for the accessor to come and look at it. will most probably be written off but i might keep it and cafe/fighter it, can get a whole yamaha thunderace front end for £170 already got the r6 bits to repair/replace rear wheel and i need the rear bodywork, a headlight and a left footpeg to be roadworthy again so i dunno what to do with it!!!

heres what my foot looked like after she hit me :(

[image: 305209_10150833432625274_880775273_20990869_1828952387_n.jpg]

docs said the bone had punctured through the skin!

on a side not though i did have an update for the vfr before the crash!

bought myself a little mig welder and some pipework as the vfr downpipes were completely rotted through in loads of places

[image: 300854_10150820389175274_880775273_20890634_540782874_n.jpg]

here are the 2 front pipes tacked together (as far as i got :( )

got more pics of the nice bruises that started appearing on my left leg, i'll add them later

#67

eeuuhh one gory picture is fine thanks....

we like bare skin picture of a different kind

#68

YUCK! nice ankle, but wishing you a speedy recovery!

#69

WELL TODAY GUYS! i come bearing gifts of GORE and

BONE

****oh and why not a lil more bad news as well while im here

had my appointment at the hospital yesterday to change my cast and change dressings etc

so go into hospital and into the cast room they take off the cast and this is what i see!!

GORE ALERT!!

(youve been warned its gory already :) so instead of showing the pic heres the link instead)

http://a2.sphotos.ak...122013996_n.jpg

http://a3.sphotos.ak..._54411820_n.jpg

the bandage in the first pic was stuck so they had to pull it off :(!

now the xrays they showed me

[image: 317061_10150854447795274_880775273_21144399_297879253_n.jpg]

the spot where the mouse cursor is, is where the break is. the darker jagged line........

and now the metal work to fix me up

[image: 293611_10150854446260274_880775273_21144394_1002196787_n.jpg]

[image: 299501_10150854445980274_880775273_21144393_426471229_n.jpg]

and now onto the bad news :(

whilst they were cleaning it up and replacing the cast, i was speaking to the doc about alot of knee pain ive been having and a lack of (non existent) strength in it

so he said we'll do some xrays JUST IN CASE!

new cast on and xrays done he's looking at them closely then sais i'll be right back just need to speak to the other doctor.............. GREAT!!

they both come back and to my suprise they say ive broken a bone in my knee as well! and it will need MORE surgery to put it right, heres the knee xrays

[image: 312208_10150854458910274_880775273_21144473_879711124_n.jpg]

front xrays shot /\ /\ /\ /\ /\ should be same shape top and bottom of knee joint

side shot \/ \/ \/ \/ where the mouse cursor is, thats the bone thats broken off.....

[image: 305781_10150854450630274_880775273_21144415_1719435814_n.jpg]

so now im in a full leg plaster and cant bend my knee, just waiting for a phonecall to say im booked in for a 3rd operation :(

oh well just another broken bone and surgery to add to the claim as well!!

here i am with a permanent erection for a leg lol

[image: 308523_10150854444520274_880775273_21144389_805898972_n.jpg]

stay safe guys and i'll update when i hear from po po and insurance!!

#71

oh man that sucks pretty bad. at least your alive! heres wishing you a speedy recovery!

#72

Unless your job involves custom building

Your in the wrong job

Youve obviously got a major knack for this kind of thing

Respect

#73

Wow thanks man! Means alother as its def taken some hard work so far just a shame im gonna be laid up for a while.... already planning my next project with insurance money. Cbr919 naked with single swinger and 7" car rim :). Really thinkin about putting a new r1 front nose fairing on this as well, we'll see wat happens. need some measurements off a new r1 first

#74

damn that sucks. Have a speedy recovery.

#75

Yeah, I broke my medial malleolus too when I crushed my ankle. Sucks. Sorry.

It's still tender 2 years and 2 months later. If I poke it or rub it, I can tell. And that's with the hardware removed in that area.

Now 9 months after total fusion, I can almost declare that my (slow speed) mobility is almost as good as its goIng to get, I think. Still Trippy and clumsy in certain circumstances. Got no balance whatsoever on the left leg. If I try to be a stork, I certainly tip over in several seconds unless I grab a wall or something.

And the pain still comes and goes, it just sets in later, after prolonged activity, and under new activity, without a decent rest period inbetween.

Good luck and do NOT cheat on your weight bearing. If the doc says 8 weeks, give it 9. Don't try to be a hero, even just across the kitchen. You will not help your healing.

#76

Cheers for the heads up veefer!

If anyone's intertested I've got a complete 99 r6 swingarm up for sale £170 plus p&p am open to offers on this as need it gone!

its a complete rear end taken off from the swingarm pivot, so includes wheel with good pirelli diablo (180), brake disc, caliper, sprocket, rear brake master cylinder and reservoir, swingarm (lil bit of rash on left side by chain tensioner), shock with all lower linkages and the pivot bolt.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO BOLT IT TO YOUR BIKE!!

Let me know if your interested or know anyone who is!

#77

permanent erection, best part of the crash LOL :D

#78

Well its been a long time!!!

Healing up nicely and just starting physio on my ankle

I have been working on a bike but unfortunately not the vfr! :(

been working on another project :)

http://www.fireblades.org/forums/streetfighter/96124-cbr919-gettin-her-naked-build.html

[image: 399703_10151097385765274_880775273_22278351_1332028212_n.jpg]

but good news is i have finally bought a set of downpipes for the vfr!! All be it there left hand side exit so gotta do all bit of cutting and some welding which i don't mind :)

First things first tho, i gotta sort out theses merges in the pipes!

[image: 400060_10151142598555274_880775273_22495816_192890580_n.jpg]

hopefully will have it all finished off tomorrow so i can start it for the first time in months and hopefully go for a ride, foot and knee permitting :D

#79

Please please please please tell us that we're not going to see another unobtainable two bros left exit header get chopped and ruined and that you got one of the sandy bike headers.

05(ish) R1 front? Is that a momo wheel in the back?

#80

Please please please please tell us that we're not going to see another unobtainable two bros left exit header get chopped and ruined and that you got one of the sandy bike headers.

05(ish) R1 front? Is that a momo wheel in the back?

no you can still sleep easy :) i got a sandys one, left exit as right side wasn't available till spring and i didnt have ANY downpipes for it :(

The front end is 98 r1 but may upgrade wen claim goes through :)

07 r1 front end on the blade

momo 7" wide car rim on the blade and a 6" wide triumph wheel on the vfr :)

#81

phew. I can :schla15: better tonight then.

I take it from the picture that the craftsmanship of the Sandy's header is...less than optimal

#82

The actual system is really nicely built, just a shame they don't pay attention the the merges! But worth saving the money if you can weld :) should release a bit of noise as well as there's no silencers built in like the stock pipes.

Will let you know about fitting and sound hopefully tomorrow......

#83

well it took a while but i managed to get the downpipes on there!!

couldnt get the 2 front pipes fitted when they crossed over so i cut up the merges and fitted them so they just ran straight :)

some of the welds came out horrible as i was welding outside and the fecking wind kept blowing the gas away, but you cant see them so im not bothered just wanted stainless pipes on it so i can ride the thing............

[image: 407858_10151153118090274_880775273_22529101_1388975944_n.jpg]

she runs nice even after standing for 3 months lol was aching like a b**tard after riding it for 20 mins tho, my knee was kinda hurting but my wrist was hurting the most :( the cold weather didnt help lol

finally figured out how im going to mount the projectors in the gix light! i cocked up when i oerdered them........ the vfr runs h4 bulbs but the gix headlight runs h7, so me not thinking ordered the projectors in h4! so the fitting is wrong to put in the headlight :( but ive figured it out :)

ive got 2 h4 round cases that ive removed the front glass from, cut the h7 fitting out of the gix light unit, cut down the h4 cases and fiberglass it on the back of the gix unit............. JOB DONE (hopefully!) youll see wat i mean wen i attempt it lol

[image: 406622_10151153119380274_880775273_22529114_1804905878_n.jpg]

i dunno whether to paint the reflector and the projector housing black? what do you guys reckon?????

hopefully gonna make a start on it tomo! but i gotta buy an angel eye for one projector as it got busted up, dam it

#84

Welcome back to Modding!

Heal quickly!

#85

Hope you make a speedy and complete recovery.

#86

Ah! so your garage is like mine..... the front garden........... :tour:

#87

Thanks guys!

Nearly dutchy :) but mines my back garden lol and you can see in the pic of the blade my lil corner shed as well which means i can do some bits wen its raining. but its real dirty in there at mo as been doing alot of fillering an sanding

Made a start on the projector conversion today

heres the nice cut off line you get with them. nice an bright, this was taken mid day and was still very bright :)

[image: 397290_10151160903335274_880775273_22563697_1760577151_n.jpg]

managed to get the headlight apart as well, 10 mins in the oven and its split :)

[image: 394609_10151160902040274_880775273_22563691_1353469397_n.jpg]

gonna need alot of cutting to the chrome reflector but should be able to get them to fit nicely...... will try and get it finished off tomorrow

then hopefully in the next couple of weeks i can get the bodywork into metallic blue at least to neaten things up :)

#88

Nearly got the lights finished up today

drilled out the bulb holes and fiberglass the h4 mount onto the back, heres one hole fiberglassed. i also trimmed it down to a better shape :)

[image: 401656_10151164849955274_880775273_22579278_444498553_n.jpg]

and both fiberglassed and primed

[image: 383840_10151164851140274_880775273_22579284_1451291778_n.jpg]

[image: 407749_10151164857305274_880775273_22579343_1654843836_n.jpg]

Then gave it a few coats of satin black :)

[image: 401540_10151164860100274_880775273_22579355_1959134708_n.jpg]

looks really different lol think im gonna spray the projector housing black as well so it blends in a lil better lol

but I've made a bit of a f*ck up i dint measure the depth so i don't know if im goin to be able to put the glass on the front!

gotta check it tomorrow, if it don't fit i can't either recess the projector back a bit more if i can or order a smaller projector housing....... will know what's gotta be done tomorrow so fingers crossed!!

Wat do ya think guys? An if it does fit should i spray the projector housing black as well?

#90

#92

Definitely looks really cool. Hopefully it works as good as it looks. :fing02:

#93

Nice work, I'm doing something similar with a Honda headlight. Definitely black for the projector, unless you think it would look good in body colour? I've always liked the look of Ferrari's projectors under a plastic cover with bodycoloured surrounds.

The Phantom

I was thinking about doing the same thing with my 3000GT headlights, but they're not real projectors. Just H4 bulbs in a glass bulb. So they're going to be turned into furniture with the spare VW seat.

#95

thanks for comments guys! definately had a lil johnny 5 about it lol im hoping its alot brighter than the rubbish halogen bulbs as well.......

i like the ferrari lights but ive always liked the alfa lights! there sooo nice and aggressive looking :) if i was to go the bodycolour route i would have to paint the whole inside of the headlight to make it look right, but i think in black it all blends together well (i'll let you decide after you see the pics lol)

it was horrible out today, misty wet and cold, so i thought id bring it indoors for a change lol

started by dismantling the projectors and giving them a quick sand down before masking them up really well

[image: 404520_10151168728470274_880775273_22591633_775232985_n.jpg]

got all the bits in primer

[image: 397010_10151168727200274_880775273_22591631_1622256801_n.jpg]

then gave them about 3 coats of satin black :) here they are unmasked, kept the front part chrome to break it up a bit........

[image: 397199_10151168722555274_880775273_22591623_1318730599_n.jpg]

and then back together :D im liking the satin black and small amount of chrome, alot!

[image: 402190_10151168725960274_880775273_22591629_534584677_n.jpg]

managed to get them to fit into the gsxr headlight unit JUST! had to modify the adjustable points so it sat back further into the gix light but its in there at least

heres a few pictures of them in place!!

[image: 398399_10151168721525274_880775273_22591620_782694389_n.jpg]

[image: 402385_10151168720175274_880775273_22591615_879027321_n.jpg]

i absolutely love the look of it now and hopefully a few of you guys will as well! as it was more work than i thought it would be lol

looks a lil less :D

cant properly seal it up yet as i have to order a ccfl ring/angel eye for the right projector as it got broke in the accident on the fzr :(

should i order some blue ccfl rings? or keep it white? any uk'ers had problems with police and blue lights/ccfl rings on bikes???

let me know what ya think?!

#96

got the viffer put back together again at last (kept raining as well!!)

love the look of it now there in there! one of them is pointing slightly higher than the other.......... but its not too bad and wont be too hard to fix wen i want to either, so im not bothered by it. cant wait to get the angel eyes in there and wired up

here they are with the low beams on (gotta lengthen the high beam wire as it was like a few inches long and doesnt reach)

[image: 403651_10151172519050274_880775273_22604291_1712440607_n.jpg]

and here they are lights off :D. shit weather so not a great picture but it shows there in there!

[image: 405569_10151172517180274_880775273_22604290_1079350369_n.jpg]

i thought i would take a quick video as well (cuz i like you lot ;)) will get a better one when i can, but here it is with stainless downpipes

[video: https://www.youtube.com/embed/2UBZNCE5e0w?feature=oembed]

please ignore the taped on indicator and the hanging free rear light lol there next on the list to get sorted

gonna get one of these for the rear light :)

[image: fighter-tailight-[3]-369-p.jpg]

hope you like it fellow v4'ers cuz i think it sounds awesome even in a rubbish video

#97

Hey, hope you are on the mend, loving the job so far. You've got a lot of creativity and dedication to the mods. Got a few question for you myself. Might PM you for a few answers. Good luck and keep us all updated.

thats the arty shit out the way ;) but you can see the finished lid i painted as well.............

actually got some work done on it today as well

The pleasure I get from reading this thread isn't so much the custom work, but the fact he does it all outside in his small back yard, no fancy garage with dream tools. Then there is the mix of parts he throws together like a mad scientist of motorbike spares RESPECT.

#113

I think it's going to be a lot like the fiero. Kind of terrible. Has it's strong points. Not something you really want to live with. But it's just going to be so cool none of that is going to matter.

yep all this is done in my parents back garden under a 2m by 2m gazebo :) with hand tools a grinder and a small welder :D :D

this vfr is STILL and ongoing project lol

wasnt happy with the other projectors as one was pointing higher than the other, so got a couple more ordered (much nicer and smaller!) and another reflector. got it all painted black again and shoved them in :D

MUCH BETTER!!!!

looks evil going down the road now!

and as my koso dash stopped working i set about chopping up my standard speedo and fitting that in place of it....... it nearly finished just needs a lil bit more work

Ahoy,

Just found this and think the bike and builder are bonkers but brilliant, I was wondering why this thread has been seemingly abandoned though? Everything OK? Trike thingy finished? Pics (pretty) please? I only ask as I has a Bandit...

Thanks apexandy, found him and the build, what a looney. Respect though, as someone else said all the work in his garden by himself. Jealous, moi?
