I picked up a '99 VFR the other week after selling my V-Strom 650 and am enjoying it much more than the Wee. I miss the storage I had on the Wee though and would like to add some to the VFR. The bike came with what I think is the Givi FZ257 top rack and I'm trying to decide between Givi E21's or E41's as well as between the Givi tubular rails (PL257) or the SW-Motech quick release racks. I'm leaning towards the E21's because I think the E41's are just too big for 95% of the time, and more money than I'd like to spend. I like the idea of being able to remove the SW-Motech racks quickly, rather than leaving the Givi tubes on, so I would like to look into the Motech's, but I can't find anything to see if they'll work with the Givi top racks.
Does anyone know if the SW-Motech quick release racks will fit on the bike along with the FZ257?
I haven't done anything to the bike yet since I've only had it for a week and it came with the Givi rack, E360 top case, Corbin seat, K&N, Yoshi slip-on and Race-tech fork setup. I like the riding position better than the Wee, but I wouldn't mind raising the bars a bit. Genmar risers or heli-bars seem to be the most common methods of doing so. Probably gong to look into the risers due to the price difference, unless I can find used heli's.
Looking at the mounting points for the SW-Motech quick release racks I don't think they'll fit with the Givi FZ257. I haven't tried it but the installation sheets don't look like they'll allow both to mount.
The E21's are just to be used as side cases, I use them with the E360 trunk for a 3 storage option that is more than enough for a long trip. I have the older style Givi tubular setup but can remove the side tubular racks in less than 5 minutes, should be similar for the new Givi product, it isn't the same as the 10 second Motech rack removal!
I have the SW Motech racks with Hepco Becker 30 liter bags. At first I could not fit my existing Ventura rack and the Motech racks but when there is a will there is a way.
Ventura rack by itself. Not sure if your attachment points are the same but looks close.

My SW Motechs on tour (Idaho) without my Ventura last summer. I rigged a platform on the pillion seat so I could stretch the load over the tail.
My first trial run with Ventura and SW Motech in prep for June Sierra Tour. I have done a little massaging since this shot.
That doesn't look good for having the existing top rack work together with the quick release mounts, but it might be possible with some massaging. It looks like the Motech brackets mount to the front bolt where the Givi top case mounts to, but the givi arm extents forward where the stock grab handles don't. If you could bend the Motech brackets up or down a bit, (top, back and bottom mount locations) you might be able to do it.
I found a guy not too far off selling a '98 with 144,000 km (90,000 mi) with the quick release mounts. If I can find a time that works for both of us he's ok with letting me have a look at the mounting to see if I can get it to work. Unfortunately he's not willing to sell them separately, but at least I can look at them first hand before ordering them.
Looks like you can mount the SW motechs and then put the rear rack mounts over it. If I can I will take a picture of my setup. I think I crafted some wood dowels as spacers but have to look again.
Thanks for the pics. It might be doable. The only hitch is that the Motech bracket would have to be mounted under the Givi one, and then it looks like the Motech bracket comes up about where the Givi bracket is. If It sticks out past the Givi bracket before coming up it might work.
