Hi Guys,

I have just joined the forum , we are Cycle Pro - RapidBike USA distributor (One and only ) our web site is www.rapidbike.us and my goal here is not to promote a product but rather answer questions that are related to RapidBike Racing and Evo modules along with accesories and RapidBike Master software, since 17 of you had purchased the wiring harnesses that should be shipping from Italy on or before Sept. 26th. And I am sure that a lot of you will have some questions and this is the place to spread the information and such...

Thanks for the price break on the MyTuningBike module. If I go that route how would I get the discount applied on the website or do I order it through you?

FYI - I have two 5th gen VFR800s... one street and one street/track project. Both of these bikes are NOT listed as being compatible (non-VTEC) with the RapidBike Race VFR800 project. The PowerCommander 5 does not list their unit as working with my generation VFR, but we in the VFR community know that the VTEC version PC5 does work... I'm hoping to figure out any differences and make the RapidBike Race VTEC work with my gear driven cams engine so I'm kind one of a the Guinea pigs for all the 5th gen VFR guys...

If I use the MyTuningBike module do I have to have the factory O2 sensors hooked-up? One of my bikes came with factory O2 sensors, I removed them when I changed headers, and the track bike is an earlier version that did not have O2 sensors.

I will follow your installation on CR's bike... although, he has TBR race headers so mine will be slightly different; I think I can find a good spot at the final header collector for a O2 bung install. Is there a preferred distance, or range where it works best, from the cylinder head that the O2 sensor should be installed?

Hi, and thx for making yourself available to answer questions. I just happen to have one question (6th gen here). I have the harness ordered, and am looking at picking up the race module. It is my understanding that this module will come with a standard ignition/fuel map that is much better than stock. Will this map require greater than 89 octane fuel? I ask b/c the stock 6th gen is supposed to run fine on as low as 87 octane. I can't imagine that a higher performance map in the race module would still allow this?

in the RB Master software we can disable the factory O2 sensors and enable My tuning so at the start up / warming up the RB isn't looking for the O2 sensor signal. I have already discounted the price on the web site, the retail is $325 actually. and it comes with the wideband O2 sensor.

It shouldn't effect where they set the ignition advancing so far out where you would require a higher octane of fuel.

Of course the software is free to download. Each RB EVO or Racing module has a serial number on the back of the module and you will need that number to register and download the software... instructions will be included in the box.

PLEASE NOTE: The software only supports Windows operating system.

I ordered the race module, even though I probably won't be using all of its features.

I figure if I want to upgrade later, that this will be the best route.

not very difficult, if anyone needs it now, I can e-mail it to anyone who ordered a system, just request it via e-mail , so you can have the opportunity to review it. I have also posted some info on Panigale forum as well here is the link.

I've got an order in for the harness and am looking at buying the Racing module and the My Tuning Bike as well.

Currently I'm running an RB3 unit and have a Cordona GP quick swifter hooked up to it.

Is there anything special I need to allow me to use the Cordona unit on the Racing module?

Also, as I've spent quite a bit of time making my own map, via data logger and wideband O2, can I import my map from the RB3 in to the Racing?

Well the good news is the wiring harnesses are ready ! to be shipped on Thursday or friday. But we have only confirmed and paid in full 6 systems. I will not delay those 6 systems that is paid for but If we could get the other 11 ordered it is going to be great.

The base mapping is already done and the rest will be continuously tuned by Dynamic adaptivity function . and the purpose of getting on board with VFR forum for me is to help out and answer all questions. Also with the purchase of the system you will be able to download the free software and see and adjust (if needed) some of the functions as well.

UPDATE:

Harnesses will be shipping out on Thursday the 25th. , we should receive them on Tuesday or Wednesday. So far out of 17 , 6 of them will be shipping out immediately since we have only had 6 people actually purchased the modules so far . so instead of ordering 25 harnesses I have only ordered 20 since we could't get all 17 paid at nearly same time ... but we do have enough EVO and Racing modules in stock.

Actually , we can go with 50 rpm increment , when activated , we can choose between 50 to 1000 rpm. Please keep it in mind, over revving the engine comes with some risks and we typically don't go over 500 rpms. And we can always turn off this function or decrease it anytime. But it would have to be done by us or a tuner who has the software.

The RB3 can be raised to a maximum of 500 RPM over standard and this is via a slider so it is pretty much stepless.

It will be the same as the Racing/Evo I'd expect.

If you have the software and the usb cable , It should work, We started in RapidBike Distributorship here in the states at the end of May ,2014 so any prior products like RB 1,2,3 we are not familiar with however if there is a question, we'll do our best to find an answer for you...

I want to say with the

Rapid Bike 1 it is fuel only (in 4 cylinder applications)

Rapid Bike 2 it has fuel control plus either ignition advance or rev limit extension (not both at once)

Rapid Bike 3 has the ability to hold 2 fuel adjustment maps plus hold two ignition adjustment maps (so you can has an ignition advance map and have a rev limit at the same time  or have two separate ignition advance maps)

If you have the USB cable for managing your RB2 it works with the latest software.

I have a RB3 and am running the latest Master software without issue.

S3 clutch actuator that I'm waiting on a part from Germany on.

The install instructions on the RB module looks very clear and easy to do. Hopefully later this week or next I'll get them put in.

Ok so the harness is all connected and plugged in, the bike starts and runs, however when I connect the usb and try to get a connection on my laptop it says ERROR...TUNING BIKE/RAPID BIKE NOT CONNECTED (20)

Do you have the right software installed to tune the module? Did you download the master software with your serial number from the instructions?

I just got my rb racing to connected to my laptop. It took a little while for my laptop to "install the rapid bike device driver" or something like that with it plugged in and bike running, but after it installed the device software I was able to click the get map button and everything connected fine.

Hey CR, can you manually make a make in the RB Master software ? Reason I ask is I'd like to copy my PC3 Custom Map injection % figures into RB as a base line, as their base map will be for a stock Vtec engine !


Oh and another thing, will the unit power up on the USB, without being attached to the bike ? So I can do the above in comfort of my office :wink:

PLEASE DON"T use PC3 or PCV cell values in RB cells as they may not correspond to same exact value. And yes USB will power up the unit no need to have the key on to make/view the software after retrieving it.

PLEASE keep it in mind that if RB is not installed properly , you bike won't run.......

Thanks Yaman, I thought from reading RB info that the fuel correction is % change of the open duty cycle on the injector !?

10% is 10% unless someones telling porkies !

I'll try the unit as is with the Vtec map & hope the unit can tune effectively from the narrow band sensors.

I'd say five minutes tops while windows 7 updated the rapid bike driver etc. Yaman told me that they are releasing a new update soon for windows 8. I am not sure if windows 8 and rapid bike are working together or not but my windows 7 is fine. You may need to click on the updates available icon in the bottom right of your computer screen before your computer recognizes the rapid bike.

If you still can't figure it out, call Yaman at cycle pro.

how would you personally get the related pushrod,  and linkage ends to do a linear-travel frame/sprocket cover mount install of the rapidbike shifter?  I'm mostly drawing straws on what I should pick up to attach to the QS sensor than what to tap to facilitate it's use.

without getting into politics here :) not everyones Z-E-R-O map is a zero map. So I am not sure if the numbers would be identical between RB and PC

I'm all for modifying but you may want to get rearsets and substitute the quick shifter push-rod... if you're unsure on how to fabricate you may butcher the install and regret it later... personally, that is what i would do.

I can't recommend sato go shift rear sets enough. One of the best mods that I have done. Well worth the money.
And I wouldn't recommend the quick shifter with out them.

yOU ARE CORRECT! what I meant was when you do a copy and paste  and highlight entire mapping the values may not go in to the same exact cell in the RB module you you would have to do it cell by cell also sometimes the resolution is different between the two such as tps and rpm increments, that is all.....

Ah OK, I was going to transfer in small blocks once I'd compared the tables.

That does bring up one thing, there appears to be different RPM setting on different pics of RB fuel maps, what is the standard step, as in 500rpm, 250rpm etc ? The ones from CR above seem to show 300rpm steps. Is that default, is it configurable ? I'm happy with 300.

The first PC3 custom map I had had 500rpms values & the bike was OK, but I then discovered you could activate 250rpm values, so I did & interpolated the change between the rpm cell above & below & the bike was even smoother after that !  300rpms is close enough :rolleyes:

With the RB RPM steps you can make them what you basically want.

When the original map is configured in the Wizard, the starting RPM and ending RPM are entered and the number of steps that you want in between.

It calculates the steps from there.

When I converted from a PC5 to my RB3 I took the table out of the PC5 and in Excel married/interpolated the values on to corresponding cells for the RB3

It was a bit of work and I did find that once I put my wideband and data logger on the values needed for the RB3 were quite different.

I'd say it is down to what each manufacturer deems is a zero base.

I've bought the MyTuningBike module for mine so I'll run the map supplied and let it self tune via the wideband, then once I'm happy remove the wideband and run off the 2 narrows.

It appears the newer RB Master, does not allow you set the rows, it only allows start & end RPM. Was a bit confused, as I thought Yaman had missed my RPM increase, but when you reset it in the config it can be increased there.

Found a good calculation for conrod piston stress increase with RPM. If the you divide the RPM increase by 100 then square the result it gives an estimate of the stress load % increase.

So for me, the default VFR800 rev limiter is 12,200rpm, I asked for a 300rpm increase, so 300/100=3, 3x3=9% load increase.
You can see why Yaman recommends a max of 500rpm rev increase by running the numbers. 500/100=5, 5x5=25% load increase which is significant, and probably close if not over the built in safety margin the manufacturers may have incorporated for longevity.

I put about 70 miles on the bike today.  Runs alot better than it did with the PCV and the staintune map I had in it.  I didn't really notice the office jerkiness or the problem in the 3-4000 rpm range.  I did do the flapper mod when I had the tank propped up and the previous owner must have done the marbles in the pair hoses because everything is hooked up but I do not get any backfiring on decel.  

One question I have since I am new to this.  The unit will autotune itself I know.  But do I have to save the map in the module every so often and then upload it back into the module but the module to run on the new settings?  I was told that is how a PCV auto would work.  Again I am a novice at using these modules.

Played some more with the RB Master software & nowhave options for defining the number of rows/columns, but they are a simple menu of fixed options, 40x8 etc, no means to specify the actuals you want. Busy converting PC custom values to RB rpm fields.

Question.  What is the trigger for the quick shifter ?

Looks like power on one pin, to earth on another with signal on the 3rd pin, but is it just a positive voltage trigger ?

I can see the setting in the software to set the trigger voltage, so assume that part is variable, so in theory any positive feed on the sensor line could be made to trigger the QS !

Hey, CR what I meant, was for it to measure the O2 at high revs the bike must be at those high revs. Not sure of the speeding laws in Florida, but I can get a few minutes at 100mph, but that is not high revs. So as we don't have a gear indicator, as an aside a bit pissed the unit does not work out gears like the digital gear displays, i.e. Bike starts at idle, then first, burst of revs then revs set back as 2nd goes in etc ! Not a lot of programming ! But moving on.

The only way to let the O2 sensors see high RPM fuelling is by running high rpm in the lower gears thus at lower almost legal speeds to get fuel readings, but having done that on the last 2 runs I have NOT seen any fuel adjustment suggestions above 7k RPM. Likewise looking at some of the Ducati forum posts on this unit, they don't seem to compensate at higher RPM based on the standard O2 sensors !

Have had my harness from the group buy, just pulled the trigger on the 'race' module ... anything I should know about the mapping (ign/fuel) that comes with the unit, anything to watch for?
 
I'll be pulling the PCIII out, and I guess putting the oxy sensors back in place?, before firing this unit up ...

The ignition and fueling mapping is pretty much spot on. So I would set the maximum allowable changes at +/-5%. Plug your factory o2 sensors back into the headers and piggy back the rapid bike in between. Then ride around for at least 200 miles before applying corrections. Try to emphasize high way miles with some good high load pulls.

Can a single MTB sensor, or possibly 2 MTB be used to tune all four cylinders individually by collecting data then moving the sensor(s) to a different header primary and programming the RapidBike Race to "see" the sensor on the different cylinder(s) and collect a new data set?

Trust me I wanted to do it this way, because buying 4 MTB's was expensive, but even if you could tune one at a time, it would take forever and as you tuned one cylinder to be optimal the other three would indirectly be tuning to be less optimal. You would be running around in circles forever....

Honestly I would be more than happy to give you guys my map to save you the money and trouble, but I have a full race header and over bore throttle bodies so my tuning is wayyyy off. But I will be more than happy to lend a hand and tuning advice :)

I'm not going to try and sell you guys on traction control for a 100 HP bike, but launch control is f$%&ing awesome! And everything else functions marvelously.

I never needed to do any dyno work, as my bike is now auto tuning. But if anyone wants to meet me at a dyno shop in the central Florida area for a baseline run, I would be more than happy to do some pulls and post up the numbers for you guys.

So I wired the RB module back in, hooked up my laptop, fired up the software, and found the 'average cells' box. It is not checked. I hooked up the O2 sensors opposite of the instructions and on the 'status' screen, I saw 0.0 for 'O2 sensor 1 in' and 'O2 sensor 1 out'. I reversed the connections and then saw 0.5 for these items. So, I'm guessing the instructions are correct? I'm assuming 0.0 is not right for the O2 sensor in/out readings.

Well, I emailed Yaman at RB about my issue. I have to give this guy props for customer service, he knows what the term means. I emailed him in the evening after work, & I got a response that same nite. I called the next morning from work, & we arranged a phone call for later the same day after I got home. I get home, hook up my laptop to my RB module on the bike & call Yaman back. He gets on line with me as soon as he can (had to finish a call with another customer), logs into my laptop & runs the RB program. He noticed some issues with my map, made changes, & loaded the modified map to my module. This all took about 20 minutes. He also explained some things about the RB operation for me. Now it's up to me to put in around 200 miles & let him know how the changes work out. I'm riding at the track this weekend so it will be a little while before I can do this. In any case, whether the changes work or not, I appreciate the time/effort this guy puts in for his customers.

Sorry if I'm asking questions that have been answered in this or the other threads, but I'm just getting back to this after last years crash.

Finally got the '01 back and the autotune module is dead, so I have to do something about the tuning.

Now I can't say I'm not shocked and surprised that the RB units can not do gear by gear on the VFR. The PCV can do it without the gear position sensor, they just tap into the Tach signal and the speed sensor and compare to some stored gear ranges and know the gear your in.

Why can't the RB units do the same??

Also is the issue with the 5th gen's narrow band sensors not trimming fuel related to how seldom the 5th gen ECM is in closed loop mode? The 6th gens go into closed loop mode a lot more often to meet the later emissions standards.

Here's a couple videos of testing out the youtune module, launch control and traction control. I have the launch control set to hold at 9,000 RPM's. Once it detects a 500 RPM drop, it moves on to the second stage (traction control) which limits output until reaching 11,000 RPMs. You will hear some missfires in this second stage. After Passing 11,000 RPM's you reach the third stage and you have full power again.

8th gen rearsets for the optional quickshifter should work for Honda stuff... Sato rearsets for aftermarket.

I looked at the honda catalog and it looks like the only difference I can find on the rearsets (quickshifter vs non quickshifter) is nothing. The shifter is optional but the kit for that only includes the lever/quickshifter module assy. I was hoping someone has used a 900RR or something set of rearsets to make it work. I do have an older set laying around and if I could make that work I'd be happy.

Sato's are nice and expensive but I don't like having to go to a pressure switch for the rear brakes. A little leery about cracking open my linked brake system for bleeding but that's just me.

I had been using the old Rapid Bike 2 and older on/off style pressure switch quick shifter, which worked okay but needed some upkeep, but I have to say the newer Rapid Bike strain gauge based quick shifter is phenomenal. It is fully adjustable for any amount of force that you could possibly want for initiating the fuel cut shift and requires no maintenance.

I have just a few RB related questions, I have the 'race' module, on a 6th gen. 1st, does picking up the 'you tune?' module negate the need to find a convenient dyno tuning shop? I'm not even sure there's anyone near me I'd trust to dyno my bike & try adjusting the RB maps. 2nd, I may be riding out to CO to watch the PPIHC activities, how might the RB module behave with altitude changes? 3rd, I just replaced plugs and noticed my idle speed dropped a few hundred rpm, normal? I guess this last question strays from RB questions, but just wonder if there's a relationship? TIA.

You do not need to do a custom dyno tune if you have the Rapid Bike Evo or Race, unless you have extensive modifications.

The supplied base map that the Race and Evo modules were shipped with, will be very close to perfect on most factory VFR800s or with basic slip-on, catless headers, snorkel flapper delete and air filter etc mods. The Race and Evo modules run in closed loop (taking in information from the factory o2 sensors or optional wide band to make necessary fueling changes) and will easily compensate for basic modifications and weather/altitude changes. Honestly the VFR800 comes equipped from the factory with a Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor and the factory ecu can compensate for altitude changes by it self, the Rapid Bike will not effect this.


Now on the other hand, if you are running modified camshafts, high compression, ported cylinder heads, over bore pistons, forced induction, nitrous, race gas etc.... you are going to want to spend some time on a dyno.

Thx CR. My bike is basically stock, with a slip on. If the Tyga headers ever become a reality, I may go that route. But from what you wrote, that still may not require any re-mapping. I have the adaptive thingy (tech term) turned off due to issues that creep in over time. These showed up early on after installation & Yaman helped me set the adaptive map (?) back to 0s. That was good for a while, then about 1000 miles into a loop I rode last summer, the issue came back. So I just disabled that part & she runs smoothly.

I got my mapping where I like it, left it at 5% and stopped moving it over. Everything has been fine ever since. If I do any mods, I will put a few hundred miles on it and move another adaptive map over.

I’ve got a Rapid Bike Racing unit (from a crashed BMW S1000) and want to try wiring it up to my 5th gen. I’m assuming all that is required is s remap and a harness?

Harness alone is is going to cost me £130 with shipping. Sounds a bit expensive for a cable but I suppose it is a specialist item. These are not listed for sale - you have to ring them to order one. 

Liam explained that to begin with the unit has to be set up for a specific motorcycle. Only Dimsport suppliers can do that, he explained. Normally that costs £40 but he is doing it free as I’m buying the harness.

After that you can freely play with maps from your online account. 

That’s as much as I understand.

Has anyone here installed a Rapid Bike Evo on a late model 5th gen with O2 sensors? I would be curous to know how it has performed.

Also I'm wondering what the limitations of the stock narrow band sensors are. I like the idea of the wide band sensor but I would want two (same as stock) and that it cost prohibitive.

I would be more concerned about tuning with 16-18 year old o2 sensors, than the 2 vs 1 argument.

If it were me, I would shell out a few bucks for the single wide band o2 sensor and ditch the original 2 narrow bands.

I don't see any reason to ditch the stock O2 sensors just because of age. With less than 20k miles they should have plenty of life left. If the Rapid Bike can produce a good tune with them then that's what I'm interested in. For me part of the attraction of Rapid Bike is the ability to use the stock sensors. I realize that the wide band sensors are better at tuning for large throttle openings but I'm more interested in overall driveability and smaller throttle openings (closed loop fueling).

My ‘98 has no sensors. I’ve been wondering if I should stick one in after the collector for the Rapid Bike Racing module or not. 

A single sensor is not ideal, however, as the rear cylinders run richer than the front. You’d need a different sensor for front and back. 

In the perfect world I’d install 2 wide bands with 2 my tuning bike modules but the cost would be insane. Cheaper option is just to install 2 narrow bands plugged straight into the RBR.

Well I was the UK guinea pig for the RB Racing module as part of a VFRD group buy otganised by CandyRed, so hav8ng had a unit for a few years here’s my view. Y2K VFR800FiY with O2 sensors, my bike is extensively modified.

i went the RBR route after having a PC3 with custom maps, but I wanted to be able to play with the ignition timing too, which was not available with the power commander. This turned out to be a blind alley, as the 5th gen even on 99RON fuel will only allow a maximum of 3degrees adjustment, so ignition adjust is pointless & didn’t gain anything. Thus as a fuelling module it is no better than a PC3 with custom map.

that said it has many more features & add-ons than the PC3, such as auto mapping, narrowband, Mytuning bike wide and, much better, fuel control management for over run & engine braking etc plus lots of additional things you can add.

So my advice to anyone that just wants fuel mods on one bike, get a PC3 or 5 & have it dunno mapped, it’s much cheaper & get# the same result.

If you have multiple bikes you can just buy the harness & move the module between bikes, so the Rapid Bike units are much cheaper in this scenario. Or if you want all the advanced functions, then this is the one to get.

As we say here, you pays your money & takes your pick.

Thanks Mohawk, I am riding on your coat tails here. Your results with this module are the reason I got interested. Huge debt owed to you, both on this and other mods. 

Like you, I was hoping to mess with ignition advance but it is disappointing to hear your findings that only 3 degrees are available. Is that throughout the entire rev range or does it vary? 

If memory serves you got the my tuning bike kit with wide band sensors too, yes? 

As mine is a pre-sensor model I was wondering if I could weld two wide band sensors into the downpipe collectors and plug them straight into the Rapid Bike Racing unit WITHOUT the My Tuning Bike module. Will the RBR accept these directly? Hoping to save money here. 

As for saving money, the RBR unit is a poor choice even if moving it from bike-to-bike. The harness alone costs £130 (including tax and shipping). A new PC3 would be about the same!

I asked about upgrading to a wide band sensor without the My Tuning Bike module and the answer was NO, it is not possible. For me, it's not worth going with My Tuning Bike module because of the cost. You can get a PCV with Autotune and wide band for about half the price.

Still curious to hear about anyone's experience with the Raid Bike and tuning with narrow band sensors.

So what can I say. I made some changes In my bike before I have installed RB. First I changed slipon to SCProject and air filter to Pipercross. After that modifications I felt in some middle range power drop. To some range bike in full throttle behave normal, than drop power and after getting some rpm again get normal power. After installing RB module with o2 narrow sensor, auto adaptive function create own map and now my bike behave in full rpm range normal. My positive felling is that bike get more power in down and mid rpm range. Of course fuel consumption increased about 1-1,5l per 100km more. When you say you used the narrow band sensors in pair mode, does this mean that the two sensors work together to generate one map, or one map per cylinder pair? Also curious if you have tried adjusting the engine braking setting. Lastly, does the Rapid Bike harness plug into each injector individually or does it tap into fuel system harness with a single connector?

Maybe I didn`t write correct. I haven`t change o2 sensor, I use information from stock narrow band. Only what I made more I blinded PAIR system, to have correct information from o2 sensor and reach good AFR. I haven`t palyed with engine break yet. RB harness has one main connector to ECU and others to TPS, o2 and crankshaft sensor. What they haven`t made in this harness, they didn`t get connector to gear sensor position. I`ve installed RB QS which work much better then stock one. I attach instruction how to install RB on gen 8 - which is the same as in PC.

While the 20 year old o2 sensors could be okay or on their way out, they still will not be anywhere close to as accurate as a new Bosch wide band. Though the difference in tuning a lightly modded vfr could be negligible, so its your call (but it seems like you have already made your decision). A wide band o2 sensor will tune faster and more accurately than the factory narrow bands, at all throttle and rpm positions (Not just large throttle openings). I guess you go this idea from how the Honda ECU only uses the factory narrow band o2 sensors at light/steady throttle, but this is irrelevant, as the narrow bands are disabled to the honda ecu when the Rapid bike is added (Rapid bike will take information from narrow bands at all ranges for tuning its own mapping, but send a steady signal to the honda ecu, so the honda ecu stays in open loop while the rapid bike stays in closed loop. This happens whether using factory narrow the band o2 sensors or the my tuning wide band kit.)

I do understand the gain per dollar argument and just installing a Rapid Bike Evo with no other options or dyno tuning required is attractive and definitely doable on +2000 VFR800's, I am just giving you my opinion on what I would do....

It may say this on their website, but this is false. I threw away my factory narrow band o2 sensors almost 9 years ago and I am using the Rapid Bike Racing module plus My tuning bike wide band o2 sensors with great success.

You definitely do not NEED separate front and back wide band o2 sensors (literally every single VFR800 that has been dyno tuned, has been tuned with a single wide band down the collector), though you are certainly right, 2 wide bands would be more ideal than one wide band and furthermore, 4 wide band o2 sensors will be more ideal than 2 (I am actually currently using 4 my tuning kits for individual cylinder mapping and it is phenomenal).

Definitely debatable, as everyone's idea of bang for the buck is different, though if you do go the narrow band route, please buy new oem from Honda and not mystery used ebay o2 sensors.

Thanks Mohawk, I am riding on your coat tails here. Your results with this module are the reason I got interested. Huge debt owed to you, both on this and other mods. 

Like you, I was hoping to mess with ignition advance but it is disappointing to hear your findings that only 3 degrees are available. Is that throughout the entire rev range or does it vary? 

The ignition advance varies. On the Rapid Bike supplied 5th gen ignition map you will see 3 degrees at low throttle/rpms, 2 degrees at medium throttle/rpms and 1 degree at higher throttle and rpms. Honda just did not leave as much on the table on the 5th gens as they did with the 6th gens (which will take 5 degrees advance through the entire low-midrange).

No. The Rapid bike will only accept the factory narrow bands directly or the Bosch wide bands with a my tuning bike module.

Thanks for the great information Cimaj. When you say you used the narrow band sensors in pair mode, does this mean that the two sensors work together to generate one map, or one map per cylinder pair? Also curious if you have tried adjusting the engine braking setting. Lastly, does the Rapid Bike harness plug into each injector individually or does it tap into fuel system harness with a single connector?

Cimaj was talking about blocking off the pair valves that inject air into the exhaust ports, as they dilute the exhaust gas and can give an inaccurate AFR reading.

I have used the Engine Brake feature and it works phenomenally, it really smooths out the on/off throttle transition, where Honda was actually shutting off the fueling for emissions compliance (most prominent in the top three gears above 5000 rpms).

Yes this is a good idea. A single wide band o2 sensor in the collector with the My Tuning kit.

I believe what I did was:

Remove factory narrow bands.

Installed o2 eminators on the honda harness

Loop the o2 sensor connections on the Rapid bike harness.

Definitely don't throw your factory o2 sensors away, just in case that doesn't work.

For the engine brake settings, I based my settings on my AFR readings on the Youtune display. Each gear needs slightly different adjustment, but since we do not have a gear input on the VFR harness, I tried to do the best compromise for each gear. I will have to double check my settings, but I think I had it around 50%, so closed throttle deceleration would stay in the 13-14:1 range. You definitely don't want to get much below 13:1 AFR, as you will be wasting gas and far too rich and you don't want to be much above 14:1, as it will not be effective.

Yeah 4 my tuning bikes is great, but a bit excessive.

The Rapid Bike Racing ignition maps were created to run on Mid-Premium octane fuel (95 Euro; 91 US). The 5th gen VFR800's ignition mapping is pretty optimized from the factory, so there is not much more ignition advance that can be safely added. If you ran 98, you could maybe add 0.5-1.0 degree of advance on top of the rapid bike base map, but I would only do it while tuning on a dyno, with some means of knock detection and by a professional.

Does anyone have a Bosch part number for the wide band O2 sensor that works with My Tuning Bike? 

I’ve lost the one that came with the kit and need to replace it. It’s a generic part and I’d rather not go to Dimsport as it costs twice as much from them.

You need the Bosch LSU 4.2 for the older MYB or the 4.9 for the new one. The connectors & operation are very different, so you can’t use 4.9 with old MTB. Have a look at the connector on yours, if it was from the group buy or not in the last year then it’s likely 4.2.

just match your MTB connector.

Thanks Mohawk. It’s a 4.9 for sure. Will have to take a punt on one of the 4.9 variants and see how it goes. 

I think the the only variable is cable length. You can get some with motorsport connectors but MTB uses the standard automotive plug.

Found a YouTune module on ebay, bought it, installed it this morning, and the bike runs pretty poorly, breaking up at light throttle, youtune shows it running pig rich at almost all throttle positions and RPM.

Now, I'm sitting in my garage trying to connect to the module and download the map, and it refuses to connect to my computer. Windows says the software driver is unavailable. Tried everything I know to do, what next?

i had a similar issue when i first tried to install rapid bike on my laptop. I'm running windows 10 and nothing I did seemed to work. The last thing I did was a full refresh and clean windows install on my computer and that solved all my issues

So I ended up having to uninstall and reinstall RapidBike Master, that allowed me to reconnect to the ecu. I retrieved the map, nothing stuck out as "run like shit bad" in the adaptive map. 

I reset the adaptive map to nothing and went for another ride, still rode like absolute crap, cutting out, misfiring, etc. I unplugged the youtune module, and it runs great. The Youtune seems to work fine, it shows the displays it's supposed to show, but obviously something isn't right. Any ideas before I take up cyclepro's time with a call or email?

Hi guys I'm trying to understand One thing about the my tuning bike module.  Does it have the wideband controllers built it?  most other efi projects I've done have had them external. i have 4 of them and didn't want to have to buy more than i need.

i have not had a power Commander though so i dont know how they do it....seems hard to find actual technical info.

what does the my tuning bike module actually do? maybe its just that a wideband controller.???  also is it universal?  from what i can tell its just 1 channel.I would like to go with 4 channels since I have the sensors and controls anyway and it's Just a matter of welding on a couple of bungs.

maybe I should  go full aftermarket ECU?  although then i have to deal with the dash not working, i assume there is a CAN link between it an the ECU.....

There is an RBR map for a stock bike & maybe with a slipon. Other than that you need a dyno a wideband logger or an MTB.

As for the software, that . . . has been more of a mystery to me.  I consider myself relatively tech savvy - I've built some PC's,  but I'm certainly no expert.  However the only place I could find to download the software from is from Dimsport's Italian website. For whatever reason, it would not load properly on my Win 10 laptop.  I have not gotten around to calling Yaman to find out where to get it and if there's a user's guide for it.  If anyone solves that, I would be very interested in what turns up.

My software wouldn't load on w10 either , I needed a driver update.  From dealer. 

When you get the software running it has a login with your specific details that comes with the module and iirc that's where the manual/user guide is downloaded from

Interesting.  Better than stock, no lean mixture issues?   I think I mentioned elsewhere, I'm a fan of defeating closed loop control via the key switch and happy with that (no surging, etc.).  I would like a RB at some point but if I could piecemeal this out over time that would be swell too.

Ok, I think this is the info I'm looking for!  I too consider myself pretty good at figuring things out, and yet the Dimsport's website also leaves me with many questions :lol:  So the Racing module will self-tune with the stock sensors and I don't need the MTB thingy yet...that's great!

Hey boOZZIE. Just curious, what is the benefit of all short velocity stacks, considering the different induction air pulses with the V4 firing crank angles of 180, 270, 180, and 90.

Honda went to a bit of trouble in matching/tuning the velocity stack lengths with the above crank angles.

Well RB can claim whatever they like. I had my 5th gen running PC3 with custom dyno tune before RB install. 
 

I ran it for 500 miles on narrow band and it was nowhere near as good as the custom tune. So I bought a wideband AFR sensor & fitted that to the dash temporarily. I used it to modify the cells where it was out of whack. It got much better very quickly. Would have been better if I'd had a logger. 
 

Took it for a dyno run & it was still off a bit. Fitted an MTB & it was much better, next dyno run was much better.

The original question was asked and answered incorrectly. Either way the original poster was concerned about spending more money on a wideband with the RB.  If you take either the PC5 or the RB racing and put them on a dyno and CUSTOM tune them while spending a ton a money  for a couple horsepower its not money well spent. If I remember correctly 800 bucks from Attack for the header dyno. Either way in Mohawk's case it is not because his bike is not stock.  Original poster has a stock bike with a header and probably a air filter and block off plate etc nothing major. Mohawk has cams velocity stack etc.  He is extrapolating every bit of power for his mods. Keep in mind dyno number will change day to day and month to month ie humidity temperature etc you cannot compare apples to oranges.  If you are going to compare anything dyno runs should be on the same day with both systems.

Not sure who the OP is at this point in this thread.  I will almost certainly get a wideband O2 to go with my headers in a month or two though.  My VFR is stock right now, except for "mods that don't matter but people think they matter" like the snorkel and flapper.  

I am pretty sure I can feel the map steps (aka piecewise linear logic) right now when I am feeling around for them, while the drop/surge behavior is gone.  I can only imagine the wideband sensor tuning makes them less obvious, along with making smaller pieces in the map of course.

I went back through the thread, and other people's screen shots of ignition advance doesn't look like mine.  And the engine braking screen is completely different now.  I don't feel a need to play with ignition (I can see it applied a map with advances up to four degrees in spots already) but would kind of like to figure out engine braking.  I enabled "something" but it doesn't seem to behave any differently than before.  Closing the throttle down shuts down the fuel pretty quick.

Did a 100 mile ride from San Diego to the other side of the Cleveland National Forest today to shake things out.  81 degrees at sea level here, 65-ish degrees at around 4,000 feet there on the Sunrise Highway.  Lots of cruising on I-8 at 75-85 mph and rolling through twisty mountainside stuff.

The stupid closed loop behavior is gone, and with the power curve smoothed out, it's a whole lot easier to hold speed on top of that.  And the mid range power and response is just fantastic.  I was able to just stay in 6th gear going uphill on I-8 with plenty of roll-on reserve to get way fast for passing.  Before, at sea level, would usually tend to drop to 5th or 4th.  On the mountain side, I stayed in third or fourth for reeeaaaally long stretches, using the whole power band just because I could.  Definitely did not have to think much about gears, or worry about getting stuck in the wrong end of the rev range somewhere in a corner, or between corners.  

This is after ~200 total miles or so.  As I do more miles I'm watching it continue to self-tune.  If I did nothing else, I'd be pretty happy with how the bike is.

Let's say for example, one has a developed PC III or PC V map that's been custom designed (which I do).   There are obviously various trims at each RPM / throttle position cell in the PC's table.  Is it possible to transpose (such as in music) those trims over to a Rapid Bike table in order to get a baseline map that's "pretty close" to start with so that the RB can then fine tune using the MTB and a wideband O2 sensor? 


Anyone done this or know how?  Are there any tutorials either witten or maybe youtube videos on that topic?

Not having seen Dynojet's software interface, it seems like this would be easy to do?  Like just make your own map in lieu of the one RB ships with.  But...the self tuning is going to make it OBE real quick I think.  Like  mine can go +/-8 out of the box, and a lot of my self tune adjustment values are already at the max values.

I think the ignition advance adds some complexity that doesn't fit with the PC map crossover either.

Yes, they both operate on a % duty cycle change value. So +X value in one is similar to the other.

Again...the manual could be better.  But my bike is automatically tuning itself with the stock O2 sensors as far as I can see, and in line with previous posters' examples:

I've only jetted up and down the highway a few times and gone on a few errands.  So very little time spent above 7,000 RPM or with lots of throttle for the RB to observe.  The numbers match my feeling as to what it's adjusting to, where the bike is happier sitting between 4K and 6K RPM without downshifting as much.  From what I can tell, the "RBo2 Active" box must be checked for it to use the O2 signal.  Mine was checked already.

What I did just enable tonight...I think...is ignition and fuel advance (section 3.6.3 in the manual).  Will see if that makes a difference tomorrow.

For those who might be interested, here's where I ended up putting this thing:

That's the RB Racing unit on the left side of the photo (right side of the bike), with the USB and other cable plugs inside the plastic bag by the rear brake reservoir.  The red rag on the other side is around my shock reservoir (I have some neoprene foam sheets coming to make all of this look a lot nicer).

The tools are in there...but hidden under the center spine, running between both pockets.  I can pull out the RB unit or the shock reservoir very easily and get to them.

The harness has just enough length to meet the stock O2 sensors on the left side of the bike, running right by the rear cylinder heads and down inside the frame near the coolant reservoir.  The other connectors have excess length that's loosely running under the fuel tank on the right side, and coiled a bit behind the plastic body panel in front of the rear brake reservoir.  In other words...this thing is clearly meant to go on the left side of the bike, but my WP shock was there first!

I hope you don't mind one more question - where did you find the manual referenced above?  Maybe hidden in an unlikely place on their website?  LOL  Many thanks!

The software download comes with two manuals.  The first one is titled "RB Master Free 1-2-3 guide ENG" and doesn't tell you much.  The next PDF is the full manual, and it's "Software RB Master Free - ENG."  That's the one you want.

There are some differences between the latest software and what's in the manual, and the screen shots from others in this thread going back six years look really different.  It's enough to get you started with the software I guess, but there are things like engine braking that aren't well explained enough for me to mess with it.
