what i mean, is there a list of wheels from other hondas that have the same bearing spacing and bore and such? possibly interchangeable rotor bolt patterns and spacings?

Safe-T has collected a fair amount of info on this. Have a look for the FrankenViffer index/pages...

The 5th/6th gen wheel w/ rotors should fit. Never tried it though.

The CBR600F4 wheel is a direct swap with or without rotors for the 5th/6th gen front.

F4 rotors are interchangeable with VFR800 rotors.

F4i rotors are different and not interchangeable with VFR800 or F4.

VTR1000F Superhawk front wheel and rotors should fit. Can't recall if rotors are swappable with VFR800 or not. No idea about 3rd/4th gen. Probably not since 5th/6th gen rotors will not interchange with 3rd/4th gen wheels.

I believe the CBR600F2 wheel is a direct swap for the 3rd gen VFR750 front wheel. F2/F3 wheel might also fit on 4th gen. VFR750, but why bother since they look the same unless you can't find a VFR wheel.

You can put a Ducati wheel on your 4th/5th/6th gen since the VFR rotors will fit the Ducati wheel.

You can put a Ducati wheel on your 4th gen with GSXR1000 forks like Swiffer did.

You can put a VFR800 wheel with Ducati rotors on your RC51 forks like vfrmonkey did.

You can put a Ducati wheel with Ducati rotors on RC51 Ohlins forks like I did.

You can put an RC51 wheel with CBR929/954 rotors on CBR929/954 forks. Or a CBR929/954 wheel with RC51 rotors on RC51 forks.

You could probably put a '98-'01 Yamaha R1 front wheel on any year VFR. Not sure why you would though.

'04+ R1 forks with radial monoblock calipers fit in CBR929/954 and '00-01 RC51 triple clamps which lots of people here have put on the VFR750/800. And the new R1 uses a five-spoke front wheel. Sweet.

You could go truly frankengoofy like Tok Tokkie and fabricate radial caliper adapters for your RC51 forks so you could use R1 monoblock calipers on your VFR wheel with custom OEM wave rotors. I think Ralph said he had them 'doileed' or something like that :P

yadda yadda yadda

What kinda wheel you wanna try to put on there anyway ? Swapping bearings and making spacers is pretty straightforward stuff.

Yup, I've gone the opposite way of putting 4th gen vfr wheel/rotors on my superhawk to get the multi-spoke look.

im just looking to get the floating rotor hat that my 3rd gen does not have.

Nice. What's the rear wheel ? 900RR or RC ? Like the Tokico 6-piston calipers - are they Busa or GSXR ?

flyguyeddy - VFR front wheel bearing sizes according to the Frankenviffer checklist are as follows:

'94-'97 VFR750: 42x20x12
'98-'07 VFR800: 47x20x12

Sorry I don't have data for the '90-'93, but it is probably 42x20x12.

You might also try asking if anyone on the VFRmailinglist has put a different wheel on their 3rd. gen.

Wow thats a lot of testing / info keeping Safe-T,

Hey Safe-T, do you know the actual bolt pattern on the VFR rear?

No. No one makes a wheel you would want to put on in place of the VFR's anyway.

Hey Safe-T, do you know the actual bolt pattern on the VFR rear?I recall hearing about some compatibility with Honda cages but can't recall if they use the same PCD (bolt pattern), or if Honda cage wheel lug nuts fit the VFR lugs.

And you should feel the weight of the R1 five-spoke wheel - after picking up the bare 4th Gen front wheel the R1 wheel feels to be 1kg lighter. It's not, of course, I'll get some weight measurements in the next week (am currently interstate - zRoYz, get away from my garage!).

So I wanted to be clear. A 4th gen wheel will fit on a 3rd gen with no problems? I have a wheel with bearings, rotors, axle, and spacers. What should I use?
Thanks in advance.

Same lug nuts as most honda cars.

The F3 and 4th gen VFR wheels are identical. I believe the F2 and 3rd gen VFR are also the same but I'm not sure.

hey, if it will work do you have any interested in swapping to a 5th gen front end?

Due to its linked brake setup, the 5th gen front end is not a good candidate for swapping. It is, however quite valuable as a used replacement for someone who has pranged their front end. I know a couple of people including myself who have paid for a good part of their RC51 fork conversion by selling their 5th gen forks complete.

I only ever mocked-up an NC30 wheel onto a 3d-gen front end, just enough to know that everything lined up the way it should. 3d-gen discs are thicker than 4th-gen discs, but not by much (0.5mm?).

My 4th-gen wheel has only ever resided on someone else's 4th-gen VFR and my VTR1000F-forked 3d-gen VFR. I can't honestly remember if I used 100% 3d-gen parts, but I may have used the axle from a VTR--ISTR using the axle bolt from the 3d-gen because it's head matched the wrench in the toolkit!

Ciao,

Ciao,
Thanks. Since I have all of the parts, I'm going to give it a try this weekend. If it works, great, if not, then I'm out some time, and I can most likely resell the wheel for what I paid.

I used a Marchesini mag on the front of my bike that was originally intended for a CBR900RR. The stock axle, wheel spacers, and rotors were all used, but I did have to space the rotors out slightly on each side (and I believe also slightly elongate the bolt holes).

Bugger my black Lycra suit isn't back from the dry cleaners so not able to go stealth at the moment so your parts are safe :P
Will you also either email me or ring about SinS in Feb because I'm told your attending on a bike (how the hell your going to keep up on your push bike I don't know)

Back on topic I have a question that could be answered here without starting a new thread (I will find out myself when have bits but don't hurt to ask in advance).
Will a vtec wheel rotor spacing line up with F4I forks & calipers, both rotors are 296mm & wheel bearings are the same but I have noticed the F4I axle is longer than the vtec so are the fork lower mounts just thicker on the F4I (can't tell until forks come back from revalve work)

I'm fitting F4I forks & calipers to my 4th gen using vtec triple clamps, clip-ons, wheel, rotors left over from my vtec R1 2005 fork install which is finished & on the road (yes it's better than the RC51 front I had before).

I may do a search soon for good aftermarket wheels but this is a good question.

VFR wheels are an abomination (what a word)!! They weigh a ton and the paint job was done by trainees in a Vo-Tech school. Compared to a brand x bike I'm familiar with, Honda wheels are junk. Look at the size of the spokes the inside of the spokes are ROUGH CAST!! and they ought to be strong enough to use on a locomotive. Think what a VFR would handle like if the wheels weighed a third less....which is feasible.

Other than that, they're fine wheels IMHO....
