Fuel Smell

A few minutes after I turn off the bike, I am getting a fuel smell.  It is not there when it is running or just after I turn off the bike, but shows up 3 or 4 minutes later.  Any ideas?

So the bike is running fine otherwise?

Is there any fuel on the ground?

I was first thinking carb float problem, but looks like you have FI
Check the fuel rails and connections for leaks as your FI system is pressurized.

check the plugs if fouled...check the air filter if clogged.

Bike is running fine and no fuel on the ground.

Mine does that too, stinks up he entire garage. Are you running an aftermarket pipe?  Mine seems to do it more when I have the 2 bros. on vs. stock pipe.

I suggest you take a look at the gasket in your gas cap.  These sometimes dry out (even when "washed" with gas) such that, when the engine heat warms the tank after stopping, gas fumes can leak out.  I grease my gasket when ever I smell gas in the garage after I shut the bike off.  It seems to work for me.  YMMV

It is heat from the engine (no ventilation once the bike is parked) that expands the air in the tank and the fumes get out through the vent hose. Just before getting home, fill her up with (cold) fuel and the smell will be a lot less.

I pulled off the plastic and did notice the end if the vent hose was wet.  I guess that explains it. Thanks

When I had the plantic off I did run the bike and let it warm up.  It was only a few minutes after did the fuel smell come back.

I did check the end of the vent hose, but it was still dry.

I will try this too.  What do you use for grease?

Wondering if this issue was ever resolved? What would you 'grease' the gasket with? Can it be replaced or can you replace the gas cap but keep the original lock?
I have ths issue and after reading this thread I park my bike on the driveway for 15 to 20 minutes after every ride to let the tank cool and now no more gas smell throughout my house (my garage is under the living room)..

A little silicone grease should do the trick.

CA bikes '98-newer have a carbon filter to reduce this issue. Many take it off. Not sure about the 49-state bikes '00 and newer but removing it can lead to the gas smell.
