Been looking at "budget" slip-on for my 6th gen for a while and today I came across these Delkevics on their eBay store (http://stores.ebay.c...d=p4634.c0.m322)
I believe these are completely new design as they weren't there before (been looking for a couple of months) and don't even appear on their website.
There are 4 different models, two carbon ones with big and small ends, and two Stainless Steel ones with both big and small ends.
The most impressive thing is the price and construction seems solid.
They even have pictures of how it looks on the carbon ones and dyno graphs showing a 5bhp gain (although I wouldn't trust that too much, you'll probably need a Power Commander and some proper dyno tests to achieve that).
Has anyone have any experience with Delkevic in here?
They ship internationally and I'm about to order a set for my 6th Gen.

Careful,....wasn't this the brand that had crummy craftsmanship at "Y" joins on their pipes??

Could be... I've heard mixed opinions about them.
Reason why I'm asking in here before I order.

Not too much to screw up with these, unlike the header welds.
I would try'em and be sure to get the "Not intended for road use. Baffles/DB Killers are available separately for $20 a unit." as I'm sure there are super loud!

I though it was the motard headers from GB that were such crap? These Delevik's are using stamped tube connectors like factory.

What about bags ? I like the looks but what about those with bags.
#7
I had Delkevic pipes on my 2003 Ninja 500 and they were great. The construction was good quality and they bolted up easily. The only issue I had with them was the mid pipe discolored pretty quickly and turned gold. Not necessarily a bad thing but worth mentioning.

The crappy ones were the units offered by "Sandy Bike Spares". The Delkevics are nice for the money.

Ordered a set of the Stainless Steel stubby round ones (http://www.ebay.com/...e&forceRpt=true) with the db killers.
Waiting on comined invoice and then shipping so I guess I'll have them here in a couple of weeks, will et you all know how they go.
#10
Those look pretty tempting and according to the ebay ad, they are located in Englewood CO which is a ten minute drive from my house.......hmmmm. However, I tried to pick up my D&D for my last VFR at the factory in Ft. Worth with hopes of getting a tour as well. NO GO! Prices were internet only and NO TOURS. I'll have to see what I can find out via the yellow pages!
#11
Their cans w/ pipe are fine. It's their headers that are questionable. Someone on here or vfrworld bought some and they did a real crap job on the pipe connections. Pretty much just torching some holes then welding the pipes over them.

I just noted the possible problems with the system because the 6th gen pipes do have a "Y" on it that can have similar fabrication wonkiness as the headers do....
#13
I have the stainless one on my 5th gen and I have had no issues. Sounds great with and without baffle and bolted up pretty easily. Worth it for the price for me. You almost can't go wrong.
#14
No turning back now...
I have just paid for them so would have them here in the next couple of weeks, will let you know how they go.
I also ordered the baffles for an extra $20 as from all reports this things are LOUD (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I have looked at the stainless exhaust myself. The price just seems to good to be true. Do you have a thread detailing your purchase and mounting? Pictures would be cool too.

See post 8, I think your thinking of a different seller/Brand. These look to use the same manufacturing design as stock, using stamped connectors, not the hacked one's of another brand.

Ill see what I can do good sir. To be honest I don't think it will do the sound justice but at least it will give some idea :)

From your aviator pic it looks like you have the Honda luggage. Please let us know if there is enough clearance with these pipes to mount the luggage brackets.

Thanks,

I installed the carbon stubby cans and system on my bike two days ago being apparently the first person in the UK to get the new pipes for the 6th. I have to say that the build quality looked fine to me and all went on really easily, for the money they are fantastic value. I do remember Ron saying to me 'John are you sure you want the race cans as they're really loud?', I replied 'Ron, I had a Tuono with it's 1000cc Vtwin motor and full Akro race exhaust on so I don't think loud is a problem'. Well I had to eat my words, my g*d these pipes are loud and sound fantastic. Even on the overrun cars were pulling out of my way about 200 yards ahead of me lol. I love them and would buy a bike purely for the sound these exhausts make :tour: :tour:

One option these delkevic exhaust open up is the ability to just by the mid pipe for the 6th gen as delkevic sells them separately (or at least they sold me a 4th gen midpipe separately) and then purchase your choice of 2 aftermarket mufflers that have a similar mounting system and you're off to the "awesome sound races". I'm not sure on muffler connection diameters for all companies but I did a similar thing for my 4th gen with a two brothers muffler and the mid pipe diameters were the same for two brothers and delkevic in my case. Though two brothers has a different attachment system... but that's another story. Why would you do this you ask? Well... if you don't like the looks of the delkevic mufflers you can probably find a good deal on used or even new mufflers on ebay :)

Those look fantastic!! Any chance of a video?
#23
Doug there is plenty of room for the rack to bolt on without fouling the exhaust :)
#24
Hey Jonnyboy, thanks for those pics, the look great!
I ended up going for the stainless steel "round" ones which I think are even louder than yours (if at all possible) but with the difference being you can get a baffle for them (which I did) to quiet them down a bit.
Anyway, can't wait for them to arrive! They have been sitting at San Francisco Airport for a couple of days so hopefully will have them with me sometime this week.
I don't have bags on my viffer but if I did I wouldn't think there would be a clearance problem, if anything these pipes look smaller than the stock ones.

looks very niceeeee, how difficult was instalation, any fabrication needed or is it straight swap?
#26
They're a straight swap and to be honest getting the old cans off took five times longer than installing the new ones. Everything went on really easily and I lined the components up before tightening all the clamps. All in all putting the new system on took less than an hour. Taking the old one off however depends if your nuts have ceased ooeerr ;)

Box arrived this morning (took exactly a week to get delivered from the USA to Australia!!!) so I spent a few hours getting them on and OMG! what a difference...
They sound AMAZING, specially with the baffles out. Actually, I don't think the baffles are right and couldn't get them installed properly so left them out. I'm awaiting on Delkevic's response to understand how to mount them.
Here are some pics (video with sound at the end).

oh jesus, those sound mean!

Indeed!
Went on my normal commute this morning and was almost embarrassed by how beautiful (and loud) the sound is.
Got a reply from Delkevic on how to install the baffles so may try that tonight, but I was thinking about leaving them with the baffles out until I get any complaints (or fines) and only then put them on.
#30
Nice job. I'm at work, so I can't see the video, but I would like to see it with the cowling back on. Without it, they look HUGE to me. In reality they may be about the same diameter as my Erion Racing cans, but I can't tell.

Here in the US, you are probably aware, we are fighting an uphill battle with the general public that is sick and tired of obnoxiously loud exhausts from mostly the HD type crowd. I for one like the throaty, V4 rumble from my Erions, but would be against anything louder. If we don't police ourselves here in the US, our choice for any aftermarket exhaust will be taken away...

So I guess what I'm saying is that if you fear you may be offending your neighbors, then they are probably too loud. My opinion only of course.

I guess you are right.
The thing is, they sound really loud when on the bike, but walk away 2 or 3 steps and they don't sound that loud.
Anyway, I'm going to put the baffles on soon the "proper" way (drilling a small hole at the bottom of the end of can (on the slash cut end) and see how they sound that way as I haven't tested it yet, then I'll make the decision. Also, by installing them that way, is as easy as just removing one screw to get them off so I could have the baffle on for commuting and remove them fro weekend rides in just a minute.

By the way, those Erion's look pretty nice!!!
#32
Thanks. They are getting a little on the worn side. Would be nice to have some new ones like yours.

Nice that you can install and remove the baffles so easily.
#33
Good Lord, that sounds excellent!
#34
Wow, awesome sound. I like the look and silence of stock cans so that the cops keep of my back, but just for the purpose of getting good videos I would like to try these exhaust. But riding season almost over for us here in Ohio :(
#35
Those sound great, but I'd love to hear them with the baffles in as I expect that's pretty DAMN loud. Nice write up, thanks!
#36
Ok guys, even though it was late and getting dark I have now put the baffles on!
The Delkevic chap told me to drill a hole on the bottom of the exhaust tip and screw the baffle there.
Only issue I had was that there are two layers of metal and the screw for the baffle is not long enough to get through both so what I end up doing is drilling the first hole bigger to fit the whole screw (including the head). Better explained with the following pictures (and video is at the end):

Awesome! Great job making it work. Is you riding season about to start?

Than you. The stock sound was one of the few things that I didn't like in VFR but that is now fixed...
I ride all year long but we are now on the middle of spring so I guess you could say our riding season has started!

#39
That seem odd that they would make you drill the holes to mount the DB killers. Seems like something they should be doing at the factory.
#40
I'd agree. For the model I bought the baffles go in the link pipe end as opposed to the business end!!! I don't suppose it matters as long as they do their job
#41
Thanks for the follow up....I'm also a little flummoxed by them having the customer drill a hole like that, I'd expect a factory mounting (indeed I'd think they'd ship with the baffles in and give the user the option to easily remove them). Still, a minor issue. Those V4s do sound nice.
#42
I guess the reason why they make the customer drill the holes is that the exhaust come with no baffles, the baffles were and extra $10 each and I can see how some customers wouldn't use or want them.
Not too fussed abut having to drill the hole in there as it's the bottom of the can but I'm intrigued by Jonnyboy comments.
You are satying that the baffle on your Delkevics go on the pipe end? Can you explain a bit more how the are actually attached? Are the baffles the same as mine?
#43
Hi, no mine are purely race cans the same as yours. Speaking to the Delkevic supplier though he said that had I gone for the road legal version the baffles would go in at the link pipe end. I guess this isn't an option with the race pipes and so you have to put them where you can!!
#44
An update:

Spoke to Delkevic after installing the baffles and told them that I thought something was amiss as it didn't seem right that I have to drill a hole myself and even after doing that and installing them the way the suggested it was still too loud and the baffles didn't seem to quieten the noise much if at all.
They then admitted that the baffles they sent me were a new design meant to be installed differently, but since I had already drilled the holes I shouldn't take them out. Instead they offer to ship new mufflers with the baffles pre-installed by them for free, all I needed was to send them back the current ones.
I took them out and put back the stock exhaust (if I found the sound bad before now is awful after having had the Delkevics for a couple of weeks) and sent them back to them on Saturday ($85 for postage from AUS to USA!) and them informed them about it and asked when would they send the new ones. To my surprise they had already send them last week and after checking the UPS site it appears they are with the courier in Sydney already!
I'll update the post with the new exhaust once I fit them later this week but just wanted to highlight the great customer service offered by this guys, will definitely keep them on my list of preferred suppliers from now on.
#45
wow, that seems like some fantastic customer service. I will definitely be ordering from them in the future
#46
I bought a stainless 16" for my 5th gen. I am very impressed with it especially for the low price. Sounds loud enough with the extra baffle in. Materials and welds all look great. Finish and craftsmanship is not as high grade like Staintune or Akropovich but I only paid $160. I would recommend them to anyone who needs to compromise on price. They are a great value.

Always great to hear of a company providing excellent customer service like that...
#49
For those of you still following...
The replacement cans arrived today! I was already impressed with Delkevic's delivery time first time around but they beat themselves this time and the package got to Sydney from Colorado in less than a week.

As you can see form the pictures, Delkevic has done some work on the pipes to be able to add and remove the baffles easily rather than having to have the costumer drill the holes.
They have drill a hole on the pipe-end of the muffler and welded a threaded nut in it where you can screw the baffle in.
They have also modified the internals of the muffler (can't really see on the photos) in that the metal mesh fills is bit bent inward to "hold" the baffle in place.

I have also included a video at tend for you to hear the new cans.

They are still loud but not the point of being annoying or wake up the neighbours in the morning.

One think I have noticed since I put back the stocker for the last few days s that the bike tends to use more fuel on the stock exhaust than on the more freely breathing Delkevic's, I thought it should be the opposite but I got a lot better mileage on the Delkevic's than on the stock, go figure...
Any way, here are some pics and the video:

Hi

I've got the shorty carbon Delkevic cans on my 2010 VFR and they are great.

Put the DB killers in from the start as what I'd read everyone said thay were too loud for street use without them.

I've done about 6000km with them on and have had no issues with cops or quality of the product.

Great value for money from where I sit.

I'm waiting on a set of Motad headers now to complete the exhaust and them off to the dyno.

Cheers

Phil

Edit to this post. 26th January 2013

I received the Motad headers and after fitting the overall sound level went up with the combination of both to a point where I didn't feel happy with the loudness.

I've replaced the Delkevic's with a LeoVince CF system and cannot be happier.

With the DB killers in, as supplied, they are not much louder than the stock pipes but with a much deeper growl.

Without the killers thay are nowhere near as loud as the Delkevic's and are much richer in sound quality.

Cheers

Phil

#51

Sounds great and I like the color of the bike.

#53

The most important thing to remember is Delkevic are budget exhausts so not much R&D has been made to suit every bike.

They have a good reputation here in the UK, one of the last budget exhaust manufacturers left. The silencer build quality is good, however some of the link pipe welds (model specific) have been a little flimsy.

#54

Definitely interested.  I see they have 8" and 9".  Hard to say which one would look better, seems like not a huge difference - is it even noticeable?  Gotta pick me up a set of these...

#55
personally the shorty cans on the VTEC look a bit skimpy. There's still a lot of hole there in front of the cans.

So I'd go with the longer option for sure, but to each his own.

Also, the 9" are Oval w/ Slash Cut, and the MINI 8" is Round w/ large opening... But I tend to agree the short ones may be TOO short...

I also wish the Ovals were 90 degrees shifted as well, instead of up and down.

#57

So do these clear the stock hard bag mounts?

Can  not  find   any  info    good  question !!

#58
Well I don't have the bag mounts. But they take up less room than the stock exhaust, so I presume it would fit.
#59

Sounds  good  for  baggers   ...

#60
Hmm. I'd like to h ave a little rumble.
#61

I pulled the trigger on getting the Delkevics.  Just went with the stainless steel 9".  I am happy with the product for the price.  Fit and finish is good.  It was tuff installing them with the CW fender eliminator installed, but I got it done.  So 2 thumbs up for a good exhaust system

Something peculiar ive noticed ( Ive got microns on mine)I get warm air from the left & cool air on right when 1st started yours/any1 else's the same?
#64

Are you sure about that , looks like Delkevic moms is lying across the back window!!!!!!

#65

I'll be picking up a set of Delkevic headers for a 5th gen.  Anyone have any thoughts on heat wrapping these?  I've heard that the tape actually locks in moisture, but if they're stainless, does this matter?  Looking more to protect them from road debris, reduce heat dissipation, etc.
