It's a 4th gen chassis and engine, looks like an aftermarket Gixxer race tail, front cylinders exiting out the belly exhaust, rears out the tail exhaust.

Fairings look like CBR pattern bodywork, not sure about the fuel tank.

Ohlins forks, Brembo calipers, Beringer rotors, and a Gixxer swingarm out back.

Those are my best stabs in the dark. Seb will be along soon to correct me.

Nice trackbike, totally impractical as an all-rounder, but I like it!

#3

Pretty cool lookn, considering its 4th gen based. I wonder what it weighs? Would be a great corner carver considering the 4th gen super tractable engine.

holy crap that was fast. didnt think anyone one would reply till tomorrow.

Looks like Sharskinz brand aftermarket fairings for the 600rr.

does anyone knows who bike this is? cause i have a bunch of question on how he (or she did it). sure looks sweet.

I would love to know more as well, please make sure and update this thread if you get more info! Looks like the guy is based in Europe, maybe try contacting through that magazine blog?

Hey yeah Seb, with your stash of 4th gens, you could put one of those together......

I need a motor for the 3rd frame, that one can be the track tool... still have the track glass from my F4i, wiring harness, etc... it could happen! It won't be getting Ohlins forks, carbon brakes & PVM wheels though.

Not sure about the 140 hp though... he didn't mention any engine mods.

Yeah, no way 140hp without mods. Surely different cams, revised ignition map and totally different carb jetting? Would probably mean it needs to have the tits revved of it all the time.

Which wouldn't be a BAD thing for a V4!

#10

What we needed was a VFR-R, a stripped version of the 1200 with shorter wheelbase, fully adjuable susp and 150 lbs less weight.

Something close anyway. They could still do one. :fing02:

280lbs? I call BS. 380 dry, no battery would be more like it. I did a lot to mine and got it down to 490 full wet street trim. Another 210 lbs? Yeah, right. The extra pipe work, USD front end and larger brakes actually added weight over stock or simpler mods. He did save a few pounds with the swingarm replacement and I have to assume forged magnesium wheels. More info please!

I tried the 600rr tank cover over the 4gen tank and it wasn't close. I also tried fitting the 600rr tank and it was WAY off. I kinda new that from looking at pics but I picked up a super cheap ebay tank and gave it try anyway. My guess is he had to eliminate the airbox, run individual filters (or none at all), and seriously cut down a 600rr tank to fit; 2 gals maybe.

Awesome job. :fing02: Where's my royalty payment? :fing02:

I would love to know more. I have been building a dedicated 3rd gen track bike over winter but I am not sure I would be willing to commit the big $$ for Ohins ( I went with 2000 R1 forks with Ohlins internals and Wilbers rear Shock) or loose the SSA.

A dedicated track bike will lose lots of weight but I question 280#

From VFROEM's thread -

The bike is still 'in progress'; only made dynoruns in the last 7 years.

Still have to make the first ride on the tarmac....

But it will be quicker than a regular VFR750F 90-93 bike:

1.34 HP/KG vs 2.67 HP/KG

So, 280, not likely.

So, 280, not likely.

Hell, the minimum weight for a MotoGP bike is 300lbs (for a twin cylinder, which there are none).

Four cylinder GP bikes are 330 Lbs minimum.

And look at how much it costs to build a bike that light!!!

I was just looking that up. The Ducati Desmo RR weights 377.0 lb dry and I doubt you could remove enough stuff on that bike to make up almost a 100#.

Honda already makes one of those: it's called the CBR 1000RR. :fing02: Well, except for the V4.

#18

I think the 750 engine is about 170lb dry, so maybe the 280lb total weight was a typo and really meant 380lbs. Still like it though, would like to see the exhaust work under the body, but looks very nice all around

#19

Well the bike is wearing slicks in the picture, there are no mirrors or lights, so it's definetly a track whore.

You mean just like Kerry's bike the VFR-R.

No way 140hp, I call bs. BUT, with all the weight savings it's worth 10-20hp. I imagine a lot of junk can come off for a track only bike. If it doesnt make the bike faster you dont need it.

#28

That's the best 4th Gen 'update' I've seen, by far - looks like a MotoGP bike.

Being in Germany, the owner may have spent a lot of money with Durbahn (sp?) so 140hp is certainly feasible, vfroem got that out of his 3rd Gen. Not so sure about the weight though...

I just saw "no engine mods". It's hard to get that kind of gain from bolt on unless your talking forced induction or nitrous. Definetly possible, it's only money.

Yes I'm here!

and the weight is 140 kg which should be est 280 lbs, it has amercian Braketech rotors (carbon/ceramic), beringers they are to heavy, body work comes all from ALFA technik in Bavaria, 43 mm Öhlins the very same as on the ducati 1098, Under the tankcover you find a 3 gallon aluminium tank, specially made for me, by Alu sauer as the linkage , I just had it on the racetrack in France, Bresse, which went fairly well I must say. it doesn't have Nitro injection. it has a Dynojet kit with 155 main jets, it's breathing trough a special made airbox, remember this is not a roadbike, I still haven't a slipper clutch which is needed, and a quickshifter and I'm hunting for more BHP, which should 155-60 when I'm finished. I did this because of Hondas lack of interest in sporting V4 for the common man, or a V5 for that matter. The rest is cloak and dagger stuff, not yet for the public

It has cost me a lot, $35000 at this moment, a road bike will tip the scale 180kgs using not ultra light parts I haven't yet calculated the price for a road bike, it will be made on orders only and your choice of components

Do you mean titanium coated pistons or actual pistons made of titanium? If the latter is the case, what advantage would a titanium piston have over a modern forged aluminum design?

I'm guessing you must have a set of custom cams and increased the engine's operating speed and/or displacement to help make the extra power -- are the power numbers you quoted at the wheel or at the crank? Do you have a dyno printout you could share?

Unless I am wrong (and the line for that forms to the left) the link shows that he stated "about my other Honda" and the link to his other Honda is a pic and description of 1987 NSR two stroke 3 cylinder. He lists the HP there as about 110 so it could be an NSR 250....

here is the link http://rides.superstreetbike.com/ride/1197234/hondarv4/1987/honda/other-honda/index.html

It's beefed up NS400R if you can recall, 3 cyl twostroke it's a project started some years back, and has paused for the last 4 years, but it will hit the track again next year

Where do you live in Germany? I live north of Trier,nd am doing something similiar to my VFR, but it isn't just a track bike. I'm also interested in what slipper clutch you're going to use,s I plan on having my motor bored out to 840cc this winter, and would like to get 125 hp at the rear wheel.

Okay. Sounds interesting. The reason I question the pistons is titanium does not dissipate heat well and tends to gall in sliding contact situations (the galling can be cured somewhat with the right coating, but this is also why it's so difficult to machine). F1 engines are still using aluminum pistons and they can turn 19k+rpms.

Looking forward to your results.

Nice work...

Will be good to read what you come up with on the slipper clutch....

Will be great to get the full download when your finished!...

I have one manufacturer in mind; SUTER in Switzerland, if more are asking the price will drop, I reccon!

HRV4,

I'm amazed at what you've achieved, can you post up more pics please? And when you hit your targets I can't wait to see what power your bike makes and what you did to get it.

What electric waterpump weighs 250g??? Mine is 900g plus 100g for the electonic controller.

Mine - nowhere near the level of yours!:

It looks ok to me, but if you are serious about losing weight, get rid if the monoswing and the tank those two things weight more than you can imagine, and the waterpump and it pumps the water around with a pressure you wouldn't believe!

small fuelpump 200gr and a lithium/ion battery to power it all, and don't need a electric controller, I just added a switch on-off on the handlebar

From VFROEM's thread -

vfroem

The bike is still 'in progress'; only made dynoruns in the last 7 years.

Still have to make the first ride on the tarmac....

But it will be quicker than a regular VFR750F 90-93 bike:

168KG vs 240KG

125HP vs 90HP

1.34 HP/KG vs 2.67 HP/KG

correction 308 lbs I used the formula 1 lb =0,5 kg

So, 280, not likely.

I just was told 140kg ain't 280lb , but 308 I don't mind it very nimble and light anyway

Do it! 840 or correct 836ccm is the perfect size, gives you a lot more torque and if increase the compression 12,3 :1 for street use, I think you would be one happy camper!

Adding some pictures of the RV4, the guy who's riding my bike is a former superbike rider in Germany H.Müller and he loved it. He praised the torque and the ridebility, passing the gixxer on the outside in the curve, catched a 916 and R1 a little later and passed them easily, and I'm not bragging!

It has a massive torque from 8000- til 11500 thats the red line for the moment, when the engine tuning is finished it will re 12500

Looks like your running a total loss system, as well as the new water pump. Should be an awesome crisp ride.

I am also very surprised the way my VFR also powers past other bigger bikes of similar era on the track! Have not tested up against the latest track 600s, the track times are not up there yet.

Are there any compromises you have had to make in the build due to cost or reliability issues ?

No compromises! it's gonna be the bike for the track! It will leave 600 's behind when I'm finished, hitting the target 155 bhp with 140 kg or less I don't think it will be a big issue.

remember HRC took 185 hp out of the RC45 engine and didn't have breakdown as far as I can recall, it's basicly the same engine.

The exhaust is a prototype in steel for testing another one in titanium is under production and will be applied when the test phase is over, the frame and engine are 1995 mod, I was thinking of fitting a VTEC with fuel injection but it wouldn't fit, maybe someone know how to adapt a injectionsystem to a 95mod engine? The rear set is for Aprillia

I am very impressed, very nice work. I'm also a fan of the 4th gen and have one I'm building up and plan to have fun with since I already have a good commuter/touring 4th gen. First I want to get it going and then start swapping out some parts for weight savings, ultimate dream of boring the pistons but that will probably have to wait until I'm rich and famous.

I'm interested in the water pump modification first, how much work was involved with this, and did you re-route the hoses? I can imagine you could save a bit of weight since you don't have to use the stock water pump position.

Edit: Just saw the water pump location in the pic. Two more questions though, is that the stock radiator, and where is the oil radiator placed?

All sounds very impressive. I was curious to see how much faster this bike would be compared to production supersport bikes. Sounds like with a decent rider it should easily hold its own against the 600's and maybe larger bikes.

I have one question. Why did you choose the 4th gen? If I was to build a VFR track bike, I would want to start with a 5th gen VFR because of the fuel injection and slightly larger engine. Then again, I don't think I would have spent nearly as much time or money as you have.

I would think the 4th gen frame would be a better choice for a sport bike. The fifth and sixth gen swing arms bolt to the engine, so the frame is really just supporting the front suspension and all the other crap bolted to it. I've heard Honda did this on purpose to give the frame some flex.

What I've been wondering lately is if a 5th gen engine could be stuffed into a CBR600RR, or SP1/SP2 chassis!

#81

Personally I am looking at fitting a 4th gen engine into a CBR900 frame. I'm making some headway and am in the middle of measuring up the CBR900 frame to see if it is possible. The CBR900 is lightweight, has sports ergonomics and suspension (esp when fitted with USD front) and can be fitted with a VFR SSS to boot. All it needs is a V4, and some RC45 bodywork and I'd have a very capable RC45 rep! Just need to squeeze some more poke out of the motor is all.

I settled for 4th gen, because it's stable, it's fairly light when remove the parts which you don't need´, and it's goodlooking !

It's a stock radiator, for the moment it will get a bigger one it's ok in europe in spring but due to the waterpump it's running cooler than normal, I have bigger radiator waiting, oil cooler was'nt needed either, oil temp in high 70 to low 80 C, in rather cool weather conditions 18 C. but everything is prepared I have big oilcooler from a BMW SS1000 which should fit easily.

It does! 4th gen you find everywhere, so parts is available at fairly decent price and modefing it is relatively easy, the swingarm linkeage needed a lot alu welding, the subframe , as you can see on the pic's the same.

I can inform you all! The RV4 is in current condition, 1,5 to 2 secs faster than gsxr 750 and RC51 on tricky track, with decent riders on , it will eat gixxers for breakfast, s1000rr for lunch and fireblades for afternoon snacks and and sit down in the evening with Aprilia RSV4 having a cigar and a brandy.

V-4 rules the track!

It's not Beringer, it's BRAKETECH it's not a Gixxer tail, it's CBR 600 carbonpiece from Alpha technik in Bayern (Bavaria), the swingarm from a R1

Hi

I was thinking along the same lines as you, but for me the easy way out was taking a vfr 750 because of the frame, which isn't heavy and modfiy for a conventional swingarm and linkeage, the monoside is far to heavy, although it looks good.

The vf1000r engine is a masterpiece of engeneering, but hard to fit in a 4th gen vfr frame. Have you checked my links? I would go for a 4th gen, my bike works perfect on two different tracklayouts, so I bet I hit right on, and I do love my bike, it looks good, it goes well and as long as it holds it grounds against bigger bikes, I'm satisfied.

If you want to go the same way as I, expect some problems on the tank, and airbox, I had my custom made.

Keep me informed if go for the vf1000r ? I would love to know

If you want to go the same way as I, expect some problems on the tank, and airbox, I had my custom made.
Keep me informed if go for the vf1000r ? I would love to know

Well, the VF1000R engine will fit in the 4th gen frame, but first pass has it too low for the swing arm. I need to move it up another inch at least, if there's room. It means shaving some off the extrerior of the engine and moving hoses, etc. Right now, I'm stopped. If I have to relocate the swingarm so the sprockets line up vertically, than I'll have to relocate the shock mount too. I'll see whats possible.

Even so, until I get the 1KR engine rebuilt for real racing spes, its only 123 or so HP. I think at least 175 would be necessary. Possible if Dave Dodge breathes on it and we FI it. VFR800 inject and plenum will probably work.

After that, its fit the carbon CBR600RR bodywork and paint Repsol. All the parts are here, just waiting for the body to be willing. When its 105F in the garage, I kinda like the indoors.

So, yes, it is possible, just not easy.

does anyone knows who bike this is? cause i have a bunch of question on how he (or she did it). sure looks sweet.

have you gotten any wiser?

holy crap i come back from the "sand box" and i missed all this? oh yes wise indeed, but not at your level. i been itching to start a project bike but i cant seem to get a good price on a 6 gen that i can tear apart. have you every thought about using a vf1000r engine?

Hi
I was thinking along the same lines as you, but for me the easy way out was taking a vfr 750 because of the frame, which isn't heavy and modfiy for a conventional swingarm and linkeage, the monoside is far to heavy, although it looks good.

Well, what I did wasn't easy either , challenges and more challenges, they are to overcome! (some pics?)

I haven't been on the track yet, to cold !!

#113

I want more info on the airbox and tank/tank cover!

#114

Technical info is just as good as track reports (almost).

Started looking into the electric water pump, but it seems like I won't really know how easy or difficult it is until I start doing it.

Yes, we want to know every last detail of your bike! There just aren't enough VFR track bikes out there at the level of yours to drool over. Very inspiring for the guys who are building their own!

^+1. Lets get some more info, man!

I might be 3 years late and a dollar short but I'm willing to bet my "viffer" that 140 kilograms is 308 Imperial pounds. But, as the German Rocket Scientist so eloquently stated, "est.". lmfao at all the hatin' bs callers. They should have to eat Bull Shit for calling BS and being wrong. IMHO lol

NSR500?!!!!! Saw a pic of you sitting on one didn't I HondaRV4? WOW, where are my socks?

#120

I love this bike!!!!

I want to build a 5th gen version so bad I can taste it....

#121

Whatever happened to this old project? Seems like it went cold a few years ago, and was the stuff of (V4) dreams...
